    Cool stuff, as always!
    Edit: Regarding pricing at shows like this, it seems to me that some people just bring their stuff to show it off. They mark their items up to a point that no one would pay, and I’ve noticed this phenomenon in antique shops as well.

    Those 50's Gold tops and conversions are now going for 50~70k is kinda bonkers not that long ago you could buy a good example of a 54 to 56 goldoltoo for like 20 up to 30k it is great to see that 50's era gold tops are getting more valued those are AMAZING guitars and dare i say some P-90's sounds better that PAF's

      I agree about the P90 pickups sounding great. When Gibson instructed Seth Lover to design the PAF Humbucker the goal was to have it sound exactly like the P90. They are made of the very same materials and I think they came close.
      I just purchased my first P90 equipped guitar and it has become my favorite.

I only went to one guitar show in person when I was in high school and bought my first Gibson there (1976 Les Paul Standard in tobacco sunburst) for 1200 with the chainsaw case. Hello Austin, just out of curiosity, what would you pay for a 2016 Gibson Les Paul Traditional w/hard shell case? I bought it used in December of 2015 and paid $1425 for it. It had a sunken bridge which was replaced with a "Tone Pros" tune o matic. Evidently whoever had it before me did not take very good care of it. So it got a new bridge, fret leveled and a bone nut. There's really nothing special about it except for the fact that these were fashioned after a 1958 guitar. The neck is "sort of" chunky and it fits in my hand perfectly, and I have small hands. The finish is Honey Burst and there are no breaks or repairs done to it. I know that music stores have a "pawn shop" license but I wanted to run it by you first. Unfortunately I have no photos for you, but I can guarantee this is a players grade guitar. There's a little bit of finish checking here and there as I play it a lot. This guitar was born on September the 26th of 2015 so it was just 3 months old when I got it. Anyway, your thoughts?

    • @ahoneyman
      @ahoneyman 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No breaks in the neck is a good thing. The Tone Pro bridge isn't really good or bad. The big problem would be buckle rash/worming on the back of the guitar. Off the top of my head price it at $1800 and take $1600 if local pickup. Pawn shop would throw you $1100 and price it at $1900. Depending on the shop they might price it at $2000 and let it sit there for months.

Think of it like Gibson Les Paul Standard and Gibson Les Paul Standard Custom Shops - And what we see today is people asking custom shop prices for standard guitars. But real collectors know the difference, and to these collectors too does it matter that everything is stock.

    $2799 for an ES137 classic? 🤣🤣 What an insane price, those were $1400-1600 guitars like two years ago. (I know, I had one and sold it. Took a while!)

      (Bill the photographer) Yes, Totem Paul guitars! Indian themed. I thought Trogly would get a kick out of them. I tried one out, but wasn't impressed with the feel. Probably made in China.

    might just be the fact that it’s 230 am and I’m watching this in the sauce but that plastic cover on the TTopped L5S looks like a jazzmaster style trem. That would be ridiculously fun to play if that’s actually the case.

    I don't know about these shows: you have lots of people itching to buy a guitar or two...so why would you expect to find lots of deals when the room is teeming with buyers? On the other hand, at least you get to see lots of fun guitars (and might find a project or a rarity). I just don't know why people expect to find real deals at events like these, unfortunately...

    • @zbillster
      @zbillster 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stick around the show till Sunday afternoon, and make some deals with vendors who are packing up! 😁 Most of the time when I picked up a guitar at the show, the dealer would start chopping down the price.
