We don't see a person with a puppet on the stage; we see two separate beings who behave independently from each other. Even at the song's climax, as Edna is singing her heart out, Darci appears as just an innocent bystander listening and reacting to Edna. The illusion is so powerful that we have to keep reminding ourselves that the puppet isn't actually singing or moving on its own. It's all Darci. What she does takes serious skill, and she does it so gracefully. So gracefully, in fact, that it appears effortless.
I absolutely agree. Darci seems to 'switch' between herself and the puppet and somehow 'is' the puppet once the puppet starts to 'sing' Look at the small but important movements when Edna sings. Draci makes the chin 'vibrate' and this gives the impression as if Edna really sings. Also, right after Darci went back on stage and Ty said that Simon is bright red Darci looks at Edna, Edna 'looks' at Darci and both seem to nod to each other. This takes just a second or two, but IMHO this really shows how Draci interacts with her puppets.

Add to that a great sense of humor and she is what AGT is about. No one should beat her, however the way the judges are pushing for Mandy, she might.
She is super talented. But um... Definitely not the best ever. As a ventriloquist, Terry Fator comes to mind. Terry is on a different level. Terry has much cleaner acts, plus is an excellent singing impersonator. I'll give Darci 2nd best ventriloquist in any competition though.

(The reinterpretation, itself, was worth the price of admission.) Darci has Edna tell a story with the lyric, not just sing it out mindlessly. There is also the spot-on acting of Darci Lynne. Notice her shrugging it's-not-my-fault body-language apology as she approaches Simon with Edna and how she places the puppet near Simon until the line "I just want to be close to you" which cues Edna's move to Simon's shoulder. Brilliant! She is so into character that when Simon asks Darci what "her name" (i.e., Edna's name) is, Edna answers for herself. After all, she is no object, no collection of materials. By song's end, Darci has performed the best magic that AGT has seen this year. She has brought a puppet to life and imbued it with more personality than most of us can muster. How much of this is coached and how much is natural talent, I don't know. What I do know is that she has loads of talent and sophistication well beyond her years to be able to be totally composed while reducing a grown man to blushing. She's in total control of her singing, of her own reactions, of her puppet, of her song interpretation in the service of her puppet's character. Actors, singers, and other puppeteers could all learn from her. The rest of us can all enjoy her. I hope to see a lot more of her. She is, to my thinking, phenomenal. The ONLY off moment was delightful and revealing. After the act and judging were complete, a final compliment is offered and Edna says "Thank you" in Darci's voice whereupon, for one fleeting moment, Darci loses a tad of her composure and cringes a bit. Great analysis! IMO, it isn't even that important what pieces of the performance were coached and what were totally Darci's ideas. Darci made it seem all hers. Darci Lynne was one of my favorite acts in AGT of all time. I could watch her talent for hours. At 12 years old, to have such a sophisticated sense of humor is incredible! I knew that she would win that season during her first performance with Petulia, the bunny.

That's what I thought too. That little bit where she walked from the stage to where Simon sat, singing, and controlling the puppet the whole time in rhythm with the song is very easy to overlook, but required a lot of concentration and coordination to do. I be shocked if she didn't win this whole thing.

Wow....I wish there was these types of shows when I was younger. I took voice lessons for years and was always told that I could probably go far......
She deserves the win, sure the singers are good but all they do is sing. Her act is unique even with the singing and the way she can do so many voices. I live in Canada so unfortunately cannot vote for her but if I could I would.

Her act has a lot of moving parts; ventriloquism, puppetry, singing, comedy. She masters each of these element. What makes it all come together is her impeccable timing, which in itself is a difficult talent to master.
This girl is incredible. Acting such character when 12 years old, sound so mature and the mature acting.. This is absolute talent... She sings better than most of the singer talent competitors... This is incredible
and she can only get better , sure her video (her audition) she appeared nervous (which is totally understandable) she had to please the judges to make the show..but now you can see that she's much more relaxed and more confident and that lets her talent come out for all to see
I haven't seen so much talent in a kid this young in a long time. I am a 60 year old man and I actually have to fight back tears. If you knew my history, you wouldn't believe that either. People, you have got to vote for this young lady. She is better than any dog act or anyone else in the contest. Just amazing!!!

The fact that she chose a well suited classic song we would expect from a grandma. The fact that she maintained that old woman sound all through the singing! At the same time calculating the timing... Etc Genius!
I think someone helps her with the creative content like song selection and such. The heart attack joke was a very grown up one and I got the impression that she didn't understand it so I'm thinking she has help- maybe less so as she gets older.
She just got better at every performance, no wonder she won the show. Having help or not... Her talent made it happen. Congratz Darci, well deserved prize you got.

folks, I have watch this clip of Darci a couple of times now ... The second time thru i watched the audiences reaction ( especially ) those in the front row ,behind Simon . The look on their faces when Darci brings "Edna" down from the stage and sits her right beside Simon was priceless ..and then when Darci hit that high note , both his and the audiences reaction you could tell that they were all blown away . The icing on the cake was when she made Simon blush bright red . This little girl (keep in mind ,my friends, is only 12 years old) and you can tell that she is smart .. her choice of songs and her routine are spot on ...You thank the person who gave you the golden buzzer(Mel B).. then you go after the head judge (Simon ) . Long gone ! is the shy giggly ..nervous (and for good reason) little girl . What we are now seeing is a relaxed and confident entertainer . Who just told every other contestant ...forget your "A" game , you had better bring your "AAA" game or better .
The reaction of the other contestants is also interesting, the comedian says to the other contestants who is going for second and who is going for third

What I find amazing is that Simon and the Judges watch the PUPPET and not her. THAT is the sign that she is one special entertainer and knows her business.
This and Oscar's first performance are my two favorites. I just love Simon's reaction to Edna and Heidi teasing toward him, and Oscar and Mel with their funny and adorable interactions. Darci is incredibly talented. She's grown up so much, it's crazy.

Some of her puppets where given to her by a retired ventriloquist who saw how good she is and asked to keep characters alive and create news. She's had certainly done that. She is supper talented
they edited a small amount from the reactions. He had his face covered with his hands when they cut to him. Too bad we didn't hear what he told her after she finished when she went up to the stage. all you heard was "let me tell you young lady" then they killed his mic.
I viewed the three performances Darci Lynne did, and I can tell its all her orignal idea. She chosed the song so well and she could carry those songs and lyrics and pitch so well, and that IS TALENT. At this show she selected Arethra Franklin and she was so free in interacting with the four judges, it was unnseen.

There are many good/great singers, but there is a reason that ventriloquism is so rare, and that talent is what puts her over the top, add to that her sense of humor and she's in a league of her own! She's definitely my pick for the million!
She can sing better than Jackie Evacho and also her voice is nicer. Watch her Cinderella contest video where she sings some parts as a coloratura soprano, with little training in no time she could nail queen of night aria from magic flute or later something like that maybe Lucia de Lambermore. And she also can yodel with mouth shut. She is super-multi talented and also smart cause she can impress adults with her jokes only downside is that she is not that shy as she says and she has done many shows/contests already.... But she is my pick for this years AGT winner. PS i am only one in my country who watches AGT :D

Yeah, watch some of her old videos she has serious pipes, like maybe opera level, plus she can yodel, change voices and keys very quickly, sing amazingly while using puppet...real deal. Angelica was really good too but verged on yelling alot imho. Amazing talents for their age.
After the audition Simon said that he will remember her in a week , a month and a year , after this performance he will remember her for the rest of his life! She is a class act the world never has seen before , just incredible! .... Standing ovation after 50 sec into the song ... and i love the smiles on peoples face!
can you see her trying to use more than one puppet in the final? maybe have them on a high wall Sesame Street style or in chairs. The big problem would be moving the hands around.
I don 't think Darci will win, she deserves to and will get the most votes but because of her age she wouldn't be able to live up to the terms of their contract. Darci is awesome though.

That's what I thought too. That little bit where she walked from the stage to where Simon sat, singing, and controlling the puppet the whole time in rhythm with the song is very easy to overlook, but required a lot of concentration and coordination to do. I be shocked if she didn't win this whole thing.

Her act has a lot of moving parts; ventriloquism, puppetry, singing, comedy. She masters each of these element. What makes it all come together is her impeccable timing, which in itself is a difficult talent to master.

folks, I have watch this clip of Darci a couple of times now ... The second time thru i watched the audiences reaction ( especially ) those in the front row ,behind Simon . The look on their faces when Darci brings "Edna" down from the stage and sits her right beside Simon was priceless ..and then when Darci hit that high note , both his and the audiences reaction you could tell that they were all blown away . The icing on the cake was when she made Simon blush bright red . This little girl (keep in mind ,my friends, is only 12 years old) and you can tell that she is smart .. her choice of songs and her routine are spot on ...You thank the person who gave you the golden buzzer(Mel B).. then you go after the head judge (Simon ) . Long gone ! is the shy giggly ..nervous (and for good reason) little girl . What we are now seeing is a relaxed and confident entertainer . Who just told every other contestant ...forget your "A" game , you had better bring your "AAA" game or better .
The reaction of the other contestants is also interesting, the comedian says to the other contestants who is going for second and who is going for third

This and Oscar's first performance are my two favorites. I just love Simon's reaction to Edna and Heidi teasing toward him, and Oscar and Mel with their funny and adorable interactions. Darci is incredibly talented. She's grown up so much, it's crazy.

I viewed the three performances Darci Lynne did, and I can tell its all her orignal idea. She chosed the song so well and she could carry those songs and lyrics and pitch so well, and that IS TALENT. At this show she selected Arethra Franklin and she was so free in interacting with the four judges, it was unnseen.

Watch her Cinderella contest video where she sings some parts as a coloratura soprano, with little training in no time she could nail queen of night aria from magic flute or later something like that maybe Lucia de Lambermore. She is super-multi talented and also smart cause she can impress adults with her jokes only downside is that she is not that shy as she says and she has done many shows/contests already....
