Sad to say, there's not much of shoe manufacturer now in Markina. There was a shoe store in Baclaran which my mother usually buy shoes made in Marikina. The owner of the shop says, Marikina shoe business is dying. Their shoe maker are now old, younger people doesn't want to work as a shoe maker. They are selling Korean shoes now 😔

Marcos, Estrada and Arroyo. These 3 were taken out from office via 'People Power', dba??! hmmm... Marcos was too smart for the US to handle, they couldn't control the man. Estrada was the stubborn one who goes against everything the US 'asks' him to do. Arroyo made good relationships with China, which is good for The Philippines BUT not necessarily for the selfish interest of the US. Sure 'People Power' made these 3 step down from office, but don't ever forget the role of the US that led to that event. And let's not go into those small oil-rich countries that the US military are now currently being deployed at, coz that'd be whole lot of discussion as well as to what exactly is the role of the US in those oil-rich countries.

at the time of the Marcoses, the Philippines was actually not a poor country, like how that caller pointed out... we were in fact 2nd to Japan at that time. after Marcos was out of Malacanang, the state of Philippine economy went spiralling down.
+Tessa Bella well it's true that we were second to japan around those time we were definitely rich but we were already rich even before Marcos. the exchange rate of the start of the rule of Marcos is around 3.9Php per 1$ at the end of his term it was around 20Php per 1 dollar if you consider that i don't think the Philippine economy went spiraling down after Marcos rule in fact it started during his rule.
though i won't deny we was a good president (at his first term) srly if he didn't do that martial law pretty sure his son is one of the line for the next president.

But during Marcos era Laurel-Langley Act expired that gives our country the main supplier of agricultural products for US. The Laurel-Langley Act was the reason why dollars and peso are not that far. This act made us purely agricultural, making our country to be totally dependent to US, our industrial economy was very small or almost none. When Laurel Langley Act expired in 1975, US changes its economical philosophy and opened their market on other countries, leaving us alone and senseless. That is why Marcos loaned and built numerous infrastructure so that it will boost our industrial economy and preparing our country to be independent from US.
