Celebrating Christmas in the Truck Camper

  • This week I take another solo camping excursion to a hidden jem. The kids are gone and Mandi's working, so I do a little Christmas / New Year's celebration in the woods. Minnesota is still cold; we still have snow, and the sun doesn't want to shine. So, everything is as usual. I am really happy with how well the Arctic Fox Truck Camper handles the cold weather. I find the camper more conformable than the bed in the house. Thanks for watching!

    I tried snow shoeing when I was in grade school, I remember it, it was fun, ok, not something I would take up. It’s basically being able to walk above deep snow. So you go at a walking pace. These shoes were big, it felt like learning to walk big foot style, lol. Did get my own cross country skis (n down hill skis), liked making my own tracks, you can go much farther, of course faster than shoeing for sure. I have an ebike too, love biking, its always been my passion, so that’s why cross country skis suited me better than snow shoeing. If you never have done either, (shoe vs ski) you might want to see if you can rent to try before investing. Happy New Year 🎉🍾🥂

    • @KennyOfAllTrades
      @KennyOfAllTrades  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great idea, I've never been on snow shoes. As a kid I played with down hill and cross country ski's. I'll ask around and see if any friends or family have a set of ski's to try out, or rent a pair like you said. Thanks for the tips.

It makes enough for 2-3 meals, which means if my son is with me, I get to have a little bit. I'll get a bag of fried rice and put chopped sausage in it, or a couple of extra eggs, or something that will taste good with rice and terayaki sauce. Kenny , you goy some cool stuff going ,brother . I was wondering, I’m from FL. How do you keep your truck for Rusting out . We see car’s trade in’s from up North . They are rusted out ..

    • @KennyOfAllTrades
      @KennyOfAllTrades  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are 100% correct, vehicles up here rust out fast! I try to keep the truck clean. Twice a year I pull the rubber plugs out of the rocker panels and flush out the salt and dirt. Same with the tail lights in the bed of the truck and the fenders up front, and I also make sure the door drains are open.
      Then I use a product called fluid film to spray the inside of the body panels. I have a two foot wand with a special spray tip to get good coverage inside the panels.
      I am constantly using a rust barrier spray on the frame. GM coats their frames with a waxy product. It scrapes off fairly easy. If I see exposed metal I clean it and spray the rust barrier on it.
      Rust up here is unavoidable if the vehicle is a daily driver. You can slow it down, but eventually it takes over. If I lived in Florida I would not be looking for a vehicle that came out of Minnesota. Thanks for the question!

    Liked the vid, scenery & Wishes. Do what You want to do. Check your bucket list. Just do some of us a favor & PLEASE use Less Music. Would be nice to hear the snow crunching under your feet, snow falling from branches, engine purring along & animals in the distance.

      I'm a little late to make a comment here... might be 3rrd watching. I agree with the comment on music. Wilderness should be more quiet. I don't charge for my advice.

    Hey Kenny, how do you stop your items on the counter from moving while driving.

    • @KennyOfAllTrades
      @KennyOfAllTrades  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The toaster and coffee pot have never moved.....they just sit on the counter. The charger basses for the two way radios are held down with sticky velcro. All the baskets are being held down with the same sticky velcro product.

    Merry Christmas Kenny! Hey how much does the front of your cargo carrier stick out from the bumper? Im going to put a front mount spare tire carrier and cargo basket that would be 60” wide and stick out 35”. You think that would be too much? We have an F350 SRW Supercab with a short bed Arctic fox 865.

      I just measured my front basket. It is 50 in wide. It sticks out 32 in from my front bumper. I added the marker flags to the front of the basket. I have never had issues with the front basket being there, whether I'm in a parking lot, navigating trails or in stop-and-go traffic.
      I did have a video showing info on the basket. I installed a camera on the basket so I can see exactly how close I am to objects in front of me.

      And to answer your question, 35 inches would not be an issue for me.

      Awesome, thanks so much for measuring!!! I did see that video and a bunch of your other ones, great work! I actually installed a camera on top of the camper next to a cell booster antenna I put in that looks down the nose to see the front of the truck. It also serves as a clearance camera for low bridges/ gas station awnings. My wife and I are full time and have a pretty similar setup. I do all my own work like you so love getting ideas.

      Those are excellent ideas. The camera by the cell phone ant is brilliant! I would love to be able to see the overhead clearance.

      @@KennyOfAllTrades Its a piece of 1” galvanized pipe with a floor flange on it screwed into the roof with 3/4” screws and then dicor. cell antenna came with a pipe mount. The pipe is the same length as the highest point on my roof. On top of the pipe is a tee and the wireless battery camera is hose clamped onto that.
