Sadly this vid is in mono...nevertheless it sounds awesome...enjoy
the late 80 Gadd...and his fantastic band.
tomgadd
All bass players can only dream of playing with Mr Steve Gadd.
If you listen closely, you can hear a melody on the hi-hat...! Like they're talking whispering secrets in the background. Truly beathaking!
As usual, Steve and the crew, takin us all to church, just let this soul stirring music move you and feel the love!
This song is so smooth that I almost melted right out of my chair. Perfection.
I totally felt the same way ,great description. I loved the grove but the drum solo threw me off that joyful groove. Just started listening to jazz etc.. and understand this drummer is good. My opinion don't hate.
this to me is the quintisential drum solo by Gadd or anyone, this how you solo this is pure magic without the tricks just pure driven talent....
And NIGHT-SPRITE on Corea's "The Leprechaun" ;-)
wow! I was born the same year this was recorded... I have lots of catching up to do. Very inspirational player Steve Gadd is.
RIP Cornell Dupree and Richard Tee, you are the real funk brothers!
Glad I came across this one. big fan of all, especially Steve, Richard and Cornell's work with Stuff. Use to hang at Mikell's on 97th and Columbus just to see them. First time was in 1975 when I was a skinny 65 year old kid. What groove they had.
me too, when i was a skinny 17 year old kid
you were 65 in 1975? damn you must 108 years old right now!
Pure gold!
Wow fantastic.
Très belle chanson 🙏
Steve Gadd: Gracias.
hey sound good cool grooving.
RIP Richard Tee, RIP Cornell Dupree..Thanks for sharing your talent with us..
Pacolo Dukol.... amen to that brother 👍
Thank you.
Superb!! ❤
cornell dupree. what a smooth beast.
Duncan Booth yes
Yes
I've never seen a drum solo as buttery as that, what an awesome sound.
Yeah, sure.
Pfff.
Richard Tee fantastic
oh nice groobe I like it!
IT IS "MOST COOL" JAZZMUSIC!!!!!!!
Gadddddd...🥁

#stevegadd #drums #drummer #drumming
Gadd lo mas ..coco zappa
Richard Tee @3:18 🤩🥰😍
Ya know, you're having' a good time, enjoying the great ensemble, and then 6:10 happens....
Ludicrous!!!!
Looks like Rocky Balboa playing the saxophone
Nicholas Dentato yeah man... Rocky... One thing...Too tall...."Rock Too Tall" on Baritone sax
Nicholas Dentato //68+
?
Hilarious
i personally prefer jojo mayer and dave weckel playn drums. I know steve gadd has played with everyone but maybe its just me but I find his style really drab. my hero wud have to be david garibaldi out of tower of power he colors everything up really well. hes the man.
What most musicians don't know is...Steve Gadd had the best company to learn from when he was younger....Art Blakey...Max Roach would stay at his family's home whenever they were in Rochester back in the day....
I saw this and somehow remembered it. When the camera changed to the first wide shot, I realized it was because I was there!
I was hired as a sideman by the band that opened for this night, Blues & R&B night, I think they called it. Albert King closed the show. I was a guitarist but am a fan of masters of any and all instruments, and Steve Gadd was a particular favorite. It was amazing to find myself in the company of an idol, and to hang out with him and Cornell Dupree and Richard Tee and Ronnie Cuber! I never dreamed I would see this, didn't even notice is was being filmed. For this to suddenly pop up 30 years later (for me) is completely mind blowing.
Awesome story....God bless!
You're lucky to have been there and to still be here. Those were some crazy days back then.
Yea GOD BLESS
That’s awesome!! Gadd is the best play with perfect space drummer of all time!
That must have been a great delight.
KANE PARANIHI you better get your pulse checked and hearing because if you can't dig Gadds Drumming then you got a hole in your soul Man He lays down such a DEEP in the POCKET Groove WECKL and MAYER ARE GREAT But Can't lay down that GROOVE OF GADD
Good Lord...that Gadd solo...with those sensitive touches. He follows that rhythm so close...he's playing the tune and melody all by himself
One of the few drum solos that remembers the song that is being played. Fantastic.
Haha This drum solo has literally every Gadd signature lick in it. Love.
If there really actually were a musical showdown to take place between human beings and the devil, I think I would want this team to be the humans. They would just handle it.
That's great! I totally agree with you. I just love Steve Gadd. His brain is on a whole other level.
Cornell Dupree's ability to seamlessly blend into the background, yet adding flavorful licks to the composition is just simply Legendary.
Steve Gadd, Cornell Dupree and Richard Tee were all members of a band called Stuff which also featured Chris Parkar on drums and Eric Gale on guitar. They were superb live. Saw them numerous times in NYC.
As much as I like seeing guys like Neil peart and Dave weckl I really enjoy straight grooving like this from Gadd! Just keeping that rhythm going!
Richard was so Gospel (RIP).
What a fantastic groove!!!!!
This is the most understated drum solo I've heard. Not flashy or over the top, but amazing control and subtlety. And I love Richard Tee's piano playing. It's likewise not flashy, but carries a lot of strength and harmonic power.
Richard Tee is one of my favorites players. Very tasteful playing and excellent/unique voicings and rhythms! Gadd is on fire!
I more than agree. It's gospel piano style in its most perfect form. So wonderfully uplifting.
...hey tomgadd; do you have the 'STUFF' version of Jesse Ed Davis' 'Natural Anthem' !?! Post it if you do, Please. They kill it !
Thank-You Mr. Steven Gadd , from All the awesome chops i learned from you ,, and taught other prize winning drum students as well .You are
the Master of funky linear ( spelling ) groove artistry . You wrote the book of the subject ! And david garibaldi . :)
Like his solos better with someone else pointing out the rhythm. Hard to keep my own click track going on my head, when its JUST Steve - going crazy
one can easily see why steve was one of buddy's favourite drummers
That's great. I hear Buddy is one of Steve's favorites.
If you scroll through these comments you will notice some by a man who is maybe a little too enthused about JAZZMUSIC!!! THEJAZZ!!
That's funny. He can't help it he has the same name as Mike Pence almost. So he's an easy target.
THE JAZZ. THE JAZZ Haha.
This guitar work is from another planet.
I watched Cornell, Purdie and Chuck Rainey about 17 years ago. I watched Gadd twice but in the back band on Clapton Live. So Gadd played just gentle performance.
This is the best solo I've ever seen!!! I'm covering amazing tunes by guitar in my channel!!!
Could there be anyone cooler that Ronnie Cuber?
What a great Band and all of them are so good the late Richard Tee, Cornell And Steve Gadd !!!Eddie Gomez !!!Stuff !!!!
It's not stuff without Eric gale and Gordon Edwards.
Great groove, Gadd on fire as usual! 6:02
That's what you call a groove - a railroad track groove. Wish the audio was a little better but the listener gets the idea. Stevie Gadd just boxes & jabs his tail off.
Your hipster talk is too much for me.
Man that shit was Bumpin bro. They in the Grove
Gadd you dirty dawg! Awesome
Thank you for this video and identifying the band members. Very much appreciated.
any one of those guys can groove on their own, together its in another world!
This is just fantastic. I was alive and listening to music in 1989, but would have completely missed this one at the time. A master class of a simple standard progression in the hands of masters. Beautiful.
Great groove
My god!!! His groove is so comforting always. It’s indescribable but it fucking always soothes and pumps me up!!
Rocky Too Tall on Baritone sax 😆 Richard Tee's The man... This has the core of "STUFF".... Gaddism Funky Hi hat snare with quick double with ONE pedal on z bass drum!!!! Yeah man
Gadd is just so tasty. EVERY chop is actually saying something and not just fast for the sake of speed. He also doesn't need to twirl or throw his sticks in the air!
Good drummers don't show off, they just play with excellence!!!!!!
Very smooth. They sooth the soul.
OH MY GADD
LOVED the Gadd Gang when they came out in the late eighties and in particular this solo. If you like Steve Gadd's style, find this project. Lots of great innovative solos that will stick with you and get stuck in your head. Some seem so damn simple but the nuances and, for me anyway, my inability to emulate them would drive me to practice many many hours until I had it and could work around the kit with them. This guy helped me grow so much as a drummer and musician.
Well said, you've inspired me to check out Gadd Gang. Where is a good place to start? I love Gadd obviously, and am aware of Richard Tee through Paul Simon, what record should I get first?
this man and the whole band sounds very authentic ....... cool indeed
All Gadd stuff WoW , but especially that fill at 7 min 15 🙀!!!
the best of the best
rip Richard Tee
great band
Steve loved him.
Legend
Just grooves along with legendary ease!!! Superb.
beautiful.... love the depth.. the layers... of notes.....
I love how Ronnie Cuber (sax) goes for it!
THERE "IS A LOT" OF JAZZMUSIC!!!!!!! IN THIS VIDEO! AND THE JAZZMASTERS!!!!!!! OF THE "HALLOWED" JAZZMUSIC!!!!!!! TO BE PRECISE!
Steve Gadd's drum solo is unbelievable.
The sax is so raunchy and Gadd seems in the thralls it’s so sweet and fun.
A "MOST COOL" JAZZMUSIC!!!!!!! FESTIVAL ANNOUNCER AT THE BERN JAZZMUSIC!!!!!!! FESTIVAL! AND "ONLY" THE JAZZMUSIC!!!!!!! FESTIVAL!
All heavy hitters.
THE JAZZ! THE JAZZ! THE JAZZ! THE JAZZ! THE JAZZ! THE JAZZ! THE JAZZ!
Oh, what a groove…just fantastic.
Gadd; a true monster and innovator to be sure.
this groove is so good
This is Steve's video tombstone. Just loop the groove from the end of Ronnie's solo... I'm pretty sure he'd be happy with that. (Hoping that you become the Guinness Book Of Records "Oldest Man On Earth", Mr.Gadd...)
i like this way back home, its so sweet to my ear, I TO SEE STEVE GADD IN PERSON hehe
It really was a fantastic one
dupree -- a supremely witty mammal. we miss you, my friend.
THE "MOST WONDERFULL" JAZZMUSIC!!!!!!!
Groove meisters - every one of 'em.
Great Band. Love. Cornell but I really Miss the genius Eric Gale who completely invented a new snap and tonality to the Hollow Body like an L 5. Ronnie Cuber the finest Baritone Player of his time it a hard instrument to play ( listen to the George Benson Cookbook on CBS Columbia to hear Cuber blow his lungs off the planet)
Hey guys, can you do something to carry us out for about 9 minutes?
Ok, we'll think of something....that'll do, you passed the audition.
Je ne savais pas
Steve just loves the ratamacue it's his signature shtick
love it, great performance!
Oh My Gadd!
The solo was amazing. Very tasty, very enjoyable.
It's late, what a way to end a day
Its a bit subtle compared to the others but Cornell Dupree has some really soulful licks
Amazing version, thank you so much!
They are ALL masters!!!!!!
Steve Gadd is not a drummer. He is a MUSICIAN who plays drums.
Steve grooved the fk outta his drum solo!
Was this the extended version of the Alf series theme?
Hahahaha
