I'll never get tired of watching this race...Cohen and Sullivan, 6'0" and 5'10", beating some of the biggest, most physically-imposing rowers in the world. A lesson in never setting limits for yourself.
Not quite- Sullivan is essentially also 6'0, standing at 5'11.8. But they are definitely a head shorter than the rest of the competitors. Lovely race, great sprint finish!
Here after reading the book "How bad do you want it- Mastering the psychology of mind over muscle". beautiful pacing by the kiwis, overcoming their shortcoming for stroke length with incredible stroke rate. It's not only the anthropometric ability but also the mental ability which needs to work in synchrony to succeed.
Not taking anything away from Cohen and Sullivan, especially as what Sullivan has gone onto achieve with the Americas Cup, but calling that the most memorable event of the decade was a shocker. Typical myopic vision from the Halberg voting panel who can't see past anything that doesn't involve a rowing skiff.
Best race ever. Hadn’t thought about this in years then it just popped into my head. Great watching again. The “little guys” win with exceptional tactics.
Wow. This is on par to be one of the craziest last 500m I've ever seen. (falling short of the final of the M4- in Athens) DAT COMEBACK THO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, it was great! I remember the NZ commentator completely losing his cool when NZ starting making huge leaps. He wa super calm the whole time then all of a sudden went "GO NEW ZEALAND!"
What a sobrenatural final rising of NZL! The first man of the boat (how do you call them in english?) didn´t even realized immediately he has won! Congratulations from Brasil!
Thank you for the information Henry Donald Film! Here in Brasil, we call the first man "voga", although his identification number is higher and the last man "proa", which is identified by the number one. Best regards!

This event was good for that in general. Italian stroke is tiny and Slovenia not gigantic. The biggest guys all missed the podium.
Wow, Gives hope for small guys into their rowing.
Me too. Especially for our small nation x proud x
as a 6'0 rower, really makes me feel more confident stepping into international events next season
MOST INCREDIBLE LAST 500M IVE EVER SEEN
Was it EVER!

Hands down the best moment for NZ at the London Olympics. Still gives me chills watching it now.
@@askhams they were undefeated favourites going in
To who ever wants to give up... Watch this and it will blow you away!!!
Just been voted NZs most memorable sporting moment of the decade!
Awesome race.

@@asterixdogmatix1073 Sporting moment is voted by the public, not the panel.
It's 2021 and am still watching NZ Rowing Team. History in the making.
What an awesome win. from 5th to the gold medal: Brilliant
That's the New Zealan way my brother! We have always punched above our weight. We have accomplished so much for a young country.
This was the race that got me into rowing.
Best race ever. Hadn’t thought about this in years then it just popped into my head. Great watching again. The “little guys” win with exceptional tactics.
Probably best race in the rowing, but in my opinion Marcus Walz in Rio K1 1000 did his race more epic, than those guys
The last 500 meters! Awesome NZL!
This race easily ranks as one of the 5 best moments in modern Olympics history...👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️
Your right I think they are about 5'10", and 5'11" - which disproves a lot of the squad selection policies
Yup, just just row a bit differently
Wow. This is on par to be one of the craziest last 500m I've ever seen. (falling short of the final of the M4- in Athens) DAT COMEBACK THO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
athens was a great last 500m for a different reason, as chasing crews down and coming from behind goes this is the one for me.
Ariel - Cristian un orgullo para todos los argentinos.!!!!!! fuerza Ariel y a seguir adelante
This just won Nz Sporting moment of the last decade.
Great pain face at 10:22. Now that is some intensity getting over the finish line!
Yeah, it was great! I remember the NZ commentator completely losing his cool when NZ starting making huge leaps. He wa super calm the whole time then all of a sudden went "GO NEW ZEALAND!"
i love how the winning team need help out of the boat... they gave it all
And?
Stupendous finish - from 5th to 1st ! Just fantastic!
自分もダブルスカル乗ってるのでとても勉強になりました。
Amazing to see NZ with a shorter but quicker stroke in comparison to the others.
What a sobrenatural final rising of NZL! The first man of the boat (how do you call them in english?) didn´t even realized immediately he has won! Congratulations from Brasil!
the first man in the boat is the stroke, he is closest to the stern and the bowman is closest to the bow
Thank you for the information Henry Donald Film! Here in Brasil, we call the first man "voga", although his identification number is higher and the last man "proa", which is identified by the number one. Best regards!
GO NEWZELAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have to watch twice, amazing pair from NZ
Totally awesome race and win by Team NZ!
that was a fantastic sprint
it was great to watch live for us Kiwis!
500 derniers mètres de folie des NZ...GENIAL

Nathan and Joey u guys r legends.
Wow! A whole boat and a half down at the last 500 meters and they pulled them back !
best finish ever
I'm going to be in the olympics when I'm older
See you there
see you in Tokyo 😉
What happened?
Joseph Sullivan is under 6ft I think O_O
He is about 5.10
This is the most favorite race
NZ!!!! 마지막 500M 보고 팬됬당 😲😎
Last stretch reminded me of xeno muller's win in atlanta.
lol Joseph Sullivan is a firefighter now, another hard job.
He was and now he's a professional sailor for Team NZ in the Americas Cup.
Is it just me or does Sullivan looks like he has really short arms??'
He does, actually, they actually used to call him 'T-Rex' because of it!
Phenomenal, love this race.
WE'RE WALKING
Super interesting to see how Slovenia used up all of their energy and then died after the half way mark, consistency is key in rowing
bravo NZ
Its interesting to see how much shorter Nathan Cohen and Joseph Sullivan are compared to the rest of their competition.
inspirational!!!!!!!!!!
new zealand did great in rowing in theese olympics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stunning.
that wind at the end though
Comeback is REAL...
argentina it's so heard look in the final olympic
Joseph Sullivan is from Picton i thought?
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
where do they find these long rivers lol
NZ: "Turn on the motor in 3, 2, 1 ..." Seriously, I've never seen a comeback like that.
Dobels scol'sd😇😇
all I got to say is the whole race was tough
What a race
Nz on topppp
7:00
Those Impaxers are epic
Empachers?
Worst rowing commentary ever
I watched this like what are yas doing you bloody useless 😂 I didn't know about that sprint the end strategy 😂
10:16 is why I pump iron!
if in doubt, put a bit of lad on.
3:10
go nz!
It would have been funny if one of the rowers caught a crab as the slowed down
Il top
Perro levante
Most rowers are at least 6 ft.
..?k
Anyone else here because of “How Bad Do You Want It?”?
Yes. Great book.
If Sartori hadn't looked to the sides so much at the end, causing mistakes and boat speed to decrease, maybe Italy could have won...
Terrible commentary at the end he didn’t know the kiwis were leading
And even if it was a river, 2k isn't exactly long.. for a river.
Nz only
the untrained call it inspirational...the grinders and ones who push it to the limits day in day out after each failure call it strategy.
Top race from New Zealand ! But please don't show this to young people...they is one of the worst rowing techniques I have ever seen on that level...
Is that the winning technique from the small guys.....?
Dudes just got small arms
worst commentary for what was an incredible race
✊🏿
Look at those kiwis fly
lol why are they all so handsome??????????!
Rowing Crew from Ireland!
Jes Rowing Crew 2012/13
they look like those bugs that walk on the water
Yep I know the ones.
Is it just me or are Slovenia's oars really skinny

if it werent for italy, new zealand wouldnt have won because theyre rowing a italian boat; the Filippi Italia S
My coach made me watch this because it's his favorite race and my double partner and I still don't really know why he had us watch this
🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿
I want one of those Slovenian unis
