Land of the Livid dead is very memorable. The Music, the atmosphere, the soundscapes are chilling but calming at the same time. This makes the level one of the best of Rayman 3.
Each time I play to this level it reminds me Brittany through the landscapes, patterns on the building, dolmens... And the music is wonderfull. As a child, I remember I played this level and then stopped moving Rayman just to listen to the music for I knew one day I will not abble to play this game and to listen to its music anymore. Hopefully I was wrong !
I love how they shadow drop the of "THE LAND OF THE LIVING DEAD" a whole level before you get there, purposely dropping you in a murky swap before hand, giving you time to imagine a more evil and scary world, like the cave of bad dreams. but your expectations are subverted when you arrive, and its easily the most beautiful land in the series up to that point. but it makes sense, the land of the afterlife should be peaceful and avoid of fear and harm, a place of rest for those who lived long or didn't last. the land of the living dead is the past ones place to rest in peace.
its not that good in the most important aspect of all though - level design. The atmosphere, writing (mostly) and visual style are all top notch, but level design is a huge step down from r2 which is a shame
@@pawlogates Mmmmmh actually there are a lot of extra stuff hidden here and there to achieve 100% completion. Besides I don't really mind linear either, as long as the game is good, it doesn't bother me more than with extremely linear games like Super Mario.
@@Nonalhomophobie lol the secrets are actually the most disappointing part of the game compared to rayman 2 and especially origina now that its a thing
The music was too spot on, like the Spirit Tower and it's music felt equally strange. So strange that for a few minutes I felt lost and confused, like in a land that just worked differently from the rest of the world. So confused I had no idea I had to climb the tower. Truly magnificent. Let's not talk about the big guy later on, he was big bully.
Everyone is rightfully praising the music here, but I just wanted to say this mix is really well done and I especially love how each song has been purposed to blend into the next as a sort of progression.
always loved how beyond the hilarious snarking of andre and funny moments, rayman 3 felt just as sinister if not moreso than rayman 2 at points and levels like this just proved it, wandering this empty landscape and randomly seeing the hoodlums setting up full on industrial bases in them, that left an influence. Honestly i'd say Rayman 3 was one of the best aging games visually from the 6th gen era, along with other games that still look good today (silent hill, smt nocturne, mgs, others)
nostalgia trip. whenever i played this level as a kid i felt sadness just from the music. desert of the knaaren scared me. (am swedish so as a kid i didnt understand english) so i was just left with the screams of the knaaren. the land of the livid dead gave me a feel that everything was gonna end and it felt sad due to it.

Well Brittany is indeed the inspiration for this place. It's a nice touch considering that Ubisoft comes from there

What a blast listening to these soundscapes, this was and still is defintley my favorite level in Rayman 3!
I feel so stupid to not have realized how good this game is at the time it was released.

@@El_Fabricio extremely linear, underuses platforming elementa and despite linearity is too short (level design wise, story is fine)
