    Happy Father's day Graeme-
Let's start with my dad joke. I was sitting in my cabin, enjoying coffee with my bacon, eggs and biscuits, when I spotted an albino Dalmatian! It was the least I could do.
Touching on your construction methods, ideas, etc. I notice so often during your videos that you're clearing out things which exist in the workflow.
If you take the time to look around and see what needs to go to fit the plans you've got on paper (with a cut sheet that shows your costs too), spend a day or 2 simply making room for the project before making the first piece of sawdust.
This cabin is going to be really cool when you're done.
    Godspeed, Sir.

Use those two trees as the entrance to the deck/cabin from walking up the path to the cabin. They can be the “posts” at the steps - 1st step at the base of the trees & go up from there. You can drill into the trees to set an anchor for the railing attached to the deck/stairs.
    I know
    It’s genius 😎

My wood/cabin joke. Sven and Ollie wanted to build a cabin so they went to the lumber yard. Ollie stayed in the truck and sent Sven in for 'da vood'. Sven told the clerk, "ve need some 4 by 2's for our cabin" the clerk replied, you mean 2 by 4's? Sven replied, yust a minute and went back to Ollie and returned to the clerk and said "yes, ve need 2 by 4's". The clerk said, how long do you need them? Sven them responded, "ve need dem a long time cuz ve are building a cabin!! I love your channel! Great work!

I had a construction business with a good friend till '21, whose Dad had the business since the late 60's. They said if they were asked to do something they'd never done, they just said 'NO problem!!' then scratched their heads and figured it out as they went. That's what you're doing and it's the best way to really learn, in my opinion. My friend passed in '21 from cancer and I miss working with him, but I hear him in what comes out of you from time to time. If you're not running your own construction business in the next ten years, I'll be surprised... you're a natural. I made this up "What did the broken screw gun say when asked if it missed working? Just a little bit!"🤓

You need a surveyor buddy that lives close to you. As one, I would've gladly laid those posts out for you. I've seen other people use the lasers with the vertical lines. You could line it up with the face of your building and mark it out. Then just measure your distance from the corners and find where they intersect with your diagonals to check it. Looks great though man. Thank you for the content and happy Father's Day

Use your laser more. It's a pure vertical line and a pure horizontal lint. Run it along the string line to verify its straightness, then use the vertical to find the exact placement for the bolts. You can just use a 2-by to see the vertical line. It's better than the plumb bob you invented.

Well this time it’s a Sunday afternoon sitting on my veranda with my little wood stove keeping me warm.
I’m going to leave the dad jokes alone. But I’ll offer an idea. You need a small water tank up there. Maybe 500 to 1000 gallons. Then some poly pipe and a small petrol pump so you can fill it from the creek. Put it slightly above the cabin but make the top lower than the drip edge of the roof. Can pump water and or collect rain water off the roof. Your wife and kids will thank you for it later on.

Stair location: Work it out on paper. Draw out the deck and then arrange your furniture, grill, etc... then decide where the stairs would fit best. That way later on you're not kicking yourself and saying, "Wow, I really didn't think this out." This is how I'm designing my house with my existing furniture which I'll probably never get rid of. My doors and windows, hallways etc work around what I already have. I have grid paper and measure my furniture, appliances and then cut out little pieces of paper I can move around on the grid and then draw in my walls, windows and doors. Backwards... maybe, but everything fits! Just a thought... a glimpse into my scary mind... the right side of the brain... 😄👍
