Alex gregory from the gb men's four is a fantastic rower. His technique is fluent and precise, he is very tall with long arms and legs and so has an incredible length, and he hammers off the erg as well! A perfect rower
@@EricAlHarbso the GB crew could boil the kettle, make a cup of tea put their slippers on, sit down and turn on the TV, choose a channel then go to get biscuits before you get to the finish after they did.....😂😂😂
i think if you want a look at GB's best then look no further than alex gregory. incredible length, power and technique, the future of sweep oar rowing.
actually yeah i didn't think about that, which is bad because im a kiwi! but eric and hamish have a very distinctive style, but amazing rythm, and seem to know each other very well, so yes i agree with you on that.
wouldn't work styles are far too different. NZ are flowing and dynamic Hodge and Reed muscle the boat along and are not loose enough. Ginn and Dunkley-Smith would make a awesome 4- with eric and hamish
Wow, I just watched some footage of the 2011 GB 4-. What a shame they had to rip them apart, and just because Hodge and Reed were being annihilated by the kiwi pair. I think this GB 4- with Reed and Hodge wouldn't have won this race if they hadn't had lane advantage... Aussies getting so much more out of their (less powerful) strokes.
Everyone was being annihilated by the kiwi pair, not just Hodge and Reed. I'm sure this 4 with Hodge and Reed won because they were better on the day, I think you're just salty.
yea I completely agree with you! the 2011 GB 4- was far slicker than the olympic 4- Reed and Hodge pretty much ruined what the 2011 4- did and rebuilt it around them. Don't get me wrong they are great athletes but weren't the best fit in my opinion. Greogory rows really nicely and relaxed but I would say Eric and Hamish are the future of sweep oar. They were on another level to the rest of the olympic crews in any event.
I completely agree! Hard thing this sport at the top level. Best rowers need to go into the best boats whether its a good combonation or not. Politics eh
i honestly believe the australian boat rowed better than everyone else on the course but brittain came away with it because of a home course advantage.
Rowing isn't about looking pretty all the time it's about who puts the power down best, examples of this are Abingdon boats in the past decade just some big boys ripping it through
Jason Arteaga Alex is actually right, on the day of the race they changed the order of priority lanes. Usually its the middle lanes to the fastest qualifiers(lanes 5,4,6). But because there was a constant side breeze from the side closest to camera, they changed the order of lanes to fit the fastest qualifiers which were GB lane 6, USA 5, then AUS 4. If it was even conditions could have been a slightly different race. But at the end of the day, its an outdoors sport and stuff like this happens and you just need to deal.
Biggyfootrules This is nothing new, in all regattas they change the lanes to suit the fastest qualifiers (or the highest placing ones) GB had a right to be in a faster lane, even if it was only faster by 0.1 of a second
Biggyfootrules So that is nothing whatsoever to do with "home course advantage" which doesn't exist in rowing and everything to do with the team who qualified fastest getting the best lane. Had Australia qualified fastest, they would of been in lane six. As an aside, prior to the race, the Australian crew had very big mouths about how they were the best etc etc. Well, typical Australian sportsmen, they fail to back it up on the day.
+eyesthatwatch69 judging from the World Cup it will be very close, however, Australia lost by like a bit more than a bow ball even though they caught a crab, so go Aussie!!!
There’s a chance GB won this because of the lane they were given. Wind had been playing havoc with outside lanes during the regatta. GB were given lane 1 which was essentially sheltered From wind the entire way while Australia and others had to deal with wind.
I think the commentator is getting at the fact that they spent most of that olympiad trying to beat Murray and Bond in the pair rather than racing the four.

The mighty dorney roar from that fantastic crowd, an extra man in the boat. Top job from Team GB.
I shouldn't be watching crew while sitting in a rocking chair. I'm about to flip it over.
I was one of those! proud! team GB!!
Great win by the hometown heros! Congratulations from Brasil!
Rio was Pete Reed's favourite Olympics.
To gauge how fast 6.03 is to do 2000 metres. Go sit on a concept 2 rowing machine and try do 2000 metres for time. It’s an epic time.
Rowing on the water at that pace is even more difficult than an erg! Absolute animals
These guys all pull 5:40s on the erg I’m afraid 6:03 on the water in these conditions on this day is much harder
On my concept 2d I can pull it off in 10 minutes
@@EricAlHarbso the GB crew could boil the kettle, make a cup of tea put their slippers on, sit down and turn on the TV, choose a channel then go to get biscuits before you get to the finish after they did.....😂😂😂
Andy Hodge just wouldnt allow the Aussies to break through. What a madman🚀
8 years on I am watching this and shouting at the telly
I WAS THERE!!!!! An amazing, amazing day.
Me too. In the best seat in the house; one that money can't buy - driving the umpire's launch following the A Final. An unforgettable experience.
The guy in the background said that they are going to do the Cha Cha Slide.
lololol 10:11 fail by Australia's 2 seat hahaha

Legendary Drew Ginn
GB only won this because of their lane draw which meant they were the only lane unaffected by wind
haha stay salty aussie, might want to look at medal history for rowing and see why gb won, its in our blood
@@DontTrustAshesFakeVideos which is why is cuts so deep for you to know that 2012 was a Clayton’s gold
@@stevej02 Why would that cut deep when australia has never won 5 golds in a row in rowing? 🤣 Stay salty bruv.
did anyone else notice that the stroke seat in GBR is using *two* rings in his oar instead of one?!
Apparantly it's there to stop Hodge pulling his blade away from the gate when on full power.
is it me or does australia have boat balance issues???
move to 9:20 for the gold final
Tom James is the brother of my ex math teacher back when she was in El Salvador. When I found out I was so happy for some reason :D

I wonder how often cyclists, on the side, run into one another. Looking everywhere, but where their going.
Come here because "the boys in the boat" book.
love that book

12:40 it looks like all of the GBR crew have trouble keeping oars in the oarlock at the release
italy does it everytime
I think Tom James tried a little bit harder than the others in that race ;)

+Tony Lee but you're right, the aussie crew this year are very strong despite that slip up at lucern😉😆
Why does Chris Hodge have 2 collars on the oar's sleeve??
That's pretty rare on a rowing video xD
row row row ur boat gently down the stream
very interest
I thought that was awesome to start with, but the amount of time's I heard the phrase " extra man in the boat " during the olympics ruined it for me.

Shoulda won the semi then eh?..
Alex Gregory has a pretty dirty finish with his outside arm.
