I worked at Armour for 2 years. Treet is essentially Vienna Sausage meat that's formed into a loaf. It has added ingredients to change the flavor.

Grew up eating them both, easy way to remember for me is Spam rhymes with ham wich is what spam tastes like to me, the Treet tastes more like bologna or hot dogs. But both were really good sliced thin and fried crispy, on bread with mustard and tomato after getting out of the pool back in the 80's. LOL

My crack addicted wife really loves both of these. I save a lot of money on food, and she can't pawn the cans of treat or spam for crack. I was surprised when she was able to get $1.20 for 21 eggs we had in the fridge. I guess you can get some money for anything if you really are desperate enough. One day she came back with the Treet and Spam, but the eggs were gone..so I figured the pawn shop or flea market isn't taking the Treet or the Spam..It's worked out, she's put on 15 pounds. We appreciate the review!
This sort of information really helps the REAL people out there, trying to get by, and figure out what food their crack addicted wife can't pawn or flea market. We appreciate it.
EDIT: My crack addicted wife found a typo, so I corrected it.

I live in the Republic of Panama and buy canned meats to have on hand in case of an emergency. I no longer buy Treet. The cans rust and lose their seal. After 4 or 5 years that is. If you have a lot of canned meats stored and stacked and a can leaks you have to go thru the cans, find the leaker and remove it. Then you have to clean up all the rest of the cans that have juice on them. The odor is terrible. Treet is a a bad product for prepping. I have thrown away so many cans of Treet. I have never lost a can of Spam. Even after 10 or more years of storage in my climate, Spam is still intact and safe to eat. Do not buy Treet for prepping. There are other brands that do not stay sealed as well. Stick with Spam for long term storage.

As ham is better than bologna, and as sausage is better than hot dog wieners, so too is SPAM better than TREET. I’ve always loved SPAM. I used to treat TREET as simply inferior. However, once I came to a fundamental change in my attitude and thinking about both products, I began to appreciate TREET more than before. Instead of treating TREET as inferior, I began to simply consider it to be different. So then a ham sandwich is better and quite different than a bologna sandwich, also a sausage dog to a hot dog. Yet, that doesn’t mean that a bologna sandwich or hot dog is a bad thing. So too is SPAM to TREET.

Hey Bud, the Treet Original is made with Chicken & Pork and that's why it tastes like a cheaper, non-beef hotdog. The SPAM is ham and pork. Armour makes a luncheon meat that is all pork and is pork and thus, the real competeitor to SPAM. This was an UNFAIR comparison.

They make a "reduced-sodium" version of Spam which I prefer over the original. I remember Treet from my childhood. It was cheaper than Spam which is probably why my parents bought it. When meat was almost impossible to find 2 1/2 years ago Treet was the only canned meat on the grocery store shelf. I bought several cans, thinking it should taste the same as it did 50-60 years ago. It doesn't! It was gross. I later found some of the reduced-sodium Spam, and it was great. Tasted just like I remember Treet. We always just sliced it (either one) into slices, dumped some brown sugar on top, and heated it through. Never tried it fried, but it sounds good.

  • @Adinkydude

Treet is much cheaper than Spam. As of now, Spam is $3.58 per 12 oz can while Treet is only $2.08 at Walmart. But there are several varieties of Spam (Lite, less sodium, various flavors) while there is only one Treet version.

I still have still eaten the combo but Treet is now a bit too salty for my taste now so I'll probably be switching to Spam, which I like.

The problem is the type of people that eat a lot of TV dinners canned food and bologna. Tend to like the taste of the treat better. Because those types of people do not prefer fresh tasting in fresh ingredients. I have a 68-year-old mother-in-law. That has the pallet of a five year old from the 1980s. For instance I grew up eating and making sauce with my Italian immigrant grandparents. So when I make a I use all fresh ingredients in seasoning. I use fresh diced onions for onion flavor same with garlic fresh garlic fresh parsley etc. My mother-in-law prefers sauce made with what I call mummified seasonings dehydrated and a shaky shaker. Her idea of a good homemade sauce. Is to start off with either hunts or the cheapest store brand tomato puree plopped into a pot with a generous shake of mummified seasonings from her cabinet from the '80s. A big shake of onion powder garlic powder and a big giant shaking of a dried out Italian seasoning mix that says authentic Italian seasonings. Which is a shaky bottle of everything but the kitchen sink. I read the back of that Italian seasonings. It consists of dry basil dry parsley Rosemary tyme cumin chili flakes and four or five other things that I forgot that are not Italian. She thinks any food made with fresh seasonings or vegetables are disgusting. She has grown up her whole life eating only processed foods and 90% of her cooking is microwavable. Her poor husband has suffered eating her terrible food for years. Because when I made them a fresh sauce. She was very vocal of how she did not like it. She asked her husband if he liked it and he was quickly like yes. She said is it better than the sauce I make any quickly said yes.lol sorry for the long story but I really like the psychology of why people prefer some other foods than others.
