Nice review thanks! Curious to try the new XE, I had one of the first ones that came out and absolutely hated the suspensions (its the only bike that gave me back pain (until then and ever since), I sold an Africa Twin to buy the 1200XE and sold it within 3 months to buy another Africa Twin, its the shortest time I've kept any bike in my life). I had the suspensions adjusted by 2-3 shops, then had it resprung, revalved, which helped but not enough to make me want to keep it. My 2015 Scrambler 900 was 10 times as comfortable. I loved the engine, the looks, the legroom, the tubeless wheels, the sound, but man o man I still don't know if it was just the first batches that had horrendous suspensions as I've heard some saying it was the best they've ever had (clearly their bike wasn't like mine), at the time I called Triumph's customer service regarding a speed sensor that was BO, and while I had him on the phone I asked if they were getting complaints about the XE's suspensions and he was quite transparent that they had indeed received quite a few complaints for the XE (on the first year model), while journalists were praising how amazing the suspensions were...The bike I bought (new), was 10 times harsher than my Ducati Monster 1100 EVO and I'd say it wasn't even more comfortable than my friends BMW S1000RR HP4...happy to see Triumph got rid of the Ohlins, at least the ones I had, were hands down the worst I've experienced on any bike (and I've tried probably over 150 bikes by now).
The 22-23 XC is the one to get, Ohlins shocks, Showa forks, Brembo brakes, cruise control, no heat issues with the cat, lower seat than the XE, which relates to lower centre of gravity off road, and for the realistic kind of riding 99% of riders will do, the XC is more than capable. I’ve owned both XE and XC, and the XC is the one I prefer, and the one in my garage. Let’s get serious, who is going to go enduro racer mode in remote areas, on your own, with a 200 kg plus motorcycle loaded up with luggage. If you really want to have fun in the dirt, buy a 110 kg enduro bike, anything else is a compromise.

That being said, despite being the best bike I can think of in terms of looks, ridability, power (for what it is), versatility and just the overall package, I’m sick of having to deal with continuous warranty claims…so…probably going to sell. Hello Africa Twin.
There are lots of short term reviews in the India market but no long term reviews in the US market which is important to us here as we tend to ride differently so reliability may also vary. But I do agree that it is quite overrated and already has known issues.
Great video! I think the X is categorically worse then then XC though. The XC has/had cruise control, Ohlns suspension and brakes, ect... Only thing it lacked is the corning abs but not sure who would take that over the other features. I understand the inch shorter is nice but I'm pretty short myself and the XC is not bad at all.
I also noticed that on the new 1200X the rear pillion pegs attachment brackets are not removable, they are permanently welded on the frame, in case of a fall and bent one, which is possible you basically damaged part of the frame. It may be not a huge deal breaker for many but to me it a step back from the previous model, Even the 900 has them removable.
Thanks, great review! I had a 900 scrambler for a while it was terrible with scraping the foot rests as soon as I turned only a tiny bit. Sounds like the new X is close to that too, even of the 900 scrambler is even more a street bike for sure.
Thanks for another informative episode of the new Triumph Scramblers. I’ve chosen the XE, and should take delivery in about a month from now, late Feb. 2024. The Triumph dealership here in Dallas did not have an XE in stock to test ride, or to test out the seat height. I’m hoping that my 32” inseam will be enough to accommodate the XE. I was able to test ride the X model, and boy, what a blast it was. That engine is phenomenal. Happy Trails
I recently picked up a 2023 XE and can confirm the throttle definitely has a bit of the on/off feel to it making it a little snatchy… it’s helping me refine my skills to be extra smooth. :)
Get that ducati throttle spacer add-on (overpriced $20 plastic to remove throttle play), and contemplate using tuneecu to flash the ecu; triumph forums have lots of info on both! I'm a speed twin 1200 owner who's done both and the bike is much easier to ride.
@@krasky "mods" is a polite term. But yes; just like everyone hates oem equipment and prefers aftermarket. Anyway no one says you have to. It's just nice to have.
Heated grips should be on every bike above $5000. It costs the manufacturer what $20-50 at most? Yet it costs the consumer $200-300 plus a few hours labor. Vast majority of motorcycle sales markets would use heated grips more than half the year.
Really disappointed that no reviewer is digging deep and letting the viewers know triumph pulled the okie doke. Kinda did the reverse apple iPhone realize. The best iPhone ever!!. Well the best scrambler ever was the last years model. Especially the x. Yes lower suspension for accessibility but why lose the dash, better brakes, adjustable suspension, fork size? travel, and cruise control but the bike is only 1100 less. Even the front and rear higher on the X are now plastic instead of aluminum. Weird that triumph gave us a lot less bike for a lil less money. Even the xe loses out on the ohlins and showa suspension for marzochi which is a lesser suspension most would agree. Fork size drops from 47 to 45 mm also. Does include better brakes but upgrades suspension alone on bike is an up charge of at least 1500-3k. But they dropped the price 900 only.
Thank you for making these points. My local dealer has 2 XC's - a 24 for $14,500 and a 23 carry-over for $13,000. Looks like this decision is a no-brainer.
Nice review. Since Triumph lent me a Scrambler XE for 24 hours, I fell in love with it. However, I'm aware that the exhaust heat can be a major issue for me and my passenger. I then tried the Honda Transalp, which is a good bike overall but doesn't make you smile as much as the Scrambler. Finally, I tried the GS1300, and it's a beast! It has everything you could ask for. Whatever, I prefer the body position on the Scrambler. I felt my neck and shoulders were more relaxed, which sounds strange, but it's true! 😅 Are there any bikes with the same quality as the Xe and the GS?
Glad that I bought / have a 2022 XC, as compared to the de-contented new model X. Still scratching my head as to why Triumph did this. Lower price, yes. But losing the fully adjustable Showa and Ohlins suspension, the Brembo M50 brakes, cruise and keyless ignition far outweighs the $1,000 savings. Adds to their profit margin is my guess. Unit Garage makes an attractive and effective windscreen for these models The offroad riding you did on this video was awesome, and truly revealed a lot of what was lost with the X changes.
Some of us like to ride off road NOT in race mode all the time. It seems that all the reviews of this bike and other scrambler style bikes (other than your reviews) put down any bike that doesn't race fast. I would go with the X model just because I'm old and don't want the high seat of the XE. However, I still want cruise control. What is it with these companies that don't do that?
The first four model years were designed to be off road bikes, with slight favor for road or off road per the two models. XE sold to all the people that wanted to be able to go off-road hard core or anybody that wanted the idea of going hard off-road. The XC was still too much bike for most people, who still don't go off road. They reduced the X to be a road bike for all the people that wanted their bike to look like they take their bike off-road, but are actually just old men that aren't serious about the bike. If you want a dedicated road bike, just get the t120.
So im lookin at buying the XE but i'm only 5'7. I have 2 inch onsoles for my boots and im gonna get the lowered seat height for the XE if i buy it. Do you guys think I'll be able to fit it from someone that has experience with this new model?
Thanks for the review! It looks like they knocked a litre of fuel capacity off the MY24 edition (16 litres to 15). Not a huge difference, but very curious as to why they decided to do that.
I almost bought the 1200X but the high exhaust kills it for proper luggage options and of course the heat and leg interference. Other aftermarket exhaust are available but at a huge cost. Triumph needs to have a low exhaust option.
No hand warmers, but you get leg warmers. Sure, want hard-core off road, there are better bikes. Want comfortable highway adv, there are better bikes. Grew up in '60's, loving SoCal, Steve McQueen, Cycle World... awesome bike.
Thanks for the great footage and ride review! Has the changed front and rear suspension for the XE model made any noticeable difference to on/off road performance? Was it a cost saving decision?
It looks like there are a lot of little changes to bring the price down on both (not a bad thing.) Plastic fenders on the X, non-adjustable front suspension, (welded on passenger peg mounts, instead of removable?), keyless gone (not a bad thing.), (exhaust is routed tighter to the body?). The XE got rid of keyless too? 45mm front forks instead of 47mm? Love the styling on both though. Cool desert hotrod flair.
I agree with most in that ‘23 XE (or XC) is the way to go. Triumph had a decision to make, keep producing a premium niche bike that struggled to sell or cheap it out and go after a different market. I would’ve liked an upgraded revamp. Not a downgrade on a visually similar platform. I own an XE. Love it, with the exception that in the last few years triumph is putting out bikes that require continuous warranty claims. After years and years of owning numerous triumphs, it’s sadly time to move on. Hello Honda.
Specs look quite close to F900 GS in terms of weight and handling. BMW considers heated grips 'vital' for rider comfort and handling. I forget which article, but they said the grips were automated for 'outside' temperature. Would be interseting if Triumph made a HP2 version with more regard to saving weight.
I would like to hear your opinion of lightweight bikes for people with no off road experience . I’ve been riding on road for many years, but, I would like to be able to tour, and, get down a trail 2-3 miles for better camping, and, views. Do you have a recommendation ?
Decent looking XE that Will. I’ve been looking at what lights to change to. These small ones are lovely I just worry about road safety and the idiots being able to see them. Love that brake light
I really like the video. I consider this bike because i love scramblers, but pulled the trigger on a Desert X. I'm from SD, where are those trails in Borrego Springs?
I'm very curious about the new 400x Scrambler as a get-around bike for the city. Supposedly they are hitting the states any day now. I hope Ian gets to review the 400 series very soon.
What are we thinking the minimum inseam is to be able to comfortable manage the XE? Seat height always throws me a bit, with the squish of the seat and sole of boots 🤔🤷🏻♂️
It's very disappointing that they didn't modify the exhaust line to take the standing posture into account, as a former 1200 XE owner. Anyway, it's a cool bike.
Interesting that this X had handguards on it. They don't don't show them coming with them on their website nor is it on the X we have on out showroom floor.
I'm kinda firmly looking for an adventure style touring bike. So I wouldn't unless it was for a dedicated offroad with limited onroad. And I plan to have a drz for that stuff. Still, I'd love to at least try one for a greater certainty. Honestly, we can only say what we think we would or wouldn't without sitting on it and / original test riding. Love seeing the revew great vid, I'm sure you have thought of it long ago but a simple set of mechanics or medical style disposable rubber glove to wear under your cycling gloves can keep the water off your hands to some extent. Probably won't help, though, in the long run.
Regarding the ON/OFF traction control settings. Isn't that some sort of (EU) legal requirement now that you cannot return back to no TC? Annoying for sure, but I don't think Triumph can do anything about it.
I ride a lot off tarmac but seldom off road. At 72 I love my Africa Twin but don’t need the height and “long distance” weather protection. Am I right to think the XE with a lowering kit may be an option?
The X is a lot cheaper because of the huge downgrade on brakes and rear suspension in comparison with the XC. The previous XE has also more expensive suspension and brakes (rear brake is brembo on previous models not nissin).
I've become a big fan of your content! Are you going to review the Ténéré 700 World Raid? I've heard great things about this bike, and I think the upgrades might patch out the biggest downsides of the stock T7.
I Demo'ed one about a year and a half ago. Like the concept, like the motor, but feel they really need to address the exhaust and the standing position. I come from the off-road side and disliked the standing position which for me really limits its off road capabilities. I have found this issue on a few other bikes and it really limits you not having a comfortable standing position to control the bike from.
I did buy one. However I bought one before the updated poorer spec parts. Chrome edition with the Ohlins, Brembo and Showa. None of this marzocci or Nisin nonsense.
Im my opnion they have simply downgraded this new bike compared to the previous version. Thats how they were able to “lower” the price. Suspension, keyless start, handwarmer, TFT display and so on… might have been a clever market move but In my mind makes much more sense to purchase a pre owned XC as I did.
I'm getting a bit sick of manufacturers gouging customers for cruise control by only putting on the higher spec model. If a bike is already ride-by-wire, and youve already developed CC for the platform, how much does an extra button really cost?
They already cut costs and made an inferior suspension for you guys to pretend you bought an off-road bike. It's made to be the cheap version. The XC had cruise control and you didn't buy it.
@@logangodofcandy Boo hoo. Listen, people who want a scrambler don't want a motocross butt wedgie. People who want a scrambler aren't hucking up the side of a mountain, but bombing around local gravel roads and OHV trails. People who want a scrambler will ride pavement, commute to work, blast off into the occasional ditch. Original scramblers were road going motorcycles that people put knobby tires on and road into the dirt.
Given how the ADV bikes barely go off road...and this Tri is 500+ lbs at $15k, for the typical ADV buyer, I recommend buying the Yamaha Tracer 9GT+ for $16k US. Yes it has less clearance and the pipe outlet is on the bottom but if you don't really go on dirt camping roads but
2024 XE looks like a downgrade from the 23’s. The only change that I would want is the ignition key. I’ve noticed you are a bit knock kneed and that makes the pipes more intrusive to you. I actually have to bring my knees inward. The stock pegs suck, I replaced mine with pivot Pegz for extra width and length. The bike pogoing isn’t an issue if you take the time to adjust the suspension for how you are riding it. I’m really hoping that I’ll be able to retrofit the keyed ignition to my 2023 Xe.
The XE just seems like a bike without really a place. You'd get a dual sport for local off-road. And it's no good for adventure touring due to little tank and lack of luggage options.
X is better for more little person like me. XE too high !!! That’s also the reason I’ve chosen it and I’m very happy with my choice. You forget often that everybody not 1.85m tall !!! X is a superb bike and proportions are for me more equilibrated. An extra super bike😊 !! Was Absolutely not for the 900€ price difference because I’ve put on it more then 1450€ options 🤣🤣🤣
$15k? I think not. This is a $10k bike. It should be priced competitively with the Tenere 700 and Transalp 750. What can the Triumph do that those bikes can't, aside from look retroey?
Looks awesome; rides great. Too damn heavy off road; no wind protection on road (unless you’re just cruising at 60-70max). A bike I wanted to love so much, but… sold her in the end.
Iam not new here but I do like the content. What I dont like are all these scnamblers out there. If you want to go offroad, get an Enduro or MX bike. Sorry, but most of the people I see on Scramblers are wannabees. People who want to look like endurists but not more. Its like all the Harley drivers who want to look like HA but are actually accountants working for an insurance company. Everything today is about how it looks not how it works. Especially here in Germany with all the GS drivers. So this is my perfectly standard negative german rant in your comment section. Still a very good video and as always very professional!
I suspect that's why Triumph added more stuff but dropped the price - a 17,000-euro pricetag for a scrambler probably didn't help with sales targets. I could be wrong though. But I agree with the absurdity of "buying a lifestyle" (although aesthetics are important).
Seems they did alright in the sand and dirt. These are style statements for sure, but seem fairly capable for 500lb bikes. So if you want to do jeep trails, logging roads etc.. just fine, the an SV650 would also probably be just fine.
I wouldn't buy this heavy, expensive and heating pipe for offroad. So the XE models makes no sense for me. The other one makes much more sense, looks very nice, and since it is heavy with a good amount of suspension travel, it should be very confortable. The question is, are those positives worth the money and that hot leg?
I am trying to think of reasons why one would buy either of these bikes and come up empty. There are many off-road capable bikes that can do that better, and for lower cost. Oh yes, here is one reason - you want to fill Steve McQueen's boots.
I had never heard of the man when I bought mine. This bike looks cool. Adv bikes are ugly as hell. This has power, lots of torque, and can go off-road well. I find mine to be comfortable and it fits like a glove. It's literally everything I wanted in a bike. Well, except it didn't come with crash bars installed. Yes, having an ugly stupid looking bike makes the rider ugly and stupid. I'm very handsome, but I'm wearing a helmet, so for me to look good, my bike and gear have to look good.
Funny that Triumph would include cruise control on the more off-road focused model but not on the on road focused model. How often would one tend to use cruise control while off-roading?….mind boggling!
Would you buy a Scrambler instead of a traditional ADV bike? Why or why not?

The XC is Goldilocks. I'm just jealous that it didn't come in Baja orange.
Adam is the man.
You hangin with the big dogs now, Bro 🤗
Thanks for another informative episode of the new Triumph Scramblers.
I’ve chosen the XE, and should take delivery in about a month from now, late Feb. 2024.
The Triumph dealership here in Dallas did not have an XE in stock to test ride, or to test out the seat height.
I’m hoping that my 32” inseam will be enough to accommodate the XE.
I was able to test ride the X model, and boy, what a blast it was. That engine is phenomenal.
Happy Trails
You'll be fine and congrats--you will love it. I had mine 3 foot off the ground over a jump during a trail ride. landed easy.... Have fun!
@@JelloThatsMellow awesome, thanks for info… the bike, and Triumph in general, are new to me so that’s super helpful.
@@JelloThatsMellow Wait. You pay 15.000 bucks for this bike and still have to put some DIY solutions on it? WTF
@@krasky "mods" is a polite term.
But yes; just like everyone hates oem equipment and prefers aftermarket.
Anyway no one says you have to. It's just nice to have.
Would love to see you do the 2024 Scrambler 400X review on and off road!
Another vote for this!!
Great job with you review!!! Best review I've seen on TH-cam thanks again for all that the great information 👍 👍👍👍
Heated grips should be on every bike above $5000. It costs the manufacturer what $20-50 at most? Yet it costs the consumer $200-300 plus a few hours labor. Vast majority of motorcycle sales markets would use heated grips more than half the year.
100% agree
They want that 200 - 300 dollars. Manufacturers like profits.
The triumph heated grips are literally plug and play. If you can set up a DVD player, you can set up the heated grips.
So in your opinion, is the 2023xe a better bike than 2024xe?
@@sigberetta72 yes clearly.
Thank you for making these points. My local dealer has 2 XC's - a 24 for $14,500 and a 23 carry-over for $13,000. Looks like this decision is a no-brainer.
Good vid/review. Love riding that area. My playground for a few years. Scrambler pipes are tough. Lot of heat no matter what.
Gracias triumph por hacer una moto para gentes de menor estatura
You guys were hauling through the sand, impressive.
Amazing video (as always)! Can't for the next review ! Notifications always on 😊
Nice review.
Are there any bikes with the same quality as the Xe and the GS?
Glad that I bought / have a 2022 XC, as compared to the de-contented new model X. Still scratching my head as to why Triumph did this. Lower price, yes. But losing the fully adjustable Showa and Ohlins suspension, the Brembo M50 brakes, cruise and keyless ignition far outweighs the $1,000 savings. Adds to their profit margin is my guess. Unit Garage makes an attractive and effective windscreen for these models
The offroad riding you did on this video was awesome, and truly revealed a lot of what was lost with the X changes.
never clicked faster in my life for a video from BRM
Nice ride 🤙🏼 thank you for sharing
Obvious question is how do you compare the new suspension to to old on the xe ?
I almost bought the 1200X but the high exhaust kills it for proper luggage options and of course the heat and leg interference. Other aftermarket exhaust are available but at a huge cost. Triumph needs to have a low exhaust option.
Agreed
There are aftermarket bag mounts for this bike. No more expensive than anything else really.
No hand warmers, but you get leg warmers. Sure, want hard-core off road, there are better bikes. Want comfortable highway adv, there are better bikes. Grew up in '60's, loving SoCal, Steve McQueen, Cycle World... awesome bike.
Great review. Thanks!! Can you also pls comment on the exhaust pipe heat. Is that bearable over long touring hours? That has been a concern for many.
Thanks for the great footage and ride review! Has the changed front and rear suspension for the XE model made any noticeable difference to on/off road performance? Was it a cost saving decision?
I own a Tiger explorer and this bike intrigues me.
I made the switch and never looked back. You'll feel like a kid again. Seriously!
It looks like there are a lot of little changes to bring the price down on both (not a bad thing.)
Plastic fenders on the X, non-adjustable front suspension, (welded on passenger peg mounts, instead of removable?), keyless gone (not a bad thing.), (exhaust is routed tighter to the body?).
The XE got rid of keyless too? 45mm front forks instead of 47mm?
Love the styling on both though. Cool desert hotrod flair.
how are you liking that pant/jacket combo? Thinking about picking it up for 3 season riding in the PNW.
love it. 5 stars from me.
So for shorter riders doing mostly street riding woyld you recommend the Scrambler 900 or the Scrambler 1200 X?
Thanks Ian for the great review. Fabulous bikes, will you be reviewing the New Triumph 400's?
How did you find the Marzocchi suspension on the XE when riding offroad, as compared to the previous year's Öhlins and Showa?
It felt about the samd
Suprised your scrapping pega on that, didnt seem like you were being aggressive on lean.
Regarding the ON/OFF traction control settings. Isn't that some sort of (EU) legal requirement now that you cannot return back to no TC?
Annoying for sure, but I don't think Triumph can do anything about it.
The BMW stays in whatever mode you had it in previously. I don’t get why Triumph can’t do the same thing. My GSA was a 2022 and my XE is a 2023.
I ride a lot off tarmac but seldom off road. At 72 I love my Africa Twin but don’t need the height and “long distance” weather protection. Am I right to think the XE with a lowering kit may be an option?
The X or the XC would be better. The XE is a straight off-road focused bike.
Dang! I was hoping for a drop test!!😅
Like those bikes just cant deal w the heat from the pipes.
The X is a lot cheaper because of the huge downgrade on brakes and rear suspension in comparison with the XC. The previous XE has also more expensive suspension and brakes (rear brake is brembo on previous models not nissin).
I know this might sound trivial but when I see that cheap brake reservoir I can't help being turned off a bike. Thank you.
Looking forward to your 400X review if you get around to it...i have one on order they look to be popular
Did you get a chance to do a test ride at a demo day before purchasing? I'm curious about the ergos, poise and how well the bike plants in corners.
I've become a big fan of your content!
Are you going to review the Ténéré 700 World Raid? I've heard great things about this bike, and I think the upgrades might patch out the biggest downsides of the stock T7.
It's not available in the US unfortunately.
What are thoughts on the new ktm 790 adventure
I Demo'ed one about a year and a half ago. Like the concept, like the motor, but feel they really need to address the exhaust and the standing position. I come from the off-road side and disliked the standing position which for me really limits its off road capabilities. I have found this issue on a few other bikes and it really limits you not having a comfortable standing position to control the bike from.
Agreed
I really don't have an issue with the exhaust and riding position. Maybe just differences in our leg anatomy of something.
Question: would the low-slung Speed Twin exhaust swap onto this machine?
Zard makes a good replacement
@@francescoporcari8597 Excellent. I checked them out and they have a nice full system that under-slings the exhaust routing. Perfect solution.
What fuel consumption did you measure in the test?
40 to 45
Where are you riding?
They made the XC and you didn't buy it. Now they made the X and you're complaining still.
cruise should be standard on the x for us short guys
$13,595 yes, cruise should be included.
Where has Adam Waheed been lately? Great to see him out there “giving it the beans!” 😂
Really making a big deal about the difference in power between earlier models and 2024. I haven't heard that from anyone else. Is it really true?
It would be cool to see if you lived in Alaska and were a logger, what bike you would like best.
Weird comment

PLEASE REVIEW A SCRAMBLER 400 X
The TFT on the XE looks like it was designed by Playschool.
Given how the ADV bikes barely go off road...and this Tri is 500+ lbs at $15k, for the typical ADV buyer, I recommend buying the Yamaha Tracer 9GT+ for $16k US. Yes it has less clearance and the pipe outlet is on the bottom but if you don't really go on dirt camping roads but
That's an ugly adv bike. Just so you know, they make road focused adv bikes for you road tourers.
Unbelievable that they eliminated cruise control… that makes no sense… the reason why I sold my XC and kept my 900 Scrambler is what they fixed…
I'll stick with my XC
I love everything about those bikes except the pipe going right by my leg. I wouldn’t buy until that pipe is changed.
The biggest upgrade over the old model has got to be having a key! Keyless is a big pain.
true
No cruise control is unforgivable. Coming from a triumph fanboy
No cruise control on the X is a very odd decision.
Exhaust is a deal breaker for me. Looks and heat. I off-road my 2017 T100 with underslung exhaust just fine.
Nice looking bikes, but too heavy.
500 pounds!?!? Is that accurate? Lord , that’s heavier than most adventure bikes..
Just over, yes. And it is heavier than light weight adv, bikes but about medium overall.
You're kind of right, but people sometimes ride for style and not function. It's just a different mindset .
Scrambler XE very heavy to pick up after fall top heavy bike.
Didnot like 21” front wheel handling in turns
Funny that Triumph would include cruise control on the more off-road focused model but not on the on road focused model. How often would one tend to use cruise control while off-roading?….mind boggling!
That exhaust. So ridiculous😂
Frustrating that they are taking cruise control away from the more road focused model. How stupid
Why not just buy a gently used XC? Seems like triumph downgraded features (cruise control) and components (brakes…) on the X. “Parts Bin” bike?
19'' front would be better
How many times can you pick it up? Stay on the pavement, don't stand up.
