After my second Duran movie '40 Years of Hysteria' managed to outline the iceberg, this film was made in an attempt to fill in some the gaps a bit more. I wanted to show to an uninitiated audience what kind of legacy the band has, along with some recent highlights. Because fans love and deserve it, even if I had to make the film myself!
This is the third film in this Laughing With... trilogy. It is meant to be funny, but I always shed tears during these films, especially at the very end, with the fireworks.
**Timeline History**:
**2022
31 Jan - Started to collect clips for this project almost immediately after my second DD movie, from leftover scraps, and tons off cut scenes. This film originally had a working title of 'DD Madness'. Roger mentioned in an interview that it was the Japanese gameshow which made him go crazy, so this is shown periodically throughout; like John and Simon in the other two videos, but not as chapter points this time, because Roger left the band during the middle chunk of it. The original idea was to show the crazy moments, like Nick getting high before the Joan Rivers show, etc, but this idea was quickly scrapped.
7 Mar - Started editing the clips. Everything was mostly arranged in historical order. The main focus is on John this time, including some clips while outside of the band.
10 Oct - The V1 edit is 95% finished, although some clips will be reshuffled.
1 Nov - Created a montage of silly images for the Titles, and also a spread of magazine covers. I found a clip of George Martin talking about The Beatles, and about fame and 'the roundabout'. This was so uncanny that it went into the film, with The Reflex playing in the background. The magazine covers image was used as the backdrop, with a selection of 'Look-in' cartoon comic strips placed over the top. I used to buy 'Look-in' back in the day, and had these same comics!
21 Dec - Rendered V1 for the 3 Kickstarter backers. There were two copyright issues. One was because I used an official DD promo video at the start of the film, and the other was from the B*IT awards. Sent out V1 to Backers, and various people on DD Proboards Message Board as a PM.
31 Dec - V1.2 - Replaced the copyright DD video clip at the start with a montage of the band, but kept the audio as before. Swapped in some singing and running clips of the BR*T awards to go over the top of that interview, but kept the audio.
**2023
18 Jan - V1.3 - Added the Times Square NYC event at the end of the film. Added maybe 10 more clips, including John saying it is "too early" for sex in Japan. Rendered off version 1.3, but still one copyright issue with the BR*T awards, this time for the first clip in the film. I added another montage here, but kept the audio. So now the film opens with TWO montages of the band! The end credits still roll around the 3hr mark as intended, but now the film goes over by a few mins.
22 Jan - Rendered 1.4b. (took 5hrs 40mins to render). Replaced a clip of Nick talking about copyright theft on the end credits, with the audience singing Happy Birthday to Simon badly out of sync, which now cuts to the lip synch joke.
7 Feb - Rendered 1.4e - Changed the ending credits clips again, this time a montage of the bands videos is replaced with a young clip of Simon. Added four more sing-along clips for the encore. Various tidying up of edit points for a smoother cut. Added clip of Warren during the 2000 HBO special, complaining about having a funky speaker.
12 Feb - Rendered V1.4f, rev2. Final version. Some copyright issues remain due to using Jonathan Ross etc, but no Content Blocks anymore. Started working on the English subtitles.
18 Mar - 50% of the subtitles are now done. Working on them two hours per night.
20 Apr - Finished the subtitles and released the movie before the band's 2023 tour.

1984...when I first know of Duran Duran.. I was only 17yo. Stuck with me through high school, first year uni life far away from home.. Went overseas still with DD accompanying me till my master degree in Architecture in 1990 to 1991..became an Architect, a business owner, a mom and.. . Ffwd to 2024.. Now I'm at DANSE MACABRE.. love at first sight n sound, never fades away. Now my daughters 30 & 25 Listen to DD.. so Simon WAS RIGHT.. They're still around, whilst those who were jealous of them aren't no more.
Wow! Love at first sight and Sound never fades,I like that. I commented almost the same thing just not as eloquently. I also passed my love of DD down to my daughter. She recently took me to their show, as the band began to play (& I began to Sing & Scream) I caught my daughter glancing at me queerly I later asked what the looks were for, She replied "Mom, everytime I turned to look at you it was as if you morphed into teenage fandom". I told her thats awesome! That that is exactly how they make me feel inside and it thrills me that it shows on the outside!
Duran Duran aren't your typical boy band, so I never thought of them as band for girls, surely great music, like what they make, appeals to everyone equally.
They have grown up lovely haven't they.?
This video came up in my recommendations and I clicked it thinking I'd watch about 20 minutes. It's now after 5:30AM and I watched the whole thing. Thank you so much for putting this all together; this was a total joy to watch ❤️❤️

I’m less than an hour in, and can I just say - this video is an absolute goldmine! DD in their prime, and lots of clips I’d never seen. Thank you for taking the time not just to mine clips from a zillion places, but to lovingly weave it all together into a compelling journey, even overlaying audio in places. And the title Only Five to Blame (riffing off of one of my DD faves) is just icing on the cake.
Thanks you so much PC. I was worried that this movie might not be as fun to watch as the 40 Years of Hysteria and original Laughing with DD movies. I tried to pack it out with ultra rare clips, and some of these were missing from youtube for a while. It's not as funny but hopefully it stands as a fitting tribute.

I don’t know how I haven’t seen this before now!! A friend of mine sent this to me insisting I watch it asap! I found out why at 2:20:16!! It was a quick shot of me backstage in 2006 when Simon was signing my pic. I never realized my head snapped up that quickly when JT walked up!! 😂 My bff was next to me waiting on Simon. He signed her portrait tattoo of him after he finished signing my pic. She was so ecstatic! It was a fantastic night!! I have a pic of him signing her tattoo, but I really wish I had video of that too! I lost her last year after a sudden illness. We met back in high school in ‘83 because of DD and became instant besties! I’ll be forever grateful to them for bringing her into my life and I’ll be eternally grateful to Simon for the insurmountable happiness and endless smile he put on her face that night! Thank you for this phenomenal compilation @lifeschool!! It was a wonderful walk down memory lane!! And that quick snippet was definitely the cherry on top for me!! ❤❤❤
Are you the lady in red? She did a double take on seeing JT, so not quite a snap. A very touching story. It's always a pleasure to hear from fans seen in these videos. A few fans from my previous project '40 Years of Hysteria' got in touch to say hello, but I think you're the first one for this film. It's only been out for a couple of months, and it was meant to promote this 2023 tour anyway. It's a shame the band don't do these signings anymore, as most of them just get put on ebay. At least you have some treasured and unique memories on film forever. !

Yes, I guess I covered the radio shack event with my Laughing With and also 40 Years of Hysteria movies. For this one, I wanted to show rare clips rather than the usual news clips, so I guess it got left out of this one.

I Love that Simon points out that Duran Duran didn't get the same respect as other bands because the majority of their fanbase were female (is that to say females arent capable of musical discernment?)I often took flack (mostly men) bc of my intense admiration for them and their music leading credance to what Simon was talking about. We (the BAND & the FANS) got the last laugh! Duran Durans 50th anniversary will be coming up in a couple years & I am proud to have been "with"them since the beginning!

They were kids shows, made for kids to watch. I watched them. It was like an extended version of Saturday Morning Cartoons, only with different live things going on. Nickel Odeon is wasn't.
It was only fitting they were on Miami Vice…… that show was the “Duran Duran” of tv shows💯
It goes further. Don Johnson said the baggy jackets , headbands and especially the rolled up sleeves came from DD. Not to mention the pastel blue and pink of miami vice was inspired by the Rio cover. So it cuts both ways.

No, I don't think we can all agree, actually.
Of course, the band had its create zenith with the original lineup in the 80s. I am a big Duran fan, & it would've been great to keep the original line up, but obviously that didn't happen.
Warren effectively kept the band afloat, & wrote their 2 biggest hits of the 90s.
If anything, he should be involved today, & not Dom, the session guy, who doesn't actually pay tribute correctly to the guitarists who came before him. (He plays the Ordinary World solo(s) without finesse, fluidity, or even as they were written.)
Each to their own I guess.

I Loved DURAN DURAN Since '81 & My Love DURAN DURAN 2 The Day! I Appreciate Them & Their Journey & What They Have Meant 2 The Fans! They Said Fuck The Critics & Done It Their Way! Didn't Seem Right When Andy Left (Hoping He KICKS CANCER'S ASS & Makes A Full Recovery! This Documentary Is Pure Platinum But What I Really Enjoyed If That This Documentary Shows That NICK RHODES Is Just As Much A Clown As The Rest Of The Guys! Nick Was Always Portrayed As A Stoic, Stiff Man Diva Who Took Himself 2 Seriously! GREAT DOCUMENTARY
Thanks a lot! Nick is a proper laugh bucket behind the scenes, and he is often the first to laugh and roll up into a ball when something happens or does wrong. Like "Oh, they didn't let you bring in your cell phones..." Probably Part 2 of this film series shows more of Nick, as this part 3 was more about John and Roger.

Yes. It was a big budget gala. They flew in 100s of new wave goths from Birmingham for the event, and the footage was broadcast to millions in that news report. I think simon falls over at least 4 times in this video, and maybe 5 times in the 40 Years of Hysteria film.

Life in a band looks silly and boring most of the time. It’s all about the music and shows.
The life of DD was manic mayhem for 24 hours a day, and its a shame that this footage is just the tip of the iceberg. DD were high on drugs and partying hard for 30 odd years, and the mania also helped. JT had sex with literally hundreds of women. Warren went around naked most of the time. Yeah, boring.
