FSM President David Panuelo is a down to Earth man. I am a Filipino who spent 15 years of my life in Pohnpei and Chuuk States of the Federated States of Micronesia as a foreign worker in the construction business sector over there. Back then in the early 90's, President Panuelo was an ordinary educated Micronesian who owns a decent general merchandise store. He greets every one locals or expats with a smile and a lively hello, good morning or kaselehlia in their Pohnpeian language. I left the islands back in 2008 and was not really surprised to learn that in 2018, Mr. David Panuelo was elected as President.
Sir, I am sure the people of the FSM are proud of you, and will surely want to have you to lead them for another year. Mabuhay po! 🇫🇲🇵🇭

Couple of clarifications here from someone who worked in Micronesia for some years for the Australian government. Micronesia is not a single state, it is actually three sovereign nations Palau, Federated States of Micronesia and the Marshall Islands. China was pushing for influence there in the late 2000s when I was there and there was a huge amount of Chinese tourism where we were in Palau (a US client state), although Palau still recognised Taiwan at the time,
I can easily see from a strategic perspective why China is taking an interest here, but my experience was that these little countries often can summon up a very loud voice internationally when they shout together, which they often do.

There's no point in appeasing China, it's far better to call them out on the world stage, it's about the only thing that WILL give them pause. Knowing the world is watching and DISAPPROVES is about all that matters to China, they're pragmatists and enjoy being a manufacturing giant for the world. Ensuring that an invasion on their part would harm their global trade would make the balance sheet unattractive when considering invasion.

    1. Why did the president write a 13-page accusation that China has been bribing and threatening small countries for a long time, and the reporter did not report in depth what caused it and the relevant details?
    2. Why do you only want the audience to know that the president is retiring, implying that he is about to have no political influence?
    3. Why do you want to explain China's economic contributions and constructions in that country in just a few minutes of reporting?
    4. Did you report that these constructions are for the benefit of the island nation or China itself?
Just like the former president of Ecuador accepted huge bribes from China, signed a huge public construction expenditure of 19 billion U.S. dollars with China, and then China built a hydroelectric power plant dam with a price of 2.8 billion U.S. dollars. After two years of use, there were 7648 cracks.
After that, when these countries do not pay back, they will almost permanently give their natural resources and minerals, such as oil over 90%, to China at the lowest cost. China then resells it to other countries for profit.
Then, the corrupt government cut at least 1,000 public employment opportunities in its own country for the sake of China.
    3. This reporter, do you have a biased political position? Why use the way China calls Taiwan to call Taiwan with Taipei?

Not much of a surprise considering the type of Government that rules China. Plus, China is following in the footsteps of Japan in terms of its economic ambitions. The Chinese Communist Party is a dictatorship, does not have much to do with Communism. The CCP has always viewed Taiwan as the prize. Autocratically ruled nations usually have a person who takes high risks and does not care about anyone much but are extremely focused or obsessed with achieving their goals.

If everything you say is correct and the "Micronesia card" is something the US can play, and is at the bottom of the deck... then I would say the US is not desperate, it's actually a strategy of "compliance by 1000 nudges". It's a way of gently showing your position and slowly influencing others through it. It is typically used as a way of building compliance in the workplace while avoiding outright confrontation.

Like the "dont send weapons to Russia" (which they didn't) but we supply weapons to Ukraine and billions in weapons to Israel so it can bomb Palestinians? The fact that you see China as the one who crosses the line and not your own country tells me you're so damn brainwashed already.

I visited to island of Yap in Micronesia in 2015. I remember a local telling me that the Chinese had been throwing around a lot of money. Some of the Chinese were entrepreneurs trying to convince them to set up casinos and karaoke (KTV) bars.
They also said that they were pushing hard to get the locals to accept funds to expand their airport. The reasoning was "if you build a bigger airport we can bring in more tourists." The locals said they knew it was because China wants to have an airstrip that can handle fighter jets. Yap is only 800km (500 miles) from Guam.
