Krishna Jayanti
Sri Krishna born on Avani Masam, Krishna Paksham, Ashtami Thithi, Rohini Nakshatram.
Janmashtami, Hindu festival celebrating the birth (janma) of the god Krishna on the eighth (ashtami) day of the dark fortnight of the month of Bhadrapada (August-September). The number eight has another significance in the Krishna legend in that he is the eighth child of his mother, Devaki.
The birthday of Lord Krishna is celebrated as Krishna Janmashtami. It is an annual celebration which marks the birth of Lord Krishna who is considered to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, the eighth “Avatar” of Lord Vishnu.
The Krishna Janmashtami Festival is known by several names such as Krishnashtami, Gokulashtami, Srikrishna Jayanti, Sree Jayanti, or simply as Janmashtami.
Number 8 behind Sri Krsna
Krsna is 8th avatar or incarnation of Lord Vishnu
Sri Krishna had appeared in the month of Vikram Sambat Hindi Calender Bhadra Krishna Paksha on 8th /Ashtmi Tithi at positively 12 midnight.
He was the 8th child of Devaki and Vasudev
The jail which he had born has 8 doors.
He rescued 16100 gopis (women devotees of Krishna) from Narakasura. Later, he married them all, so the count remains 1+6+1+0+0 = 8.
Lord Krishna lived for exactly 125 (1+2+5=8) years.
In numerology, the number 8 represents infinity.
The number 8 has no ending and it loops back itself.
There are 8 forms of Laxmi. Laxmi is the consort of lord Vishnu. The persons who have got the blessings of these eight forms of Laxmi, he is considered a complete man. These eight forms of Laxmi are the eight Shaktis of Lord Vishnu. And in Krishna incarnation, these eight Shaktis became his eight wives. He is Pati (husband) of these eight forms. Pati means owner. That means - he is the owner of the completeness and infinity.
Ashtha, Aṣṭa, or Ashta in Sanskrit, it is the number of wealth and abundance.

Govind It means ‘cowherd’
Govinda One who has knowledge of sense, Illuminator of senses
The ‘One who makes the cowherds happy’.
Harish The one who feels that he does everything according to God’s wish
Hrishikesh One who controls the senses.
Janaradhana Liberator from the cycle of birth and death’ ‘One who helps people’.
In Gita Krishna says: Do your actions for My sake; Have me as your ultimate refuge; Be My devotee; Be rid of all attachment; Have no hate towards anything or anyone. Then you shall reach Me.:
Things need for pooja and naivedhyam
• Krishna Idol or photo frame
• Flowers/Garland for decoration
• Fruits like apple, pomegranate,Orange,banana, guava etc
• One coconut for neivedyam
• Betel leaves and nuts (Vetrilai paaku)
• Oil and ghee to light the lamp
• Rice flour and colors for drawing Rangoli and Krishna feet.
To offer
• A small cup of milk, curd, butter, Poha/Aval mixed with jaggery or sugar.
These offerings are must and should even if you don’t prepare sweets and snacks.
Ingredients for making neivedyam recipes
• Raw rice and Rice flour ( for making seedai , murukku and paal payasam )
• Sesame seeds or cumin seeds
• Coconut
• Jaggery ( For vella seedai and appam)
• Banana ( for appam)
• Sugar ( for Milk payasam)
• Milk ( for payasam/Kheer)
• Urad dal and Roasted gram dal ( Pottukadalai ) ( For making seedai, murukku)
• Butter/Ghee for snacks
• Cooking oil ( to deep fry)
