    I'll eventually make an achievement set for this. I already made a set for the Sega Master System and Arcade versions, and likely will revise the Genesis version as well. If you haven't player around with RetroAchievements, I think you'd have a good time.

      @@AfroRyan I’ve considered doing RetroAchievements for Gain Ground (Genesis) before, but what confused me was the on-site points system. I can see that the RetroAchievements points spike up at certain intervals of in-game score, but I’d like to know the pattern it works by.

      @@Arial55555 There's regular points and "RetroPoints." RetroPoints are defined as "a measurement of rarity and estimated difficulty. Derived from points, number of achievers, and number of players." So it's a number derived from a formula that tries to be more "accurate" to the overall site. As developers we can only set achievements as 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 25, 50, and 100 points, so trying to "balance" a set in and of itself can already be a bit arbitrary and subjective, and that becomes much more so when you compare it to a completely different game of a different genre. Like, yeah, beating Sonic without dying is something to be proud of, but beating Ghosts and Goblins, like, period, is even harder by most peoples' standards. That's just a roundabout way of saying RetroPoints try to solve that kind of discrepancy in point distribution. It isn't perfect though; what can really muddy RetroPoints can actually be observed by my example just now. A no death challenge achievement was added to Sonic, and its RetroPoint value is 659. Beating Ghosts n Goblins is 326 RetroPoints. However, the Sonic achievement was added via revision, just recently in fact, but the algorithm considers all past players in its calculations even pre revision, so it skews certain challenges in unfortunate ways, making it appear at first glance that the Sonic challenge is harder. Obviously it isn't, but as more players play more of both games, you'd expect to see the "true" value of these points start to manifest.

      @@AfroRyan But I have also seen that it one’s score in Gain Ground is added to one’s Retro Score at a 1:1 ratio, and certain bonuses to the RetroScore are given upon passing milestones like 10,000 pts, 20,000 pts, etc.
      I remember notably seeing LordBBH play Gain Ground on Genesis and have just short of 10,000 points in-game on stage 1-8, and a Retro Score equal to his in-game score. Then, he shot a standard enemy to reach just over 10K in-game, but his RetroScore jolted up to 141K- which is quite a bonus!
      I imagine the ratio would obviously be different from game-to-game for score-related bonuses. Do you know what the scaling in Gain Ground is for such bonuses? Or is it also algorithmic and thus constantly varying/changing based on how high of in-game scores others have compared to you?

      @@Arial55555 Oh sorry; I think I misinterpreted your message. Any popups you were seeing that seem related to the in-game scoring but also related to unlocking achievements were likely what's referred to as "measured" achievements, which give you little pop ups to let you know how close you are to achieving a numbers-based metric. Like, if you have a measured flag on reaching 1,000,000 points, you'd see it pop up every time the score increased. It can sometimes be a bit delayed which will cause some confusion. Frankly, measured flags are kind of intrusive in my opinion, at least when it has to do with in-game score since it's always changing. I think it's fine in some games, like opening a certain amount of treasures in Zelda; basically for things you aren't doing all the time. Anyways, I didn't mean to make things more confusing by bringing up Retro Points. If you ever do join RA, please stream/record your attempts; it can be really fun to watch people attempt custom challenges as a set designer.

      @@AfroRyan I’m not sure it’s an achievement-tied I’m seeing.
      Here’s what I’m referring too; the score counter(s) in the bottom-right:
      th-cam.com/video/Eb-BM6MScQg/w-d-xo.html&si=yZ9qk0DG-kqJJYSg
      It goes up by a LOT more than 10 after hitting that one enemy.

    the whole game on ps2 is hard, i think bosses has more HP than in genesis

    • @Arial55555
      @Arial55555  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh yeah they have LOADS more. Most Genesis bosses have 30 HP, but I think Arcade/PS2 bosses have like tripple that amount, or something close to that.
      And yet, General can two-shot almost all of them in PS2/Arcade. The Genesis manual wasn’t lying when they said he was “The Most Powerful”- they were just basing it off of the wrong version!
