".. I learned softness from him..." The supervisor had to be a good role model because softness is exactly what I love about Bob. Even his voice sounds so soft and gentle, I could listen to him for hours no matter what he's talking about. It's very healing for me to listen to a man being this way. Thank you for being you, Bob!

I appreciate you guys talking about sexism in the workplace among professors. I am studying to be a college professor and I'm currently teaching two classes, it's extremely prevalent. Some male students treat me like my statements don't matter, but when the male professor comes up to say the same thing, it's a completely different story. It's so obvious and frustrating. I've dealt with so much sexism in the workplace and even in school, it's hurtful. At times, I wish I was a man so I would be automatically respected. My male peers/colleagues/bosses will overtly bully me, but I know they wouldn't dare do that to another man. I feel like our society hasn't progressed at all at times.

Yeah it's not really fair. It can be counterproductive when you try to even talk back, a lot like to think they're always right

I’m currently a college student. What happens if you call them out saying I feel like y’all aren’t listening to me? I’m a woman also and not being taken seriously irritated me.

@@jagmaster6595 in my experience the more you try to overcome it the more you are regarded with a negative connotation. My boss whom I admire is one of the few female bosses and the men definitely treat her as if she's emotional, bitchy, has problems with others, etc. And my perception of her is not that at all. It's a catch 22 situation most of the time.

@@jagmaster6595 they still don't listen. also the microaggressions can be subtle (but still hurtful) and if you say something, they will make it seem like you're being a "bitch". it's hard to change everyone's mind, including peers and especially a whole classroom. i feel like i have to be stern to gain respect, but when I do that i'm treated like i'm a bitch. it's a double edge sword. you feel me?

I read this title as, "Shut down [your] husband, abusive bosses, and harmful therapy!" And thought for a second it was going to be a how-to 🤣

The "why don't you just quit" argument also fails to recognize that regardless of employer the general contradiction between administration/bosses and labor will still exit.

In high school after committing myself, I had a "blank slate" therapist. I ended up having what my current therapist describes as an obsessional fixation on the idea that she was an automaton made by pfizer and kaiser permanente to keep me on prozac. I knew it was a crazy thing that wasn't real, and simultaneously couldn't stop feeling like it was true. I even struggled with the impulse to harm her to prove to myself she was real, I never harmed her. It still feels weird that this is a thing I can admit now.

What is toxic masculinity and where is the line drawn between toxic and healthy masculinity?
