Thanks for these test Dave! I use the M1 MAX 16 Inch too and can confirm your test. In Low Power Mode the battery life ist significant higher than in auto mode. So in Low Power Mode we probably get same battery life like the M1 PRO. For me in this case I get two Devices in one, can get max power when i want it and can get a longer battery life if i want this! PERFECT
Hello DIW. Do it mean it really make a huge difference when turning on low power mode in saving battery? How does it affect the performance though? Or is it better to turn low power mode for easy tasks and turn high power mode in heavy tasks?
@@LifeofhOfficial The High Power Mode its just the same like Auto Mode. But the Low Power Mode will reduce the usage of Energy about 30-40% so u will get about 30-40% more Battery Life but also 30-40% less Performance. I was planning on returning computer tomorrow and downgrading to pro but really with 32gb and 2 TB..not worth my journey to Apple store
Thank you a lot, your benchmarks are really complete and useful since you've concretely measured the power consumption from the wall adapter with a watt-meter. You answered a lot of questions that I had! Now I'll try to keep my M1 Pro Macbook 14 in Low Power mode while I'm on the go, and I'll see if that impacts or improves my daily working experience in some ways. Subscribed. Keep it up!
In initial testing, in 'automatic' battery mode, if I let my 16" Max laptop sit without doing anything (A few tabs in Chrome are open, but no videos playing), the battery lasts less than 5 hours. That sounds defective to me. Debating about sending it back. Update 12/17/2021: maybe there was a stealth update from Apple, but my laptop yesterday lasted 9.5 hours while running Chrome and TH-cam videos. Light usage, but way better battery life than at first. I'm happy now.
Hey, thanks for the update ! Very reassuring. From ready too many reviews I think what happened is that during your initial testing your laptop was doing a lot of setup in the background. In particular spotlight search indexing your SSD. So the CPU was actually working rather hard.
Very useful review as I’ve one on order and I was on the fence. I was curious to know two things though Q1. Is it quieter in low power mode? If so how quiet is it as I hate me 2019 16” as it is hot and noisy! Q2. Does the screen dim in the low power mode?
The computer is basically silent in both high and low power modes. I don't think I've actually heard the fan turn on and if it was on it was super quiet. This is even under heavy loads like video editing... it's wild. The screen does dim in low power mode but you can manually bump up the brightness if desired.
I heard the fan spinning once while doing a Cinebench on my bed (Macbook Pro 14 with M1 Pro 8/14). But, yeah, I only heard that it was spinning, nothing more! I didn't have any jet engine revving up in my room as it usually happened with my old Windows machine when I was in my desktop 😂 These machine are so damn silent that you'll start wondering if the fans are broken or what.
I am looking for this exact type of power consumption test for a MacStudio M1 Max. To know exactly how much watt it draws. Do you have a test like this please?
Can u tell me how much the battery lasted on low powered mode doing normal stuff like web browsing and watching content and battery life doing pro stuff I prefer battery as I'm just a student and I want to buy one of these but the battery life on the max concerns me (from what I have learnet from other YTubers) but if this outputs same battery performance in low powered mode as the normal 16 inch pro then I would buy it

Hi ... Thanks for this review ... I waiting for somebody who will test this low power mode. Could I ask about difference between low mode and power high mode in fan speed values? I also concern about reports about 14 inch issues with high RPM of fans during heavy load. I'd like to know if 14 inch model could be fixed by low pawer mode settings. But I understand that You have only 16 inch MacBook Pro. Maybe others your subscribers can test it for us :-).

SO, do you think 60w power is enough? my normal tasks are having lots of Safari & Firefox tabs open, plus Mail, Messages, Notes. i work in Photoshop mostly and occasionally dive in to small Final Cut Pro projects. i often use apps like Handbrake to convert video files. but nothing hardcore. rarely i'll have a couple gig Photoshop file to work in. so in knowing all of that, i'm looking for advice on hub wattage. looking to consolidate 2 TB cables & an audio cable into just 1 thing to plun/unplug. thanks.
