    Benedict’s fathers’ definition of alcoholism as a disease is spot on. No matter who you are, it can take over your life. My husband will have 25 years of sobriety this July. I am so proud of him, but like I’ve told him and those in his 12 step groups over the years, it isn’t his fault that he’s an alcoholic, but it IS his responsibility, ❤

    John is a proud man and was determined to get onto that MRI bed somehow. Bless him, I cried with him.

    • @crispychrissy

      That’s a CT scanner, not an MRI. It’s like a 3D x-ray, while an MRI is a big magnet. They usually don’t do MRI scans on initial contact with trauma patients because their medical history isn’t known. If the patient has some kind of metal in their body, the MRI will rip it out, while the CT scan won’t.

      @@bushlovesska Lol, why on earth do you think this comment is controversial? This comment is perfectly good and cannot be removed. When the body doesn't work like in the case diabetes, then it is a disease. But when we have An overly big intake of an ingredient like alcohole, then we have abuse. Love.

    • @anglophils645
      @anglophils645 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It's complicated. Type 2 diabetes is, in fact, caused by an abuse of sugar, of carbohydrates. Cut back on carbs, lose weight, and type 2 diabetes will go away. And many people can abuse alcohol from time to time, but never become a true alcoholic, which is someone who is so addicted that he or she feels ill without it. To overcome true alcoholism requires medical detox and long-term support. If an alcoholic stops drinking suddenly, he or she can die from the physical withdrawal consequences. To attempt to do so would be dangerous.

      I think it would be too intrusive. They 've already sacrificed their privacy in the hospital, and then months later (even a year or more) for the first update. Life has to go on, and at some point they just don't want a camera crew in their face again.

    Why do people think that kicking someone out of the home is a solution?

    • @oliviasolomon9492
      @oliviasolomon9492 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      I don’t know that kicking someone out of a home is ever a solution but in some cases there do need to be consequences for actions and tough love. You can always love your child unconditionally without enabling them. I can’t imagine how hard that line is to find though and I’m sure it’s different for each person and family.

    • @housetwokidsnodog
      @housetwokidsnodog 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      It's not a solution! But sometimes, you can't help a person anymore (if he or, she denies all help) and then you need to protect yourself... Cause there is no point in destroying yourself to a point where you can't help that person anymore, once he/she came 'round

    amnesia sucks. I've had it happen to me from a big fall about 12ft in a tree and I was hitting the tree branches on the way down as a pre teen and next thing i know is that I was in the ER parking lot. I was wondering where I was and then ouch my arm hurts. I didn't know my name,where i was,who my parents were, what happened and where i lived. I had a broken arm and a bad concussion. My brother said I was carried in the car and while my dad was carrying me was mumbling and spit bubbles were coming out of my mouth. I still can't remember the actual fall like how It happened. I think I was trying to get down the tree. 🤔
