00:00 So what was it like - over here - what was it like with with Dennis out there with you guys for the first time?
00:09 GARY PAYTON II: It was great, come in, get acclimated, pick up what we're doing. He's a very intelligent guy. So, give him the basic concepts of the set. He already knows what we're trying to do, how we're trying to play, so I feel like it's gonna be good, exciting. Got another ball-handler, so takes a little pressure off of 30 and lets him roam around and do what he does. And I know Dennis is gonna be himself, aggressive, but also still play-make. So, excited to see.
00:41 What have your experiences been guarding against Dennis in the past?
00:46 It's annoying. He moves nonstop, quick, shifty, loves the reject screens. He's hit me with a couple in the past couple of years. So to be on the other side of that is great now. So it's gonna be nice.
01:03 He, obviously, kind of plays a different style than you guys are used to, gets to the mid-range really well, pick-and-roll. I mean, what's the benefit of bringing in somebody who might be a little bit different than the rest of the roster?
01:13 Like you just said, he's different. Other teams know how he play, but, like you said, it's gonna mix in with us. And I know Steve's gonna let him be him. So if he gets his looks, he takes them and make something work. But I know he's gonna adjust, just like any other guy comes to a new team, just - but still be himself and I know Steve's gonna give him the freedom to be himself. So just let him be Dennis.
01:43 Have you interacted with him much over the years? Any sense for what he's like as a person?
01:49 No, I, heard good things about Dennis. I had a really good friend named Isaac Bonga. He played with him this summer in the Olympics. So, nothing but good things from Bonga about Dennis. He's a competitor. He likes to fight. He likes to talk, too. It's gonna be fun to see them two on the same side. So I'm excited.
02:13 What did Isaac tell you?
02:14 Just that he's sort of feisty competitive. Yeah, you can see it, too, it when he plays. He's aggressive, feisty, good guy off the court, for sure. He likes soccer, so he's gonna fit in really well with me, Gui and Kuminga. So I don't know if he wants to hop in our pregame, but we're welcoming him with open arms.
02:36 Gary, it's obviously a business and you lose some teammates going to either side. But what kind of energy does a trade like this bring when you get a player the caliber of Dennis?
02:45 Excitement, another ball-handler, guard, quick, shifty, likes to play defense, get out and run. So just to throw him in and let him find his way, which he will. It's gonna be fun. Got another pair of eyes, ready to play-making, spray the ball out. So it's gonna be exciting.
03:04 How can this move specifically help like a young guy like Podz?
03:08 It'll help both ways. You got another veteran guard, Olympian, come in and you can just feed off his energy, feed off the way he plays, ask questions, whatever. And it's gonna help get Podz off the ball sometimes and when we're gone, you got another one. So we got two ball-handlers in, open the space more, especially for Dennis having Buddy and 30. I know he's gonna be out there with them, too. So it's gonna be nice and floor's gonna be open for make play-makes.
03:40 Dunleavy in the front office made the trade on the first possible day they could. What does it say about this team that it seemed like they acted with urgency?
03:49 We'll see. Yeah, I guess Mike was ready to go. So he had his mind made and you feel me? So when it happens, it happens. So our job is to get acclimated with him, get him up to speed and, well, we got - play on Thursday? So, be ready to go back on Thursday. And it's against Memphis, so should be a fun one.
04:13 Gary, as far as getting forced defensively to start games, I mean, obviously Luka was hot last game. I mean, how team-wide do you think - whether you're starting, off the bench, whether Draymond's starting to come off the bench - how do you think you enable that force to be right from the get-go for the defense?
04:28 Yeah, we gotta do it together from - 48 minutes from jump, bring force, hit first. There's some games we do and some games we don't. We just gotta continue to practice and continue just to come out from jump, hit first. And I think most of the time when we hit first, we have put ourselves in a good spot to control the game.
04:47 I think this will be the first time that Ja Morant has played against you guys in, like, two or three seasons. What have you seen from him this season and just what's it like guarding him?
04:56 Well, he's healthy. That's pretty much it. So when he's healthy, he's Ja. So that's all I can give you. He's healthy. He's unpredictable. So you just gotta hit first, I guess.
05:11 Following up on that question, just before you played Memphis last time, you and I talked and you said it wasn't gonna be much fun without Ja.
    05:18 Yeah, I know.
05:19 Why is it so much fun to guard him?
05:21 Because he brings that level and that fight and you gotta bring it or you're gonna get beat up. So we don't want to get beat up. So he brings it. I bring it. It makes both of us better. It's gonna be fun. You already know what it is.
05:37 You, I assume, noticed his declaration that he wasn't gonna dunk and then he's dunked a few times.
05:42 Yeah, it's when needed. I peep that. When he has to, he's gonna. So I'm not gonna believe him on that one.
05:53 Steve was here briefly. We were talking about today's the seventh - ends a seven-day stretch where you guys only had one game, right? Which is very unusual, I would say, right? How much value do you feel rested, rejuvenated at all?
06:08 KEVON LOONEY: Yeah, I think it was good for us, not so much on the rest side, just to be able to sharpen back up, go over a lot of film, go over - practice a lot of small details and defense and offensive concepts that we - it's kind of like a - not like a training camp, but just a refresher on everything. So it was good to do that.
06:25 Particularly tough (inaudible) where the timing was good with a new player.
    06:28 Yeah, definitely.
06:29 So these last two days, did you feel like they were valuable for Dennis to get acclimated, I mean, from your viewpoint?
06:36 For sure. We was able to go - we had a crash course in our defense again, today. Offense yesterday. A lot of offense. We had to scrimmage a little bit. So he got to come in and we got to give him two real practices of how we like to do things. He's not, of course, not gonna pick it up in two days, but he's a smart player. He's been on a few different teams, so he knows the concepts that, yeah, he done played against us a lot. So he kind of knows what we kinda do already. So I think it's gonna be a easy fit.
07:07 One of the things Steve's talked about is the value of having two point guards on the court, if it's him and Steph at the same time, maybe three with Draymond. But, I'm curious, your perspective on the way the game's evolved and what you see as the advantages of having that extra ball-handler.
07:28 It makes it even more dynamic to be able to have him out there to - another guy that can play pick-and-roll at an elite level, somebody that can push the pace. He can control the game, he can - he knows when to get guys shots. So just having those minds out there on the court kind of just boosts our whole team IQ. So I think it's really valuable for us and he's a guy that can play on the ball and off the ball in his career for multiple teams. So just adding that to us is, it's gonna be great.
07:56 Now the flip side of that would seem to be, he's only 6'1. Steph's obviously 6'2, 6'3. To have both of them out there at the same time, is there any concern teams could take advantage of that size difference? Back in the day when Klay and Steph were there, you had - that was a big advantage, right? You had 6'7 shooting guard. How do you view that?
08:17 I don't think it's a risk. I don't think it's that many - I don't think it's that many big backcourts, like, guys not posting up anymore. And I think Dennis is a elite defender. He used to guys trying to post him and do different things like that. He's been a great defender for his whole career. So I think it's gonna be a - he can guard bigger guards and then we got different options off the bench, if you got big wings, different things we can go to. So I think it's something that we've been used to. We kind of always kind of have been having a small backcourt the last - we played with BP last year, played with CP a little bit. So we're used to having guys in the backcourt playing with Steph that's a little smaller. But he defends and so I don't think it's gonna be that much of a problem.
    08:56 He's got a little bigger wingspan.
    08:57 Yeah, for sure.

09:01 One last thing I was gonna ask was Ja. Last time you guys played here, Ja didn't play. It sounds like he probably will play tomorrow. He's pretty unique skill set. How challenging is that? What do you have to do to sort of limit his highlight-reel plays?
09:19 He definitely changes the whole team when he's out there. He's a leader. He's one of the best guards in the league. So, going against him is gonna be fun. He brings a challenge. He's a great pick-and-roll player. He pushes the pace. He's tough to stop in the open court. So all the things that we've been harping on and practicing since training camp in the last few days, he's gonna test that. So we're gonna get to see where we're at and see if we can make an improvement at that. We got a unique offense and they've been scoring a lot of points. So, it's gonna be a fun game and hopefully our defense can take that challenge. With a guy like Ja, you can't put one person on him and expect to stop him, so it's a team effort. So it's gonna be a good challenge.
      10:00 How was practice?
10:03 BRANDIN PODZIEMSKI: It was good. We just went over some stuff that we wanted to clean up from the last two games, thought it was productive. Have a good shootaround tomorrow, get ready for the Timberwolves.
10:13 Steve mentioned last night (on) the film, lack of hustle, fighting for loose balls or what not. What have you noticed in that regard? What's jumped out on film the last couple of days with some of the issues that have been happening defensively?
10:26 I mean, we just all gotta do our part. We all gotta bring it, as much as we can. I know for me, that's a focus of mine, giving it all I got when I'm out there. And I think if everybody has the mentality for however long they're out there, we'll be fine.
10:41 For you, Steve had mentioned he thinks Dennis - having Dennis is gonna help playing, being a secondary creator. Do you feel that way? What have you noticed about his addition as it pertains to your role on this team?
10:52 I think it's great. I think Dennis is a great player, brings great things to our team. But no matter who I'm out there with, it doesn't really matter. I just kind of do my thing when I'm out there, just try to make the right play every time, regardless of who's out there with me. And last game I think, personally, I did well. Obviously, got blown out by 50, but I think things are never as good or as bad as they seem.
11:17 What was working for you yesterday? What kind of rhythm did you feel like - ?
11:21 Just playing free, not really thinking about anything. Not really looking at the coaches. Just kind of leading the group I was out there with, just playing free. I think the last maybe 18 minutes that I played, the last six in the third and the whole fourth, we didn't call a single play. We were just out there playing and we just kind of got in a rhythm there, that last group and it just felt good offensively.
11:47 Leaders on this team have talked about the morale staying intact, despite losses in 9 of 11. Where do you see the morale is at? What keeps it intact during a tough stretch like this?
11:55 Our team's been heavy energy. Big credit to Buddy. He brings it all the time. But you wouldn't know, if you were on the plane with us or locker room, if we've lost 9 of 11 or won 10, 9 of 11. I think it's just steady because we know it's a long season. Who we really are is gonna show at the end of the season. And so I think us just staying on track and keeping the energy high and controlling what we can control, which is energy, we'll be fine.
