Hey I have a p0012 code but I did an oil change and new oil filter but there's a sound not as a knocking on idle but as a press on the gas it makes this noise.. like it's a muffler issues any idea what's the problem
Hello, this code is triggered by a faulty intake camshaft position actuator solenoid but we suggest to start inspecting for any wiring issues (going from the solenoid to the ECM and wiring harness to the intake camshaft position sensor).
Steve I have 2011 cx7 2.3T that was running awful. Mazda diagnosed as needing new injectors and fuel rail. My independent shop did this work. It seems to run smooth now but I'm hearing some noise they attribute to timing chain and the P0012 code is on. Any idea why? Or what to check? Replacing timing chain at 86k seems extreme
I just purchased a f150 with the 5.4 3 valve motor. The motor sounds great with no noise whatsoever however I do have a couple issues and codes coming up. I am constantly getting a p0012 error code and a cylinder 3 misfire code constantly I also get a p0016 error code that is intermittent. I have checked oil and changed the coil but still have a number 3 misfire and getting the codes.

Is it important to use valve cleaner and not any other kind of cleaner? I just bought a can of throttle body cleaner. Do auto parts stores sell valve cleaner?
Hi Brad, we recommend using the valve cleaner as each of these cleaners has a special active solvent for cleaning typical dirt and deposits. Some auto parts sell it, or you may order it online.

Hey, I changed my oil less than 3k miles from Walmart, synthetic one. I change the oil control valve-vvt and Camshaft position sensor, still my 2006 Toyota Corolla LE giving this code. I checked the oil level, it's low, can it be the reason for the code?
Hi Aciga, we suggest checking the wiring first (wiring going from the solenoid to the ECM). Also, the wiring harness to the intake camshaft position sensor for poor connection. If no issues found, then either the actuator solenoid could be bad or your engine oil is dirty/low.
Hi I have a mazda cx7 2008 2.3L grand touring that's throwing this code. We've changed the oil and oil filter, replaced the camshaft Phaser, and the camshaft oil control valve sensor is brand new... I'm not sure what to do at this point.
@@nondainc the timing chain just got redone before the code, it's all in correct time. We just checked the wiring and it has full power at 12 volts to the solenoid
Hi Cosmin, please check the valve train for sludges and check the bank 1 intake camshaft oil control valve. If the valve is functioning well, it should click when you supply power and ground to the solenoid quickly using a pair of fused jumper. If it doesn't click, then you may have to replace the tested oil control valve. Test drive and see if the issue will still persist.
Am having the same fault code p0012 on 2011 Camry ,I check de Mechanical timing is ok, vvt sensor is working, ocv filter is clean,I changed ecm still de same fault code it come ,I need help from you Engenier
@@nondainc I changed the oil with new filter still de same fault code, if I use scan tool to command vvt sensor especially the intake side instead the engine has to change to rough idle,nothing happen like that but exhaust side works perfect when I use scan tool to command the exhaust vvt sensor,
since oct last year this code went on 3 times and i drive every day , went of today while Pushing my acceleration at around 80 miles an hour... one time it happened when I was parked at idle ... I'm not 100% sure if the other codes were a P0012 code .. But this latest time I had my radio hooked up that has an OBD sensor attachment on it that tells me what code it is and then I can reset right from the radio... so I reset it hasn't come up in another hundred miles... I'm sure I need an oil change haven't changed it in the past six months but the oil still looks OK ....not great but OK..
Hello, please note that incorrect oil and using too thick oil could cause this code and may cause multiple codes along with it. You should change the oil and the filter to the proper oil viscosity for the engine's specification. Regularly checking the engine oil level and condition is recommended.
Hello. Someone ran my car hot and blew the head gasket. I tore the engine apart replaced and reinstalled. I have great compression,I got spark, and fuel. When I went to crank it now I'm getting immobilizer system lock and codes 0012&0882? Any help would be awesome.
@@bradr.4355 For Bank 1 is that the intake? I have the exact same code on my car, did you change the cam position sensor or the VVTI Solenoid? Because both of these can cause this code to come up
Hi John, please make sure that the engine oil is full of clean correct viscosity oil. Check the timing chain and also, please do a thorough inspection for any problems with the wiring or connections to the components.

Hi Paul, checking the condition of the Intake Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid and the engine oil/oil viscosity is suggested.

@@nondainc Thanks. All I did was remove the valve and spray the screen on the end with the throttle cleaner. Solved the problem.

I even change my oil control valve of VVT. It's still showing the code. I had my oil changed at 196k and it's been less than 3k miles.

Hello, have you double checked if there's any other fault codes that register along with P0012?
@@nondainc That's the only one. We've cleared it multiple times, done the drive cycle at least 3 times, and the same code keeps popping up honestly
Hello, the timing chain might have jumped a tooth. Also, kindly check the condition of the wiring or connection going from the solenoid to the ECM.

@@nondainc I tested the distribution control valve with two wires and it sounds like it works but the error persists… could it be something else?
@@nondainc the problem is that it interrupts, shakes and while accelerating it cuts the acceleration and increases the consumption a lot

@@nondainc I just borrowed a friend's scanner. My camshaft position sensor on bank 1 was bad so that'll take care of 0012
