Dwyrin, I have been playing Go for only a few months, and your videos have significantly shaped my understanding of the game. I'm grateful for the attention you give to basics.
Had a headache all night. Forgot to add audio cue when tip pops up... Sorry about that! ALSO Basic videos will be coming out every Friday FROM NOW ON!!
super happy for more basics! i also prefer these videos that don't come from the stream, they seem more focused, and the chat is a little distracting :P thanks for the video!
Funny thing is that after seeing this video I just played very similar game with a stronger player and won it because I grew the top and center the same way as dwyrin here. thanks for the idea :)
In OGS there's in game analysis available. It'd be great if you could play out the things you read out verbally. Example being say at 11:54: you spoke about a series of moves you could see. You could click those moves out and we'd all see them clearly!
If its sloppy, build anyway (all low line stuff and over extended) Otherwise adopt a more territorial approach and go for light reductions (shoulder hits etc..) if at the end of that you find yourself with influence, transition into building? Hard to say. Depends on what the board looks like
Around 20:08 you start talking about getting two points in sente, and then at least one of them in sente. I find that I'm not quite grasping the concept. Maybe it's because of the position, but your opponent cannot get those points in a way that forces you to respond, right? My (admittedly feeble) understanding of the term sente is that the opponent has to respond or Bad Things (TM) will happen. Am I close? Sidebar: I really enjoy your twitch stream and basics series on youtube. Thank you!
You understand the concept of sente. What he was saying is, for black to get an eye there, he would need to be able to get these moves in sente (or at least one of them in sente), but that it wasn't working (because they weren't sente). I think you just misunderstood because he was talking a bit fast at that point.
Oh! Okay. I'm like 15k and reasonably unsure of myself. One thing I think would be really helpful would be to see how one might get an eye (or two) in sente... not in the position I was referencing in the video, but just in general.

This isn't a shape. This is just something you see in tetris. XD
i died at that joke XDD 17:21
Another excellent basics video! I always learn something new. This one taught me some good stuff about invasions. Keep up the good work!

Just discovering this DDK stuff... good shit
Haha You are funny with that tetris reminding.
great videos. thanks!
ah yes the " lets his opponent build territory easily then plays 50 moves into it hoping his opponent makes a mistake" DDK

Yay something around my level!
Lovely game.

Back to basics : "i only know a single joseki" : DDK edition
:^)
When you do those shoulder hits to "do the building", what if the person goes out instead (eg W D9 instead of C8 at 26:41)
we always respond to attachments, shoulder hits and caps!
i think you forgot the rule at 4:44
Any tips on how to identify the largest points on the board? I'm a ddk player that could definitely use some advice on recognizing where they are.
a lot of the time its exactly what i went over. Side with the most lines + potential
Thanks! Also, you said if your opponent builds first, you shouldn't build afterwards. So, what should you do if your opponent builds first?

Didn't know Frodo had a sister.
She was at the middle-earth go congress during the 3 movies
