I'm glad I demo'd this guitar as this wiring scheme is a bit different than the normal two you typically see for 3 pup Gibsons!

The song sounds familiar almost like the song Spooky which was more or less a cover by Atlanta Rythm Section originally done by the Classic IV with the same guitarist in both bands. Your either reversing the last two notes or playing a different note.

Hello, back in 1975 I bought a '71 triple and turned it into a Frampton clone. The tech at the store showed me the diagram for that wiring, told me I could get "H'bucker strat" tones out of it, so I had it done. Kept it for a year and found I didn't have a use for it, so I sold it like a fool for $550 w/OHSC. Then I saw this and now I'm really kicking myself. Oh well, such is life.

I'm sure this guitar was bought by Trogly from Gibson, but is it common for the new center pickup 6:28 to have a ripped label on it's underside? It also had no shielding paint. Did they model it exactly after Peter's original and resliced it exactly while leaving the cream colored poker chip off? I'm overthinking in circles, it appears.

Treddart is correct about the weight relief. Without access to Honduran Mahogany it's the only way to get the weight ight. I don't know about yours, but mine had the Ace wiring before I had it converted to Frampton wiring. You could only get the bridge and middle pickup in the middle position. There was no way to get the bridge and neck together, which is why I had it done. But it's a '76. I guess it like you said now. But I'm thinking of adding a phase reverse to the middle knob.

My R7 Custom 3 pickup is wired with the top being the neck pickup, middle being both middle and bridge pickups and the bottom position being just the bridge pickup. Also, something I’ve never seen you comment on is the differences between guitars wired with PIO(paper in oil) caps like the bumblebees in this one vs those wired with the ceramic disk caps like the modern Customs.

As you say 3 pickup customs do have a unique sound. And this set up is the only factory wiring apart from the late 50s Switchmaster ones that allow you to get all those different combinations. Definitely this wiring (how Frampton's original was wired when he got it btw) has given Frampton his individual sound on those classic 70s recordings.

That doodle reminds me of keep on rockin’(in the free world) by Neil young. He does play a les Paul too so I can see that.

I find Custom's frets hard to play. I have 2, and both have those wider and lower frets that just feel wrong to my fingers used to taller and narrower frets.

Surprised they didn't yellow the pickup rings to match binding.

Very good point. I have always wondered why the pickup plastic rings are so white on my Phenix … haha … Gibson even tarnished the gold hardware for vintage look.

To get the right sound, you need to plug into about 20 pedals, 35 amps, and through a few Leslie speakers.

The tune sounds like "Spooky" by the Classics IV('60's) or Atlanta Rhythm Section ('70's).

I think I'd go ahead and call them on the poker chip. Other that Gibson did a great tribute or to Peter Frampton with this one.

Hey man, love the content. You’re videos are sort of my after work night cap I guess you could say. Yet I do have a suggestion. Try covering some more lesser known brands, for example, the Reverend guitar video was a good one. The guitar it’s self was interesting and the whole bass knob thing was neat and something most don’t know. I’m just tossing ideas out there, love you videos man, keep up the awesome work

you are playing a bastardized version of Spooky, definitely the right sound, Barry in ARS used a Deluxe Les Paul for that.

If anyone has any experience with the Bluesbreaker pedal, any of them actually, please let me know how it compares to the real amp in sound. I'm running into a Peavey Classic 30 or a Katana, depending on the gig, but I'd love to find that Bluesbreaker sound in a pedal. Thank you hivemind, in advance.

It sounds nothing like the amp, sorry. I was very disappointed when I first started using it, BUT, when you get over the initial hurt, you'll find that it is a great drive/OD for a warm Strat sound. It has been my favorite first drive for a lot of years. It is very nice for Rhythm with a little drive on top, and all-nighter ;-)

@@christianboddum8783 Sounds just about my speed actually. I usually think amps sound best when they're just at the point of overdriving. Thanks for the information. I appreciate you. I currently get my tone from a Wampler Plexi Drive, and that's about as close to a 'Marshall tone' as I've found. I'll have to keep looking for the real Bluesbreaker sound. Unless I someday trip over a pile of money and can buy the real thing.
I hope you have a great day.

I know there’s some historical precedence for using bumble bee caps in Gibson guitars, but I’m skeptical of the actual utility of sticking a 400V cap in a circuit that will hardly ever see anything over 1V.

It's been a long time since the last time I took ownership of a brand new electric guitar. It's better when they already are broken in. I also don't mind blemishes comment, because it's further proof that a preowned guitar has history. Not sure I would want a Peter Frampton model like this one (no fan of signature stuff), but I definitely would choose to take Trogly's advice and get a used model.
I've been so used to thinking that the middle pickup on a model like this couldn't possibly hold a candle to single coil ones. I don't mind being shown that I'm mistaken though.
