- Self-publishing and confused by your author name, imprint name or publisher name? It is confusing but this video is here to help!
If you are self-publishing then you will still need to provide your legal name, a publisher name and an imprint when you publish your books. There is a safe way to use your legal name to get royalties without disclosing this for everyone to see.
You have to pay close attention when setting your book up with the distributors.

Hi Patrick, thank you for consistently adding value to authors :). I use both my real name and pen names as I write under different genres. Currently I only publish through Amazon. It seems Amazon only shows imprint and pen name but I'd like to be sure. Where would I check that?
You are very welcome Ligeia! Yes, it does show imprint and pen name so should be okay. Waterstones is the one that often displays the real name or legal name if authors haven't been careful when filling out their forms or distributing through Ingram. Look in the description part of the sales listing on Amazon.
My pen name is Sam Grant. Recently, my actual name has cropped up more frequently. My main big problem is that my books are print on demand (POD) Would I be better to set up a Sam Grant supplier company? Libraries and book shops only order from a main stream book supplier. There's also the " we hate Amazon books," mindset of book shops. This is not as bad as six years ago when first novel was published.
Hi Colin. This is a common problem regarding how some of the retailers display names. Hence the video. I would recommend using Ingram. We can always help you get set up if needed. They allow you to keep your legal name private and simply display the author name and imprint. I would recommend an imprint as it certainly does remove the opportunity for stigmas from any retailers.
Thank you, very insightful. Can I use my real name for author name and then use a "Made Name" for Publisher name ?
Hello
How to change my name on the author's page on books2read?
... When I press on the edit button, I can change social media icons, bio and description but I cannot change my name on the author's page. How to do that?
I'm setting up LLC to publish ebooks but want to use a pen name. Do I register pen name by applying for DBA registration? Should it be listed as PP Publishing LLC dba pen name?
I get it, but aint one of the goals is to get known/ for your name to get out there? People going to find out regardless 🤷🏽♀️
This depends on the author. You are absolutely right when authors want to use their own name. Often authors want a pseudonym for a wide range of reasons. This makes sure they are only known for their writing name
