Like the history that he gives. Great tips. Thanks. Could you also share tips on how to match shirt designs and colours with tie designs, widths and colours? Thanks!
He's probably talked about knots in another video. As for the tie width, it's best to coordinate it with the lapel. If you're a skinny guy and have a suit with wide lapels, then your tie should be wide, just like the video suggests. The choice of suit is another topic.
Hey I love your videos, but I hate the saxophone in the beginning. I don't know why but your videos are very good and informative! Keep up the good work!
im pretty often called gay and called that im sometimes more girle than the girls because i try to look nice put cream on my face fix my eyebrows and get my feet all fixed up and nice but i like to thank you aaron for showing me how to dress nice and fix your self up! :D
These aren't his thoughts (they're mine, and many others'), but button-down collars are less formal, and should usually not be worn with a suit, but may be acceptable with a sport jacket, and are also okay with a tie. But, once again, they are a more casual look than non-button collared shirts.
Hey..I understand staying away from super skinny but a nice slim tie around 2 inches in max width are possibly a "trend" but still look really smart. I may be biased but a man with an earing in each ear is absolutely a trend. Not having a negative dig..just saying!
I bought a book called 85 ways to tie a tie. Not to cheap, but t´was okay, and it has the history of ties and such, there are no more than twelve or thirteen knots, but several variations. Of the classic three (Four in hand, half and full windsor) The one I´m most seeing the Four-in-Hand lately and GQ´s says it´s in. It´s nice cause it´s a little asymmetrical, but it´s a rookie knot imo, my fave is the half windsor, not as bulky and ¨pretentious¨ as the full, but still shows class and know how!
I'm not Aaron, but in my opinion it should depend on your figure. If you have a wider torso then i say stick with wide to medium. Wide only if you are a lot bigger than normal. Same thing with slim, and skinny ties. If you are a bigger guy for the love of God do not wear a skinny tie (I say don't wear them period anyway). Like Aaron said, it's all about balance when it comes to the tie.
"Too Hell" .. lol These are great vids .. style advice, history, humour, general knowledge, sarcasm wit they've got it all .. and shock horror stun amazed, they are interesting and easy/fun to watch .. Aaron, keep em coming Cheers from the land down under
hey alpha you mentioned in your pants video that you are doing quite a few videos each week. is this website/youtube stuff your primary occupation these days?
One should add that you need to be a rather tall, rather well-built guy to pull off a skinny tie. That's why Taylor Lautner looks so dynamite at 06:04 while any short and/or stocky guy wouldn't.
I'm a lazy guy and I tend to not leave myself time to really get dressed in the mornings. So, as a time saving measure I slip my tie off over my head and leave it tied so all I have to do it put it on and tighten the knot. Is this bad for tie? Be honest, I'm a New Yorker and I can take it right between the eyes. Don't have to wear kit gloves with me. LOL
Aaron, do you think body type has some bearing on which tie width works with an individual? I've seen guys who are really skinny wearing skinny ties and looking good; I have a slightly more muscular frame and any time I've tried a skinny tie it has made me look huge.
alpha m. Hi on what occasions appart from weddings would it be acceptable to wear cream/ivory tie. As i have researched and found that this colour ties are mostly worn at weddings. Thank you in advance
There's nothing worse than trends. I'm 23 years old and I will NEVER wear a skinny tie! Mark my words, skinny ties will be out in the next few years, thank God
HELLO! Thanks for the video, I have a neck tie I would like to sell on ebay and I'm stumo on one of the listing questions. what are the size range for Skinny? Classic? and Wide? and is Classic and Standard are the same? Thanks In Advance! Von
Which colour/pattern of a tie would you recommend for a clean, relatively light lavender coloured shirt? I would like to match that with a pair of charcoal suit pants and charcoal shoes... :)
No! That means you're from one of the top 10 most hated countries, where life sucks, people are one of the worst on earth, and the country is much closer to hell! You can disagree with me, but not with the whole lot that's saying the same thing - it's all over the net!
Ezetman I know this is quite a bit late but it really depends on what your wearing. If your not wearing a jacket, you could go with the slim(2-2.5) or standard (3-3.5) as long as it matches or compliments your clothes. Really personal preference

Greatings from Croatia! I'm so psyched you mentioned Croata (Kravata in Croatian).
I completely agree with you. I hate the skinny ties. Hate 'em. Oh, great F----ing video Aaron. Bravo.
im from Croatia, and i would recommend you check out Croata, they make top quality cravats (ties) if you are interested :)
Hey I love your videos, but I hate the saxophone in the beginning. I don't know why but your videos are very good and informative! Keep up the good work!
Alpha, you got more objective and direct with time. Congrats for that!

Knitted ties are actually pretty "in" right now. I haven't actually seen them worn much, but many style "experts" recommend them.
In Poland we still call it "krawat" :).
Jakub Giel yeah in poland is everything better
in switzerland as well :D
cravate :)
@Cm. Kosmos brate💪
in iran say krawat too :D

Based on your youtube comment I know believe you are smarter than the businessman who made the video.
Keep being superior, brother

The necktie is called a "cravate" in french. We have also kept the tradition :)
I knew of a cravate because it's popular in European weddings that the men wear instead of ties.
The Frenchies have kept the tradition the longest =).
A necktie is a "cravate"
what about when we are not wearing a blazer
"Too Hell" .. lol
These are great vids .. style advice, history, humour, general knowledge, sarcasm wit they've got it all .. and shock horror stun amazed, they are interesting and easy/fun to watch ..
Aaron, keep em coming
Cheers from the land down under
full windsor knot mate. they look the best on wide collar shirts as worn in the video
Agree. I think that the width of the "standard" tie is too big for me. I have a small frame at around 5'6" and the 2"-wide tie seems just fine for me.

Here in England, a cravat is what Aaron described as an 'ascot'. Well done for standing up to the masses of skinny tie wearers! They look appalling.
great info. ....now I wish you would talk about the best brands of ties! as a woman, I'm not hip to all the best tie makers....thanks
Knit ties for the win.
Aaron can you do a tutorial on cool, classy tie knots??
please make video about makeup for men
Hey Aaron, do you think you could make a video showing the differences between dandruff and a dry scalp and how to treat both. Thanks
7:17 shouldn't the lapel width be measured diagonally though, since that is measuring the widest part
also, the necktie in french is cravate
@AlphaMconsulting
I appreciate that the small clock behind you is constantly at 10:20.

Watching this in 2022, so much fun
Lord have mercy, I haven't seen a knitted tie since about 1986!! Do you even still own one of those?!? Do you use it?!?
yeah i've gotta work on that small waist bit...
the necktie is called "krawatte" in germany. we kept that tradition :P
What are your thoughts on shirts with button-down collars? And, more importantly, that type of shirt when worn with a tie?
You should do a video about ascot ties and some great sites where we could get em :DD
I am surprise you dont have a talk show
hey alpha you mentioned in your pants video that you are doing quite a few videos each week. is this website/youtube stuff your primary occupation these days?
Great vid im going shopping tomorrow
Great video
yeah i agree, its wierd since Aaron likes Mad Men!
great advice, alpha
can you also go further in dept about ascots and model a few for us?
since you mentioned about ascot, could you do a video on ascot?
Great shit aaron
Hey aaron, you stated in your video to match your tie width with the lapel width.
Is there a rule for wearing ties without a jacket?
One should add that you need to be a rather tall, rather well-built guy to pull off a skinny tie.

Coolbro in here, thanks alot man
HEY Aaron what do you think about ascots, I adore them!

2019
thx a lot bro!!! this is totally a life saver
thank you for these usefull informations
whats the rule if you are wearing a tie with a shirt and no jacket?
Justin Pratt just as long as it matched or compliments your cloths, you should be ok.
Aaron, do you think body type has some bearing on which tie width works with an individual? I've seen guys who are really skinny wearing skinny ties and looking good; I have a slightly more muscular frame and any time I've tried a skinny tie it has made me look huge.
YEAAAA SAAAN!!! PVP!
what do you think of white ties? can a guy wear them in any occasion?
how does it work if you're not wearing a sport coat? Like what if you're wearing a white oxford with a black leather jacket?
alpha m. Hi on what occasions appart from weddings would it be acceptable to wear cream/ivory tie. As i have researched and found that this colour ties are mostly worn at weddings. Thank you in advance

Loved that wife beater bit at the beginning. I was like no fucking way did he just endorse that look lol
Who is here after Aaron is cool?
Cheesy intro as well, like a 1966 Batman show's transitions
you are the man alpha
Which colour/pattern of a tie would you recommend for a clean, relatively light lavender coloured shirt? I would like to match that with a pair of charcoal suit pants and charcoal shoes... :)
Alpha doesn't like the skinny tie Reservoir Dogs look?!

+A A Omg did you really say that, are you really that stupid...? Lol.
Corbata in Spain, cravate in France, cravatta in Italy .....
thank u mr aaron....
What about pairing a tie only with a vest for summer? My fucking vests do not have lapels.
Glitch in the matrix at 9:23.
my rule of thumb: silk ties only. plain and simple. you can just as easily find a well priced silk tie rather than go *shudders* polyester...
Thank you!
من اول ماسمعته يقول فيميل قفلت الفيديو بعدين شفت اسم قناته الفا😭 كان لازم اعرف انو هذا النوع من الرجال حيطلع لي
I have no doubt that this guy can talk about dirt for hours and hours
Alpha I got a thin one!
where you from btw man?
Heyaaw Aaron, how tall are u?
Actually it works pretty well with a leather motorcycle jacket as well.
My jaw dropped when you cut to you in a wifebeater. Holy shit, your body is a wonderland.
Long neckties were around in the 1880s, not just created in the 1920s
I do it with a suit jacket
This guy is awesome
how about wearing ties without a jacket/sports coat?
Ezetman I know this is quite a bit late but it really depends on what your wearing. If your not wearing a jacket, you could go with the slim(2-2.5) or standard (3-3.5) as long as it matches or compliments your clothes. Really personal preference
The tie was first produced in 1864 not 1920
What tie knot is he wearing?
WhoIsRasmus he's wearing a full Windsor.
Cravat is the french word for necktie....
Or every other day
In Germany we call all ties "cravats", still.
yup, just look back to the 'rat pack' days, and even the mafia image back then. i personally love a skinny tie, in non-business situations
ok I hot it thanks😊
A "cravate " is how we say it in France
lol my dad calls them wife beater shirts as well XD
french it is cravat
Good video! YOU SAVED MY LIFE HAHAH
Croatian trendsetters, that's what's up
Dude I'm Short When I Tie My Tie Its Look Longer, Help Me.
