- Headed up by Jen Agg and Brandon Olsen, Toronto's The Black Hoof is known for its giant charcuterie boards, tuna with sweetbreads, horse tartare, and foie gras with Nutella. In this episode, we invited Colin Tooke and Ian McGrenaghan who own Grand Electric, the bourbon-soaked, dimly lit taco joint. The whole crew ends up at Cold Tea, a fake speakeasy in Kensington Market, and enjoy a dangerous round of "Green Dragon" cocktails. As if all that wasn't enough, the night ends at The Black Hoof for some after-hours tongue nachos. Please enjoy.

You can tell that kid talking about the cured meats is going to be big one day! Such passion.
"Horse farmer...where I get my horse hearts."
Ok...The Bartender is smokin'
I really like staying at home and watching people eat and go out!
cant deal with sweetbreads... but the charcuterie tray looks unbelievably great
I really dont know why so many people are hating. I live in Toronto and have been to both grand and the hoof, by far two of the best restaurants in the city. the food and service are great and you can really see they have a passion for what they do.
also foie and nutella is not a hipster dish its called being a good chef and trying different things.
Stop hating and try loving people. there is enough hate in this world we dont need anymore of it.
It's about the art of cooking and the creations/taste it can create.
Seriously, this is 100% vice just as we like it.
Out of all the munchie shows this group is by far the douchiest!
I am looking forward to trying this place. Anthony Bourdain did a show there recently and the food looked legit.
whoever was the camera man/DOP of this specific episode needs to shoot all the munchies episodes....looks good. oh and awesome food too
Enter Jen feeling that bourbon @ 5:55 LMAO
This is something that someone's grandfather, if he were younger, would dine at; it's something that was done with fresher ingredients and was carefully prepared like the spring-harvested spruce tip charcuterie. Sometimes the old ways are better.
If you want "New Age," go to McDonald's. Fast food has the best manufactured food you can get.
this place is constantly raved about at all of the culinary schools in toronto, and for a good reason. I would love to check it out, its also really nice to see vice come to Toronto for food.
the whole point of these segments is to show all of the different types/styles of cooking and even the odd ones, if you don't like the what they're cooking, which by the way is part of a successful restaurant so it can't be that bad, then don't watch it, simple as, vice are known for bringing light to quirky and odd things that not many people have heard of.
these guys r pretty young to all own there own business , props to them
Duck liver and chocolate spread, our life expectancy is rapidly shrinking.
If I hear that Zoosk commercial one more time " Ooh Liz!...Meet Brad" I'm gonna upchuck. Someone please recommend a good pop up blocker. I can't take it anymore!
You won't regret it. Black Hoof is fantastic. Just don't be squeemish about eating any of it since it can sound, odd, but guaranteed will taste marvelous.
whenever i watch a good episode of Munchies it always makes me want to be a chef! Granted i know there is alot of work to being successful. But seeing chefs and other chefs hang out drink and have good time make great food.. WHY WOULDNT YOU WANT THIS LIFE!? lol
How the fuck can I watch Munchies with "Interview with a Cannibal" video suggestion next to me..Please TH-cam, explain to me.
The food is so nice that the guy had to puke from it in the car.
It's better to listen to this than to watch it. Nice jazzy background music.
My man Brandon rocking dat five head.
One of my favorite Munchies episodes! Finally some somewhat modest chefs.
brandon looks like dale gribble when hes not wearing a hat XD
It sounded like Bourbon and Fernet Branca which every single chef and waiter in Toronto is drinking in very large volumes right now for some reason.
I got scared for a second, I thought I was watching a nutella ad. and I have google chrome ad blocker
Nutella, that nacho plate and Sarah the Bartender are all delish (or at least look delish in the case of the nachos/bartender).
how can anyone hate on this, such a stellar working environment, the food looks simple yet so delis, and it's in T DOT!
gotta hit this place tip next time I'm in ontario
french and italian foods often integrate art with food...italian food and french food are arts...
This series is really great. I really have no care for how much money the chef featured earns. This is a great show and is done really well. Stop complaining.
I was watching this with such a serious face until I saw your comment, now I have tears in my eyes. You sir made my night.
I especially loved the part about the Nutella.
The Black Hoof = Epic Meal Time
If I have to watch another 2 second clip of someone taking a bite of food and nodding, I swear to fuck I'm gonna go on a rampage
I'm from toronto and I've never heard of this place! Thanks vice, gotta visit this place sometime soon
I don't know what the last guy was talking about but I'm definitely scoping out the grand electric for a snack sometime.
Visited BH a few months ago. It was a great experience. The food was exceptional, especially the unique ingredients they use that really captivate your senses. Original, delicious.
even knowing what you're ordered, by the time the dish came out they surprise you again. Great experience that had me talking about it for days
You do realize that a LOT of countries eat those bits of animals, right? Many people do not like to waste parts of an animal that are both edible and delicious.
Whenever someone say "that's hipster," what i hear is "I don't know what that is, so i'm going to make fun of it because it's unfamiliar to me"
You're watching VICE, a media company based in Williamsburg that specifically looks for stories that no one else is covering (i.e. stuff you haven't heard of). Calling them hipsters is possibly the laziest joke imaginable.
The bartender at Cold Tea....WoOw!
gez im not much of a chef, but that place looks like a relaxed working environment even. Fantastic look into the specialty restaurant, @Black Hoof @VICE Thanks for the video!
Diabetes has never tasted better than this.
Yeah i keep telling your mum that buddy, she sure does look funny trying to have a shower though, ha ha.
this should be called, drunk girl who is also a chef
What? It's a show that has a format. That's how all tv is done, makes it easy for the user to follow.
The bartender at Cold Tea is sweet.
Vice, I on the other hand, enjoy watching videos on the subject of food, and I thank you for having a variety!
7:06 That look that will drive you crazy.
Vice is turning into a Hipster version of Chow
Its culture man. Dont watch if your going to hate man. Peace and unity!
Well what you said was definetly true poking fun at the situation is always welcome
Jen is pure fkn awesome.
that guy from electric wathever looks and acts so much like the renos 911 guy
The ceviche at Grand looked amazing. I am going to have to come to Toronto to try both of these places!
Vice, yall need to have a video like this for Toronto's own Gangster Burger. concept of their business is pretty cool. yall need to check them out!
The best part of this one was the end!
I wanna try those tacos!! Also, that bar tender at the end is super cute :>
lmao well said. *macho man voice* WE NEED SUM MOAR STEVEN SPIELBERG ACTION, SPICE UP THINGS!
Is everything that's new and creative considered hipster now? Get over yourselves. These types of people are the ones that participate in the change of the world and create new and great ideas. Enjoy your TV dinners and boring lives...
LOOOOL homeboys sleeping
its all good though
“Gonna feed it to you so you look extra gay”. Wow. Really cool chick.
Totally gonna go check that out now
wow, you just gave me a thing to do for my birthday
gonna go around Downtown Toronto then, look for those places :D
The body is actually made to take in meat, more primarily than other kinds of food, but genetically lots of us have changed and not everyone can process it the same as everyone else.
Tell that to your growling stomach 20 minutes later.
Baby cows neck muscles and the hearts of horses? What the hell is wrong with you people!
I went to both restaurants and they're awesomeeeeeeeeeee
@6:53 oh yes, I want that one
Well Toronto is a different place :)
Plus wasn't this episode posted already? I saw it somewhere
Props.
How about a Vice solo vid on Sarah the bartender in 4 parts?
I couldn't even make it to 4mins, Hipster overload.
I'd leave the restaraunt if the person I was with ordered such a cruel food like Foie gras
There are some beautiful chef boys in Toronto…..save for Brandon.
the chef of the restaurant is not a narcoleptic. he is just the chef of your restaurant.
thus for he must be tired.
i love the series guys. :) Please make more!! I love the food culture.
God bless Canada from Australia!
go to a burger joint or taco bell if you wanna get cheap food thatll get you fat, if you want your food to be art then start thinking outside the box
Don't be thick. Taco is a general term for corn or wheat tortilla with almost any kind of meat inside it.
Grand Electric is a revelation
That ending was so greaaat.
Jen Agg has had thoughtful things to say about food ethics. Disappointed to see that her restaurant serves foie gras.
Brandon seems like a cool dude who genuinely cares for his cooking and doesn't partake in the douche romp involved in this episode, but rather acts like a normal dude out on the town.
Kudos to Brandon
In all of these videos i just see people being happy doing something that they are passionate about, and they get so much shit from all these people calling them hipsters or whatever why can't people just appreciate that someone is happy doing what they love. So much jealousy and hate does nothing for the world.
Im going to Toronto for that bartender!... ooh and maybe some nutella!
The fact that she called a place a hipster bar makes me want to leave Toronto.
Munchies......wheres the smoke ! lmao
From my experience working in catering: better than on a dry brioche bun at a four star hotel in Paris.
the minute he said horse farmer i was done.
little guy is all tuckered out
electric stove and handwritten dupes! this rocks
I can't watch videos with food in it without getting something to eat myself
it is Vice.... Hipsters love Vice.
respects, but y does that charcuterie board look so much better than when i went there......
not all cheeses mix with fruit, just like how not all alcohols mix with soda, but coke and rum go together, just like blue cheese and strawberry might.
Ever had cheese with apples? orange juice sounds kinda weird but fruit is common, like grapes with cheese. Haha this reminds me of in the movie ratatouille when remi shows his brother the cheese and strawberry
Hilarious satire! One of Vice's best.
I KNOW WHERE THIS IS I LIVE IN TORONTO!!! THUMBS UP FOR TORONTO (y)
hipsters, yes.. but people forget also, successful hipsters..
