He really gave blue collar americans and veterans a staple place in american culture through the movie which is what we are not doing today thank you sir for contribution
One of the great performances of the 1980's- he was so forceful in "Full Metal Jacket" I was afraid to laugh at his funny ab-libs for fear he'd turn to the audience and start yelling at me.
Agreed, he was fantastic. I remember seeing it on opening night and it was sold out. His first scene got some of the biggest laughs I've ever heard in a movie theater. Such funny, vulgar dialogue perfectly delivered by Ermey.
I'll tell you all right now, the barracks boot camp scene's are/or look exactly like US Navy barrack's at Great Lakes, Il, bootcamp before it got torn down. The same three story buildings, the same sound inflection, the same bunks.
Watch the Archive interview with Slim Pickens as well. He and Gunny were the genuine articles in a profession that at least today likely wouldn't know what to do with them.
One of a hell of a guy , he really nailed the role of sergeant Hartman . But specially in Texas chainsaw massacre he stole the show he terrifies me as sheriff Hoyt
Yes! Just ignore them. I could have listened to another hour of this minimum. Only thing wrong with this is it was too short. Excellent interview that lady knows how to ask a question and then listen.
This is absolutely incredible. A real interview. No crass interviewer "comedian" interrupting every 2 seconds.
Quality dialogue.
Yes, classic calm 80's interview just before boomers were about taking over running society.
it was the eighties, when whites were still majority in unted states
@@Nick-xi8ex What does the racial majority have to do with interviews?
Jim Norton sucks
When things were still real.
Love Ermey… this is a great interview. I’ve never seen him so calm and level headed. A great man and true patriot. I miss him
It's hilarious because he could act as the mean sucker he said he was but you really could tell outside of that he was a really nice guy. RIP Gunny.
What a gem of a find this interview is.
Was such a brilliant actor and person. He was one of my all time favorite actors. RIP.
It's crazy to see how calm & professional he is. R.I.P.
Met him once at quantico, va. Very down to earth and personal.
He really gave blue collar americans and veterans a staple place in american culture through the movie which is what we are not doing today thank you sir for contribution
The one thing greater than a Bobbie Wygant interview is the person who thought to create her archive.
Academy awards were reserved for the club members, not the masterpiece performance of this gentleman. RIP Gunnery Sergeant Hartman.
No its because a similar role had already won an Oscar 5 years earlier.... a pity bexause both Ermey and Gossett Jr were briliant.
@@sdkelmaruecan2907 There's no comparison, performance-wise
"If God wanted you up there, He would have miracled your ass up there by Now!" I still hear lines from FMJ. Thank you, it was great!
One of the great performances of the 1980's- he was so forceful in "Full Metal Jacket" I was afraid to laugh at his funny ab-libs for fear he'd turn to the audience and start yelling at me.
Great interview. Rest in peace gunny!
Very humble and softly spoken and possibly the most brilliant actor of all time.....as he says, being a DI is acting a role
R Lee Ermey achieved more than Oscar, he lives forever through his incredibly realistic acting! Thx for sharing this interview👍
He made that movie ,he was that movie ,.Brilliant
Once a marine always a marine rest in peace brother semper fi
For a cinematic intimidating personality he is very much a calm and sensitive soul.
Ooooooohhh, he's just idling, but I definitely wouldn't set him off! He's like the psycho version of Andy Taylor! 😂 😲 😣
Crazy to think of how many Vietnam era movies that RLE helped shape based on his own experiences and advice to the films
The man is the Gold Standard
Wow.. he’s so young. 😊😊😊😊❤❤
What a fantastic interview !
Wow
Loved him Se7en too.
Great life story. FMJ was a great film in large part to his chilling performance. He also had a nice small part in "Leaving Las Vegas."
Agreed, he was fantastic. I remember seeing it on opening night and it was sold out. His first scene got some of the biggest laughs I've ever heard in a movie theater. Such funny, vulgar dialogue perfectly delivered by Ermey.
I loved his part in seven. Great movie
Make sure you check out Lee as a drill instructor in The Boys in Company C (1978).
What a legend 👍👍👍
Gunny should have won 15 Oscars for that performance!
It's criminal that this man didn't even get a nomination for his role in FMJ.
Such an underrated performance and an incredible actor he was.
I graduated from the island in 01 his voice still sends chills down my spine
Его киношный образ останется в истории.
What a brilliant interviewee he is , quite surprising
i'm not suprised.
A very thoughtful and intelligent man. And a brilliant performance in Full Metal Jacket.
When interviews could take longer than 2 minutes
And they weren’t interrupted every second.
yep, should've been nominated. if not won.
Unforgettable work- I'm sure Sgt. Hartman would have plenty to say to the Academy about his being overlooked.
invaluable asset
His hands are huge. Private Jokers head is still ringing. Pile couldn't handle ringing anymore....
He really was a fantastic actor.
one of the greatest performances EVER
Oohrah! Rest In Peace Gunny, you are missed.
Awesome man
I didn't know R Lee Ermey died terrible very funny actor this guy
What?
@@TheBundleofkent He passed away in 2018
In 2030 this interview will be as old as Lee Ermy was when it was filmed: 43 years. 😬
20 years ago was 10 years ago + 10 (mind-blowing)
In 2024 this interview will be /is 37 years old which is 6 years less than Lee's age during this interview.
Great interview 👍
R Lee. 👍
Right man for role 👏 stole the show 😊
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Semper Fi...it must be hard for him ring up bad memories of Vietnam. Most vet, never talk about the war.
Isn't it such a contrast how soft spoken he is compared to the Drill Sgt?
Video starts ar 0:42
The fkin war will be over by the time we get there wont it Pyle!
👍
Bill McKinney was originally supposed to play the role of the drill sergeant.
Honestly it sounds like he should have gotten credit as a co-screenwriter.
If only Stg. Hartman had been this gentle with Pvt. Pyle, things would've been different.
Looks like Nick Saban
I just realized, R Lee Ermey kinda looks like Tony Hancock!
And Moe Howard of the 3 Stooges.
No he doesn't
Most marines are only mean when they have to be we would rather have a beer in one hand and fishing pole in other
He looks like in his delivery is like Ronald Reagan's in an interview
Samajoor
lol Lee spoils the end of the first act of the film

I really liked him in the Texas chainsaw massacre
