OK, have to defend myself. I did NOT lift the bale that high. It was just high enough to see under to the road ahead. They showed up with a fake hay bale made of straw and chicken wire (it was yellow and they didn’t understand the difference between straw and hay….they spent hours spraying the straw with cans of paint). But the hay bale was too light and wouldn’t fall out of the bucket. They put it as high as it would go and shoved it out with a broom handle :>). Dan Caliendo

Did an actor play you during the re-enactment Dr. C..or did you play yourself??? Why would any victim want to relive a nasty experience for a fantastic show?!

Dear god this must’ve been traumatizing for the doctors and his wife and kids, seeing their friend/family member being so near to death like that. And especially for Doctor C, poor guy must have some PTSD from that event.

Mary Jo died in 2016. Dr. Caliendo wrote this poem about her:
"Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, Love leaves a memory no one can steal."
Over those 50 years we managed to fill our marriage vows to have and to hold:
For better: a loving family, fun times playing cards and vacationing with our friends, four wheeling and skiing the mountains, volunteering at the zoo, competing in dog agility and obedience, and making a loving home for Dan
For Worse: a year apart while Dan was in Viet Nam, watching a falling hay bale paralyze Dan, loss of family members and pets.
For Richer: blessed with all we needed and our little corner of the earth for a home
For Poorer: during medical school we both part time jobs and ate liver, spaghetti and hamburger all month so we could afford to buy a piece of round steak for the charcoal grill at the end of the month.
In Sickness: Dan's 5 months in rehab after being paralyzed, Jo's month in ICU with 3 abdominal surgeries in 5 days, and the last month dying at home with a weak heart.
In Health: all those years of being able to raise a family and establish a home in good health
To love and cherish until death do us part: that we did for 50 great years living the definition of a soul mate: "Two people so in love that they become like one person making each other feel whole and like no piece is missing from the puzzle."

I would be horrified to be on a scene where someone I know or love is the victim of an accident. I don’t know what I would do. I am glad there are people who are out there that work in this field.

Some hay bales can be extremely dangerous. This man is lucky to be alive.

What Dan should've down is when he heard the chain snap, he must immediately jump off the tractor on one side and check his landing before jumping off before the bail crushes him.
