Full coverage of the women's double sculls rowing final from Eton Dorney as part of the London 2012 Olympic Games,
Rowing has been staged at all the editions of the Olympic Games, except in 1896 in Athens. It was, however, on the programme, but a stormy sea compelled the organisers to cancel the events.
Women made their debut at the Games in 1976 in Montreal. They competed in a smaller programme. The Olympic Games in 1996 in Atlanta marked the introduction of the lightweight events.

Met Katherine yesterday and I remember cheering for them both. What a very humbling experience it was to meet a woman who reluctantly agreed to go to try rowing through a friend. True British grit.

Why have these videos been uploaded with a different commentator to originally on TV? The BBC guys not only have more knowledge about rowing but transfer way more passion to the event.

All the videos on the official Olympic channel are from OBS, who provide commentary to those broadcasters who don't have their own teams and who have chosen not to hook up with another broadcaster's feed - can you imagine a broadcaster from a small nation of about 1 or 2 million people sending 50 commentators of their own to the games?
Some countries do deals with the larger broadcasters like the BBC, NBC etc, to use their commentary on audio, but most just take the OBS feed.
Unfortunately, sometimes the OBS commentators are somewhat lacking in knowledge, as with here just talking about the relative positions of the boats and giving nothing regarding stroke rates, synchronicity, cleanliness of catch etc.
It's heard on many of the OBS videos - even the normally affable Barry Davies sounded like he was yawning all the time during the Opening Ceremony (listen to that one and you'll know what I mean).

Jetsumo70 what is the distance , heavyweight means the player bodyweight is heavy or the boat is heavy.

+suman das heavyweight means the athlete themselves are above 75kg ( not sure how accurate that is) amd as gor for distance it is 2000 metres this is for both heavy weight and light weight

+dylon vanderventel lightweight means the athletes are below 59kg and have a boat average of 57kg for the atheles (for women)
