It's a pity how much hate Wild Life gets from critics and fans alike. I Am Your Singer and Tomorrow really shine through as the best songs. But this one! It really shows that Paul was trying to be the bigger man in the feud between John and himself.
I could care less what they say about the album. Its up to the listener. I myself LOVE the album. I bought the album blind back in 1971. I was still in high school. When I say _"I bought the album blind"_ means I didnt hear any of the songs on the album when I bought it. But that was the same with "Band on the Run" with RAM, I did hear "Uncle Albert" but me, being a huge Beatles fan. I don't have to hear the records beforehand. When the albums get released to music stores...I buy! Ahhhhhh those were the days.
At the end of 1969, John came very politely and told us that it was all over. At the time, some of us were present in the Apple meeting room. I think George was visiting family, and Ringo and I were there, but John said “no” to any and all suggestions. I thought we should go back to playing smaller shows, but the answer came: “No”. Finally, John said: “You know, I have something to tell you: I'm leaving the Beatles.” We were all shocked I really tried. I was kind of responding to him here, asking, “Does it have to be this painful?” I think this is a good line: “Are you afraid, or is it true?” In other words: “Why is this discussion happening? Is it because you are afraid of something? Are you afraid of separation? Are you afraid that I will do something without you? Are you afraid of the consequences of your actions?” And the part “Or is it true?”: Are all these harmful allegations true? This song came from that kind of spirit. Could it be called What the Fuck, Man?” (“What the fuck, man?”), but I don’t know if we would have gotten away with it then. Did the three of us - George, Ringo and I - think about continuing without John? I don't think so. We were a unit, a quartet. We even joked about forming a group called “The Threetles”, but we didn’t think about it seriously. It was never more than a joke
