i hated the new tower because of theme. It looks fits to walk into a 1930 themed Hollywood and to see a 1930s style hotel overhead. Now all you see is a colorful arrangement of pipes that ruins the atmosphere of California Adventure
General Tophat They changed it so It would fit in to marvel land when it opens. Also, the dca theme is very slowly dying park-wide. They’re shifting it from California to movie themed.
I agree with @General Tophat, the Tower of Terror had a much better appearance that produced a glittering array of outstanding Pueblo Deco that also was ghostly and forbidding at the exact same time. Nonetheless, it was a great addition to California Adventure but yet the ride was spoiled by this "colorful arrangement of pipes" and all sorts of nonsense that make it look as if it was a Sci fi art museum rather than an amusement ride.
I think Tower was less of a weenie than mission breakout. It didn't catch your eye as much, but mission breakout is unavoidable. As much as I loved tower, for me it was a one and done (at least the DCA version) but mission breakout as a ride, I could ride all day

I have to disagree. There's nothing the same about the rides. Everything about tower of terror was perfect. The theming , the story , everything clicked together. This new guardians of the galaxy .... idk. It just for some reason, feels unfinished . Inside out . I kinda feel like , this is it?.... To be really fair, I like the GOTG movie series. But for some reason, I still seem to think that Mission Breakout is the tower of terror. The architechture is just off. + I like me some horror

I'm not gonna lie, I think that a guardians ride and marvel universe should be at DCA, but tower of terror was the second or most iconic ride at the park, especiallly because it's Hollywood themed, and California. They should have just built an original ride where bugs land is and the land behind tower of terror for the land. As well seeing tower of terror across the park fit in great, now it looks like it should be in a different park. And lastly the elevator dropping makes way more sense than guardians. But I still understand the change, shame it had to tower of terror

The Gantry Lift is used to get around the collection, like a spaceship elevator... how does that not make sense? The collection is so huge any other way of transportation wouldn't be practical If anything the Tower of Terror makes less sense, why does a elevator have seats and seatbelts?

DisneylandDreams Server but for a ride, 1 minute changes everything. Think about a rollercoaster. The average length of a coaster from the lift to the brakes is 1 minute. If you add another minute, the ride is 2x longer than it was before.
So for me, I only rode Tower of Terror once and that was 12 years ago when I was 6 years old and I never rode it again because the ride scared me and those drops were the most horrifying thing I ever experienced. I never had the strength to ever try riding Tower of Terror again. I was at DCA yesterday for grad nite, and since I love Guardians of the Galaxy, I went on Mission Breakout and enjoyed it so much more than Tower of Terror. The drops felt the same, but not as horrifying. To me, the fact that Mission Breakout is Guardians of the Galaxy helped me enjoy the ride and not feel as terrified as I did when I rode ToT. The song I got was Give Up the Funk, which also helped it feel less terrifying for me. Basically, this ride felt more fun because it lacks the scary theme that made me forever scared to ride the Tower of Terror. Sorry if my review sounds biased, but I say Mission Breakout is better. I'm definitely gonna ride it again next time I'm there
i went to tower of terror for the first time when i was 9 or 8 i had nightmares for weeks and never came back till yesterday i said to myself: you know what i was young maybe i got over it now... i was wrong but i enjoyed it more

Uh no tower is really boring you get the same drop Profile every single time but guardians the theming is better it’s more thrilling you get different songs and tower of terror was really lame so I think guardians is 100 x better

Mission Breakout is just an MCU (not Marvel cause it's not really based from the comics) drop tower fun ride. Tower of Terror is so much more than just another drop tower ride and has more dimension to its backstory and lore and making you feel more than just thrills, something Mission Breakout will never have even though it has randomized drops, which certainly is why you and bunch of others find Mission Breakout is better, just cause it has randomized drops. Shows all the more how messed up Mission Breakout is because of that + everyone's too busy simping bout the MCU

Honestly, IDK which is better cuz they are 2 different experiences. I love both, they are both my fav rides throughout the park, its something i can over and over again and it never gets old. So idk which is better!

I was just as against the switch as you were! I checked in on the very last day of checking in at the ToT party on January 2 and the whole shabang. I went on Guardians 3 days after it opened and I am absolutely impressed with what Disney did to the ride and I could not be happier. I love the video keep it up
In my opinion Tower of Terror is better because when you look at it at first sight you understand that something creepy happened there and when you see the Pre-show you know the tower will never be the same and that the lightning made the at first glamorous hotel into a creepy old abandoned tower
Coming from the perspective of someone with a 9 year old boy. First time I took my son to Disneyland he was 2; right before they made the switch. We usually go 1-2 times per year. Once he was tall enough to ride it, me, and his mom made the mistake of lying to him that it wasn’t a thrill ride. My son being the very observant kid he is caught on and kept asking us if we were sure it wasn’t a thrill ride. Us, knowing he would love the ride, continued to assure him it wasn’t. We made it all the way to boarding. That’s when our son 6 at the time asked the cast member what the ride does. Lol. So he tell him, and our son freaks out. We had to leave. Spent the rest of the 5 day trip trying to convince him. Could not convince him no matter how hard we tried that trip, and the next 4 trips after. Moral of that is don’t ever lie to your kids about a ride because he would have gotten on a lot sooner if we didn’t betray his trust. Finally we went for a week Christmas 2022, just turned 9. He was finally ready to get on. He was scared, but once the music kicked on, he was absolutely loving all of it. We had the Born to Be Wild version fist. My sons absolutely adores Guardians of The Galaxy. It’s a very upbeat, high energy vibe the whole time, which makes it awesome. I doubt the TOT can get that out of my son. So as a father, being able to enjoy the ride with my son, watching him absolutely going crazy to the music and screaming to the ride just makes my day. So therefore TOT can never compare in my eyes. I will say before Guardians was there the TOT was my favorite ride at the park. This Christmas we are going to WDW for 2 weeks. He will finally get to try TOT. Knowing my son he’s not going to like it as much, but we will see. The delayed drop times though is spot on.
ToT actually had different drop profiles during its last year of operation. I loved and will miss ToT BUT, GotG is so much more fun and intense! If you got queasy on ToT, don't ride GotG! It's much more thrilling!!!
Dylan N I've experienced different profiles. I say this because I went on ToT consecutively multiple times and sometimes it went up instead of dropping after the elevator scene. I also recall long drops on some rides and other times there were a series of short drops.
Dan Nisnisan I don’t think the tower of terror drop sequence changed. Maybe you were on the Florida tower of terror? All I know is that the (dca version) acceleration was quicker towards the end of its lifespan. The speed was the same, but it reached that speed quicker, so you got more airtime.

the Tower of Terror may be better according to you, but the Guardians of the Galaxy is better according to Disney, here's the proof : When the GotG:MB in California was announced, it meet some controversy, but when it opened, things gets better, at first, there was still some controversy, but overtime, as more and more people rides it, that controversy will fade and fade, until it will not be significant, as of result, the GotG:MB in California has some success, and with that, Disney has plans to replace the ToT with the GotG:MB in Paris, this time, while it still meet some controversy like the one in California, it has less controversy than in California, so, if you want to ride the Tower of Terror in Paris, do it sooner rather than later, as if you do it later, the ToT will be replaced with the GotG:MB, and you no longer have the chance to ride the Tower of Terror in Paris.
Uh, 11:38 TOT didn't always have the same sequence. Sometimes you would get a false ending, where you would think it was over, but you got one more drop.

I’ve never ridden ToT, because when it was still there I was only about 6 and was (and still am) terrified of both elevators and ghosts. So, 6 year old me looked at it and immediately said nope. However, I felt Guardians Of The Galaxy, was very cheery and didn’t give me an elevator vibe as much as ToT did. Plus, it has really upbeat music that calms me down. I watched a video of ToT and was so confused and had NO idea what the storyline was. It made zero sense to me. All I could see was one minute there were ghosts then BAM, stars (?) then a book (?) then it shattered (?) still confused- (please explain) All in all my opinion doesn’t matter, you do you boo. If you think ToT was better that’s okay I just personally think GOTG was much more welcoming, thrilling, and had a storyline that the majority of people would understand. So yeah, if you liked ToT better then good for you. My opinion is biased anyway, considering one of my favorite movies is Guardians Of The Galaxy...
It makes me very upset because Guardians of the Galaxy is one of my favourite movies of all time, yet I am less than impressed of the results of Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout. I may also be a bit biased because Tower of Terror was my favourite ride at the park (next to Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Forbidden Eye), but I just feel like they executed it wrong and they barely had a reason to change the classic attraction.
i hated it at first announcement, went through my 5 stages of grief, and then i saw videos. i love it! i haven't got to ride it yet because i love in seattle and i'm broke, but as soon as i am able i will go down to ride it
Update: I have ridden it now. It's my favorite ride in all of DCA. almost no other ride has me checking the wait time every time I get off to see if the line is short enough to go again!
Hands down tower of terror is the best the theme is better it has more drops. Also they are already making a guardians of the galaxy hotel at Disney world in 2019 so it's bullshit that they changed it
Nostalgia can be a terrible thing. Rose tinted glasses can prevent you from enjoying the now because one is too busy desperately clinging to the past. The Tower Of Terror was great but so is Guardians Of The Galaxy. You don't have to like it, but you cannot deny that it has become a huge success using one of the most popular and relevant properties today.
If you like one or the other that's fine, it's your opinion. However, there are a few things I don't think are opinionated. For example, the story makes more sense in Mission Breakout. In Tower of terror, you go into an abandoned hotel, you go in an elevator and go up and down, then you leave. In Mission Breakout, you are part of an escape plan, which you actually help with (by the hand scanning.). You complete your mission then you leave. Also, in the new ride, the technology is undoubtedly better. The preshow, instead of being just a movie like in Tower of Terror, has an animatronic. The ride sequence is random, as well as the elements and the song. Personally, I think the new iteration is better. If you hate it but you haven't even ridden it yet, you're opinion is probably warped.
As an avid WDW goer, I’ve been on TOT more times than I can count and although a fantastic ride, I love Guardians way more and how quickly you get into the drops versus the long drawn out story of Hollywood Hotel 😂
I was sad to hear Tower of Terror closed when I was stationed elsewhere. I’m back in Cali now though and excited to go this summer. I love MCU, so I was super happy they didn’t: 1. Do away with the ride completely. 2. Make it a theme I didn’t like.
And for those that say it ruins the atmosphere, expect a Marvel land in your future.

It’s hard to tell usually. I think guardians of the galaxy is the second best ride in Disneyland because, the Tower goes up and down six times, classic rock makes you want more, you get 6 rounds of screaming, with more graphics and puppets . Tower of terror is just original, I wanna feel so Thrilled if I went on that
I’ve only done Guardians and I can’t imagine Twilight Zone was better. Guardians is my favorite movie. I liked the music. I liked the pre-show. I like the fun vibe. I don’t think I would’ve liked it as much with the creepier theming.
For everyone complaining that the Tower of Terror is gone forever, I'm pretty sure the one at Disney's Hollywood studios is still operating. So it's not a total loss.
I legit wish they didn’t replace Tower Of Terror with “that.” I’m still pretty mad about that cause I never got to ride the California version of Tower Of Terror.
I understand that ToT was based on a show that younger generation of kids no longer remember, and Guardians of the Galaxy is "the new thing", kinda. So, i guess they were looking to reach kids' hearts?? Or to make them feel closer to the story and understand it better?
Why does it matter which is better? I mean, of course, there's going to be debate, but it doesn't matter. They're not going to change it back, so why make a fuss?

Saw that lots of the people in the comments rode it when they were about 6ish probably would have been better if they were around the age of 10 to try it again. I was in a similar place of being freaked out but tried it again 2 about years later (9ish) absolutely loved it. Personally sad it's gone I always thought it especially belonged in California because it was Hollywood based and was a good pair with haunted mansion. Still waiting to get to go to the guardians version but not super high hopes from what I saw in the vid probably because I'm not a huge fan of guardians and I hate the screen stuff that's been going into rides like at universal. The actors in the ToT were also really cool and I'm obsessed with old looking stuff and their costumes were so cool

I love the twilight zone, and the TOT was literally my childhood. I loved the theme of the ride it was so cool! So sad they replaced it. I actually hated the guardians of the galaxy movie lol, but the ride looks alright.
I think Gardiains of the Galaxy because there is more up and downs and in Tower of Tewor just not alot of up and downs and I love Roller coasters,thing that get me scared

Tower of terror is kinda boring when you ride it, but the theme is spooky and curious. Mission breakout was great. Including monsters after dark

ToT in Orlando Hollywood studios has had a computer controlled random drop sequence for ages. No ride on it is ever the same 🙂

Uh no tower is really boring you get the same drop Profile every single time but guardians the theming is better it’s more thrilling you get different songs and tower of terror was really lame so I think guardians is 100 x better

Sure I mean no one cares and appreciates why attractions are timeless and classics as well as how well it blends in the world theming of the park.
Mission Breakout is just an MCU (not Marvel cause it's not really based from the comics) drop tower fun ride.
Tower of Terror is so much more than just another drop tower ride and has more dimension to its backstory and lore and making you feel more than just thrills, something Mission Breakout will never have even though it has randomized drops, which certainly is why you and bunch of others find Mission Breakout is better, just cause it has randomized drops.
Shows all the more how messed up Mission Breakout is because of that + everyone's too busy simping bout the MCU

I was just as against the switch as you were! I checked in on the very last day of checking in at the ToT party on January 2 and the whole shabang. I went on Guardians 3 days after it opened and I am absolutely impressed with what Disney did to the ride and I could not be happier. I love the video keep it up

In my opinion Tower of Terror is better because when you look at it at first sight you understand that something creepy happened there and when you see the Pre-show you know the tower will never be the same and that the lightning made the at first glamorous hotel into a creepy old abandoned tower
Coming from the perspective of someone with a 9 year old boy. First time I took my son to Disneyland he was 2; right before they made the switch. We usually go 1-2 times per year. Once he was tall enough to ride it, me, and his mom made the mistake of lying to him that it wasn’t a thrill ride. My son being the very observant kid he is caught on and kept asking us if we were sure it wasn’t a thrill ride. Us, knowing he would love the ride, continued to assure him it wasn’t. We made it all the way to boarding. That’s when our son 6 at the time asked the cast member what the ride does. Lol. So he tell him, and our son freaks out. We had to leave. Spent the rest of the 5 day trip trying to convince him. Could not convince him no matter how hard we tried that trip, and the next 4 trips after. Moral of that is don’t ever lie to your kids about a ride because he would have gotten on a lot sooner if we didn’t betray his trust.
Finally we went for a week Christmas 2022, just turned 9. He was finally ready to get on. He was scared, but once the music kicked on, he was absolutely loving all of it. We had the Born to Be Wild version fist. My sons absolutely adores Guardians of The Galaxy. It’s a very upbeat, high energy vibe the whole time, which makes it awesome. I doubt the TOT can get that out of my son. So as a father, being able to enjoy the ride with my son, watching him absolutely going crazy to the music and screaming to the ride just makes my day. So therefore TOT can never compare in my eyes. I will say before Guardians was there the TOT was my favorite ride at the park.
This Christmas we are going to WDW for 2 weeks. He will finally get to try TOT. Knowing my son he’s not going to like it as much, but we will see. The delayed drop times though is spot on.

ToT actually had different drop profiles during its last year of operation. I loved and will miss ToT BUT, GotG is so much more fun and intense! If you got queasy on ToT, don't ride GotG! It's much more thrilling!!!

Dylan N I've experienced different profiles. I say this because I went on ToT consecutively multiple times and sometimes it went up instead of dropping after the elevator scene. I also recall long drops on some rides and other times there were a series of short drops.
Dan Nisnisan I don’t think the tower of terror drop sequence changed. Maybe you were on the Florida tower of terror? All I know is that the (dca version) acceleration was quicker towards the end of its lifespan. The speed was the same, but it reached that speed quicker, so you got more airtime.

When the GotG:MB in California was announced, it meet some controversy, but when it opened, things gets better, at first, there was still some controversy, but overtime, as more and more people rides it, that controversy will fade and fade, until it will not be significant, as of result, the GotG:MB in California has some success, and with that, Disney has plans to replace the ToT with the GotG:MB in Paris, this time, while it still meet some controversy like the one in California, it has less controversy than in California, so, if you want to ride the Tower of Terror in Paris, do it sooner rather than later, as if you do it later, the ToT will be replaced with the GotG:MB, and you no longer have the chance to ride the Tower of Terror in Paris.
Uh, 11:38 TOT didn't always have the same sequence. Sometimes you would get a false ending, where you would think it was over, but you got one more drop.

I’ve never ridden ToT, because when it was still there I was only about 6 and was (and still am) terrified of both elevators and ghosts. So, 6 year old me looked at it and immediately said nope. However, I felt Guardians Of The Galaxy, was very cheery and didn’t give me an elevator vibe as much as ToT did. Plus, it has really upbeat music that calms me down. I watched a video of ToT and was so confused and had NO idea what the storyline was. It made zero sense to me. All I could see was one minute there were ghosts then BAM, stars (?) then a book (?) then it shattered (?) still confused- (please explain)
All in all my opinion doesn’t matter, you do you boo. If you think ToT was better that’s okay I just personally think GOTG was much more welcoming, thrilling, and had a storyline that the majority of people would understand. So yeah, if you liked ToT better then good for you. My opinion is biased anyway, considering one of my favorite movies is Guardians Of The Galaxy...

It makes me very upset because Guardians of the Galaxy is one of my favourite movies of all time, yet I am less than impressed of the results of Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout. I may also be a bit biased because Tower of Terror was my favourite ride at the park (next to Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Forbidden Eye), but I just feel like they executed it wrong and they barely had a reason to change the classic attraction.
i hated it at first announcement, went through my 5 stages of grief, and then i saw videos. i love it! i haven't got to ride it yet because i love in seattle and i'm broke, but as soon as i am able i will go down to ride it
Update: I have ridden it now. It's my favorite ride in all of DCA. almost no other ride has me checking the wait time every time I get off to see if the line is short enough to go again!

Nostalgia can be a terrible thing. Rose tinted glasses can prevent you from enjoying the now because one is too busy desperately clinging to the past. The Tower Of Terror was great but so is Guardians Of The Galaxy. You don't have to like it, but you cannot deny that it has become a huge success using one of the most popular and relevant properties today.

If you like one or the other that's fine, it's your opinion. However, there are a few things I don't think are opinionated. For example, the story makes more sense in Mission Breakout. In Tower of terror, you go into an abandoned hotel, you go in an elevator and go up and down, then you leave. In Mission Breakout, you are part of an escape plan, which you actually help with (by the hand scanning.). You complete your mission then you leave. Also, in the new ride, the technology is undoubtedly better. The preshow, instead of being just a movie like in Tower of Terror, has an animatronic. The ride sequence is random, as well as the elements and the song. Personally, I think the new iteration is better. If you hate it but you haven't even ridden it yet, you're opinion is probably warped.
As an avid WDW goer, I’ve been on TOT more times than I can count and although a fantastic ride, I love Guardians way more and how quickly you get into the drops versus the long drawn out story of Hollywood Hotel 😂

I was sad to hear Tower of Terror closed when I was stationed elsewhere. I’m back in Cali now though and excited to go this summer. I love MCU, so I was super happy they didn’t: 1. Do away with the ride completely. 2. Make it a theme I didn’t like.

I think guardians of the galaxy is the second best ride in Disneyland because, the Tower goes up and down six times, classic rock makes you want more, you get 6 rounds of screaming, with more graphics and puppets . I’ve only done Guardians and I can’t imagine Twilight Zone was better. Guardians is my favorite movie. I liked the music. I liked the pre-show. I like the fun vibe. I don’t think I would’ve liked it as much with the creepier theming.
For everyone complaining that the Tower of Terror is gone forever, I'm pretty sure the one at Disney's Hollywood studios is still operating. So it's not a total loss.

Saw that lots of the people in the comments rode it when they were about 6ish probably would have been better if they were around the age of 10 to try it again. I was in a similar place of being freaked out but tried it again 2 about years later (9ish) absolutely loved it. Personally sad it's gone I always thought it especially belonged in California because it was Hollywood based and was a good pair with haunted mansion. Still waiting to get to go to the guardians version but not super high hopes from what I saw in the vid probably because I'm not a huge fan of guardians and I hate the screen stuff that's been going into rides like at universal. The actors in the ToT were also really cool and I'm obsessed with old looking stuff and their costumes were so cool

I love the twilight zone, and the TOT was literally my childhood. I loved the theme of the ride it was so cool! So sad they replaced it. I actually hated the guardians of the galaxy movie lol, but the ride looks alright.
