- I know this is not a polygel nail set today. I decided I wanted to go back to my roots and try dip powder again... watch the vid to see how it turned out.

I put activator on and then put on base coat and that’s why my brush hardened... I made a mistake ok🥺

Yep! It happens to all first timers!
Nice video! One suggestion I have is to pour the powder on instead of dipping when the nails are long. And you will get the cuticle easier that way too. Dipping sort of moves the resin (base) around too much which can make the end result lumpy. You will also avoid having to mold it around. You can use an e file if you cap the color powder with the clear. Hope that helps if you try it again😊

Dip Powder Tip: To avoid the brush hardening, do not put activator on to your nail after dipping your nail if your not finished with that nail. You put the activator on when you finish with dipping your nail completely. 😁

agreee,,,,,and u brush glue up the middle twice,,,then do the whole nail to the end,,,,4x then activator allll then file,,bufff ,,,,mine came out beautiful,,,2"nails and i am a lic tec,,,they came a long way , 1984

The brushes get hard because you didn’t wipe the extra activator before off before applying more base.
Im always doing dip powder and I've never had the problem to use e-file for it, I was really surprised when you said it can't be used because it comes off in chunks
It can definitely be filed with an e file that's how get the best shape .
lolo.beauty 27 i agree. i used Kiara Sky and Azure dip powder and used the e-file with both brands and it worked out beautifully.
I dont use dip anymore but I've always used my efile never had a problem and used all diff brands
I probably should have tried it, but I remember when I used to do dip powder I used the KISS brand and that’s a really cheap brand and I guess that’s why it came off in chunks. I didn’t try the e file with this kit but I’ll take your word that it works. 💕💕
@@NailsByVic if it's coming off in chunks it's because your activator has not sat long enough to penetrate all the layers. Doesn't matter the brand.
I love how even you have trouble sometimes doing your nails because you always make them look easy. The nails looked a mess at first but at the end.. Girlll you know how to make them look so good. I try my best for my nails and there is always something that i wish came out better. But watching you helps alot. Thnxs alot girl. Much luv ❤
The bumps are from how you are dipping them in the powder. Don't go straight down into the jar, you want to angle it, or, use something to scoop and sprinkle over the nail. Especially since you are doing long nails, that method works best.

Keep ur file at a nice sharp angle
If the sides are bowing its because your file is not firm enough and staying straight, also like mentioned above keep your file at an angle with all the file making contact with the side of a nail, if you are holding the file correctly and firm the sides will not bow out (round out)

From my understanding with these kits you should build up your nail first with the clear powder and then do the color. Also a lot of people suggest adding your first coat of base at the line we’re your nail and the tip meet.
When you added the activator before you finished dipping I was like nooooooo the brush is gonna harden 😫

the nail started to get chunky because you’re dipping your finger straight into it, you’re to go from about a 45 degree angle, makes sure the powder goes onto the glue smoothly! and never use more base when the activator is not fully dry (it dries after about 2 minutes) because thats whats hardening your brush and making it difficult to apply! much love!! ❤️❤️ (extra tips: use activator at the end, and after you file the nail, it makes everything so much easier to work with ❤️)

the brush hardened up because you put the activator on. the activator goes on after you’ve done all your layers. when the base gel& the activator mix, your brush WILL harden. just an FYI. they came out cute though!

I use a drill with mine but i use kiaria sky dip powder
if you dont want the brush getting hard you have to wash off the activator and to avoid the lumps and bumps I would've put the nail into the powder at a 45 degree angle instead of straight down :)
You have to wipe your brush and also your activator if your gonna come back over it with base coat. Thats why your brush hardened. Taking an e-file might make it come off in chunks sometimes if you do "many" layers of activator. 😉 next time, don't complicate your life...just apply your activator once, just before your filing, and you will be able to e-file. Also, long nails, you better dip at 45 degrees instead of straight down, you won't get lumps. Btw, your shaping skills are amazing.

My dip powder never chips when I use my efile. I always use the hand file first and I make sure I allow the activator to dry completely before using the efile. It’s never come off in chunks for me. You did good shaping with the hand file though.
I didn’t try the efile with this kit, but I remember when I used to use the KISS dip powder it used to come off in chunks but that’s a really cheap brand so I guess that why it used to do that. I probably should have tried the efile with this kit...
I love how they came out because of all the filing u put in . You saved it! but dip powder is a bummer at times. But again, I still like them, the shape is everything!

Love the white 😍 can’t go wrong with it !! I get powder extensions all the time ! I use to get acrylic but i realized how bad it was damaging my real nails. Powder is way healthier for your natural nails and looks just as pretty

I do dip all the time when you get the powder and base coat on your finger just take your hand file and lightly file it till it's off thats what I do then just brush off the powder!
You should watch Marla Kriss all she does is dip powders and she uses a drill bit for everything. You did an awesome job filing, they look great I think.
I've never had that problem using my nail drill with dip nails...but yea I think u should stick with polygel bcuz u are great with polygel

You definitely CAN use an e-file with dip powder. I never have an issue and it works great!
I use my e-file a the time on my dip powder nails, mine never comes off in chunks 🤷
The angle that you dip the nails in affects how the powder lays hence why you got weird lumps in them ! Try dipping them in and taking them out at 45° to the pot x

I just did my nails today and was gonna do white but decided last minute to change it lol I know from reading some comments you already know about the activator lol but even though you had trouble in the beginning Girl you made em look NICE!!!! Great job!

Activator is used when you have finish putting on the layers off the dip powder. But you done well with getting them nails to where they are now.
The waves or ripples are just from the way you dip. Just have to dip at an angle not straight in or upside down. I had to learn the hard way 😶

Hey you had a great end result which shows people how important it is to learn how to properly hand file. You definitely made some errors which made more work for yourself but a lot of people addressed that in the comments such as not using activator halfway through, blending off as you apply each base layer, and being more controlled when applying the base. It just requires more of a precise application, and if you had product coming off with efile use it was because it hadn't cured properly, I'm guessing because KISS is crap lol.
You have really nice nail plates so even with just tips before product you have a nice side profile which helped you a lot even if you did want a more defined apex
these came out so cute but if u want to stop your bruh from hardening you shouldn't put the activator on til the end because the residue will make the brush hard
YES! That’s probably why she was having issues with the texture of the dip too. They still can’t it really nicely!

Your brush will harden if it comes into contact with the activator. Activate at the end when done all layers twice and you should be able to efile. I mostly use efile with dip powder application! I usually use gel no wipe top coat. Hope this helps if you decide to try again!
Hey just a tip for you.... Don't use any activator until all the nail is covered. That's why your brushes are getting hard.

A dip powder primer will not be sticky because it will gunk up your case brush. It's basically a dehydrator. And Evie usually does a little line if dip where the nail tip meets the natural nail then she'll start building it upfrom above that and then going up a little bit further each time until she gets to the cuticle. She does not start at the tip and build from there. That would be building an apex at the beginning of the nail. Your Bass brushes getting hard because you applied activator and then went back in with a base. The activator will ruin your brushes if you do not clean the activator off before using the next step. normally wouldn't go back in with base after activating so your base brush wouldn't usually get hard. And you're getting lumps in your dip powder because you're using too thick of a base coat. If your brushes get hard use the brush saver. I'm brand new to dip powder and I've never had a brush harden up on me.

The activator hardens the base coat, so the brushes of the base coat was hardening along with the nail. You shouldn’t apply activator unless you are completely finished applying the base coat. I love your channel💜

Oh man, watching this was nearly PAINFUL! I've so been there, made all the same mistakes. Talk about frustrating! But there is a technique and once its grasped dip nails can be easy. But like you, I haven't used the system in a while and am a huge fan of hybrid gel. I truly enjoy your videos, and your nails did turn out beautiful!
I like dipped powder I think it is just because you havent used it in a while is all. I'm sure if you did it a few more time you would have an amazing application and after you filed these they looked good but they clear nail with the glitter I didnt like it was to cloudy but hey you still made them look great!

You can't put activator on then more base... it will harden the glue...activator should be applied when you're done. Try to keep the activator apart from the glue. . Love your channel

im not a pro but i did a set with dip last night and i feel like it was easier if you brush the whole nail and dip and wipe the brush on papertowel after each nail and do a few layers and than when done activate

The brush got hard because you used the activator before you where done, on use the activator at the very end. (Before filing and after filing if when your supposed to use the activator)

Let me start off by saying you did a great job, a few constructive criticism i would give are .... You can use an E file with dip powder you just have to activate it first let it dry then go in with the e-file, big clumps are falling off because the powder hasn't been activated yet. Also the reason the application was bumpy is because your apply too much base it should be a thin layer to help for smooth application. Your brushes as becoming hard because your not brushing the dust off enough before reapplying the base so the dust is being collected in the bristles, I would suggest using using one of those small nail hand brushes that are rectangular in shape, lastly acetone will save your brush if u soak them. Try this and see if you start to enjoy the application process more but overall great job you nails look beautiful
I was so freaking scared when you started dipping your nails in the powder. But they ended up looking much better than I expected.
I love watching your videos while doing my nails!! I will say, I used the Kiara Sky dip powder kit before I did polygel, and the activator would cure my base coat brush if I didn't wait until the very end to use the activator before filing, and I waited a few minutes after applying the activator to let it go all the way through the nail to harden it, I and it didn't come off in chunks and I was able to use an e-file! Your nails turned out really great even with all the issues!!! :)
