And I'm from Finland. Many of us finnish folk know her because of the Gathering. Our most famous band globally is Nightwish and the Gathering and Anneke were in the middle of the 90's one the big reasons this female fronted heavymetal scene got popular. They, alongside with early 90's gothic/doom metal with this "beauty and the beast" image paved way for it. Unfortunately The Gathering didn't suit that image, but Anneke is still often mentioned as "mother" of those more famous singers.

...it's obvious that an artist will experiencie in music making and it has happened with many muscicians, but that doesnt mean it has to be dissaponting. Finally she's just Anneke and not the ex the gathering....and we can appreciate she's loving what she does.
Don't put words on my mouth. If Anneke wanted to keep making metal, she sure would have done it. If I was a singer, I'd feel SAD for "fans" who think I'm limited to one style and don't like to see me find my voice doing things I like, they're not MY fans, they simply like the style. If you only see "emptiness" on works like In Your Room, then go back to The Gathering. I RESPECT Anneke for being a singer who loves what she does, not as a metal singer, it's too narrow. THIS is what I've said.
While some need to "deal with her new direction" others need to stop complaining about why people dislike the new album. It's not about"heavy stuff" vs. "pop stuff", it's about quality. And some people are clearly unhappy with the QUALITY of the songs. Anneke doesn't need everyone to like her songs, but as a long term fan, I feel the right to express my opinion and I think the point of having a "comment" option is to express it, wether you like it or not.

I agree with Franz2099 . I have been a fan of Anneke's for over 15 years and yes, the work she is doing now, while perhaps more personally fulfilling to herself to the radio, comes nowhere close to the pure musicality and emotion of what she achieved with The Gathering. That being said, this is the best song on her new album, and the best since she went solo (not including her work with Devin Townsend - which is phenomenal). In comparison, however, The Gathering continues to put out REAL music.

Her vocal discipline is quite awesome(especially in her collaborations with Devin Townsend). Her style is also quite good :3
Anneke is an incredibly versatile singer and I've only just come across her talents recently but the one thing that makes her talent even more grand is the fact that no matter what style of music she sings in she smiles while singing ! Anneke's talent is only surpassed by her ability to smile while singing!!

Anneke is always looking for her own voice, but I think most people don't realize she shines everywhere, from metal to pop. A "talent wasted", to me, is a talent trapped by so-called "fans" that insist to claim their "style" is the best. To hell wth you. She SINGS, period.

You’re welcome. Been listening to the Gathering & Anneke for a few years now and I also like Arjen Lucassen, Devin Townsend and Anathema and Anneke has done collaborations with all of them. Actually now I'm looking forward for her next record with Devin, called Epicloud, the first one, called Addicted! is one of my favourite records.

Just had the great chance of seeing her show last night in Bucharest... This show was the most sincere one i've ever experienced, and i got to plenty other shows... She's amazing, she wore this great smile on her face during the entire show. She stole my heart... I really hope to see this great woman again. I kind of listen to her music every day. I am almost obsessed. I do agree with you my friend that her music is unique, the style is unique, this song is soooooooo unique that can easily be paralleled to heavy classics like The Police, Annie Lennox, Kravitz, Boston, ELO and so on. It is actually the essence of her style that makes every single movement of this song such an enthusiastic experience, and above all an experience that is cathartic for the mind and upeasing for the human Soul...

How long has it been since Anneke's choice for her own road? 4 years and a bit... Why still moan about the Gathering? People change, and when I look at the music Anneke gave us the last couple of years it is good change. Wouldn't have wanted to miss those cozy lil frail gigs.
Being in key and time does not mean everything is ok; those are not the only aspects one takes care of when it comes to make music.

Her voice gets better and better, it doesn´t matter what style of music she sings, she breathes music! This is pop, sure, but this kind of pop is better than most of all saingle-charts-trash.

Yes she is, she even play the guitar with the gathering in songs like Black Light District, On most surface or acoustic ones like my electricity, with agua de annique she sometimes plays the keyboard (Wonder or Day After Yesterdey) and since her housband is drummer i supose that she learned from him
