When my husband was filling out his passport as a teen, his mom kept stressing that this is an official federal document and must be accurate. His middle name is Scott. He was so stressed about making sure he spells everything correctly, all he could remember was that there was a double letter somewhere in there and accidentally wrote out “Andrew Scoot DeMuth”. Now I lovingly call refer to him as Scoot. Btw we are new listeners! Heard about Nateland at your Youngstown show in April and have been loving it since. Thanks, folks!
Nothing illustrates the difference between Aaron and Dusty better than their default barrel. Aaron automatically thinks of the video game Donkey Kong barrel and Dusty goes for a metal barrel for burning trash. If you didn’t know that the Webers come from money and the Slays come from the trailer park, now you do.
I have to say, I've been having a horrible week - the longest anxiety/panic attack I've ever had. My birthday was also on Monday so having it followed a week like this has just been aweful... However, hearing Dusty's story about his toe and the phone made me laugh so hard, out loud, for the first time in a while. Thank you for that and thank all of you for this podcast. This is 100% why I love y'all and this whole world that's being created ❤️
NATE, you have solved a life-long puzzle for me. Over 20 years ago (I’m 31), my dad was watching a random movie early in the morning so I sat down to watch it with him and it was the scene you just described, where the daughter has to cut her dad loose to survive (no thank you) and it has stuck with me ever since. Over the years I would think about that scene and think “what was that movie?!?!” So, thank you for the closure haha.
My parents had trouble having kids, so when I was born my Mother named me Nathan as I was Gods gift to her. She would tell me this growing up. I often remind my wife of this....she is less enthusiastic about it.
Brian’s house has multiple waffle makers that don’t work. Dustys house an above ground bunker. Nates house has no front door. Aarons house has a large green ribbon painted on the door To spread gout awareness 😂😂
Speaking of names, I can count on one hand the number of times someone looked at my name for the first time and said it correctly. At least 80% of the time people say, “Margarine” with full confidence that I’ve been named after a butter substitute. It’s an Irish name, originally spelled like McCarron (like the Vegas Airport or Alabama QB) but with a G… Magarin. In the past week alone, I’ve been called Megan, MacGyver, and Magagaragin. I’ve listened to each episode, and for the last two years have wondered every week how Nate would slaughter my name… give it a shot! I took my wife on her birthday as a surprise to see Nate at the Beacon last June. Had a grand ol time. You guys are deluxe. Congrats to Dusty on the new baby! Hey Bear. - Magarin Hobson
I can’t believe the first time Nate takes notes for this podcast is so he can stumble through the plot of a below average 23 year old action movie. Classic Nateland. Let’s go folks!
It is INSANE how often Nateland mirrors my daily life. Just yesterday I heard my coworker say that he has vertigo. This happens literally every episode. Unbelievable.
It’s easy to feel like these guys are bad friends to Brian for never visiting his home, but in their defense those senior living communities have pretty strict visitation hours.
Broomstick Bates- "I've been to all your houses, numerous times, and none of you've been to mine". Oh man, hang in there Brian 😊 you are still in great company. You are not a one-man Wolf Pack😁. I'm sure the Boys will visit soon. Thanks for all the laughs Everyone
Hey Bears! I’ll weigh in here! The surname Reed is of English origin and means red. My husband can trace his family heritage all the way back to the Norman invasion, and back then it was spelled Red, for their red hair and beards. Over time it morphed to Reid and then upon coming to the New World changed yet again to Reed. Love this topic! You all are knocking it out of the park, as always!
As you all brought up in the Names episode, the tradition in Iceland is to name a child by adding “dÓttir” (meaning daughter) or “son” (obviously meaning son) after their father’s first name. This means that a brother and sister will have different surnames (last names). As an example, a father named Sigmund could have a son named BjÖrn and a daughter named Freyja… but their full names would be BjÖrn Sigmundsson and Freyja SigmundsdÓttir. Because not even siblings have a shared surname… and it could get even more confusing as you go further down the family tree with cousins, 2nd cousins and so forth… online dating can be challenging. So a dating app had to be created using family genealogy records so that potential romantic partners can find out if they are related (even distantly) before they start dating.
Nate's rambling movie review was hilarious! Can you imagine being his teacher when he was a kid and having to read his book reports? Love you guys and the podcast!
Dusty has ranted multiple times about people naming their kids on thing and calling them another (even about his own name). He reveals that they named the baby Samuel, and then proceeds to say they thought Sam Slay sounded great. Just the hypocrisy I've come to love and expect from Nateland.
I’m into all these name rules in Iceland and Norway. I bet they don’t have anyone named Brownie, Catwinkle, or Lasagna….all real names of customers I had where I grew up in FL.
Aaron being completely surprised when dusty mentioned getting 15 CDs for a penny was hilarious. Unfortunately Nate brought notes and completely missed it. I got a question. Is Aaron really that young or did Columbia house not get sent to aristocratic homes?
I just noticed the Arkansas shaped plaque over Breakfast’s right shoulder. What honor did Nate receive from the Natural State important enough to display so prominently? Love the show!
George Foreman also named his daughter Georgina! Another great one boys! I've been a listener since the beginning. Thanks for the laughs as I clean houses. ❤❤❤
First, I hope they'll do a whole episode on Shawshank once Nate finally watches it. I can't imagine him not loving it. Secondly, Aaron not remembering CD membership clubs (Columbia House/BMG) really made me feel old. BMG was awesome. :)
Funny you talked about the submersible: I was listening to an older episode #28 Calendars, at 1:08:45 Nate says "just because you're rich doesn't mean you're smart". Way to call it. unbelievable.
Some comments about Icelandic pronunciation: They have a few letters that we used to have in English, but got rid of. Eth (Ðð) pronounced like the soft “th” sound in feather. So that means Björk Guðmundsdottir’s last name is pronounced “Guthmansdottir”. The letter Thorn (Þþ) pronounced like a hard “th” like in the word thorn. So Björk’s husband, Þor is pronounced Thor. And the letter Ash (Ææ) which is pronounced like the “a” in the word ash. Hope this helps
For as long as I can remember (I’m 33) My family plays “That’s the name of the movie” Rules: when someone in the movie says the EXACT title (include “The”, “A”, etc) of the movie, the first person to say “that’s the name of the movie” wins. And that’s it 😂 - it can’t be in a song
I was so happy when you brought up Iceland names. So many famous athletes there with great daughter and son names. 2 time world champion crossfitter and multiple time top finisher Anníe Mist Þórisdóttir (given as Annie Thorisdottir), Katrín Davíðsdóttir (given as Katrin Tanja Davidsdottir) is also a 2 time crossfit world champion, and Ragnheiður Sara Sigmundsdóttir (given as Sara Sigmundsdottir) has 2 third-place finishes at the CrossFit Games, they all still compete and are still ranked 2nd, 3rd, and 8th in the world respectively. In men's strong man there have been several champions from the Icelandic and Nordic area with those names. Jón Páll Sigmarsson was a 4 time world champion from Iceland, Magnús Ver Magnússon was also a 4 time world champion from Iceland and still works as a world strong man judge, Svend Ødegård Karlsen from Norway was a top finisher multiple times and a world champion once, Magnus Samuelsson frow Sweden was a world champion and record holding 10 time world's qualifier, and most recently and still competing Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson of Iceland, who is a 9 time world's qualifier, with four 3rd places, three 2nd place finishes, and 1 world championship. These are all in the last 40 years and they are famous in their countries and in the strong man world. I'm not sure how you could condense this down for Nate, but I'm sure this is going to be a fun listen. As an extra add-on I've included a few of the top 3 finishers in the world over the last few years, but not the easy American names like Brian Shaw (Brian Bates if he turned into the hulk). Marko Varalahti is from Finland, Jouko Ahola of Finland, Flemming Rasmussen from Denmark, Janne Virtanenof Finland, Mariusz Zbigniew Pudzianowski is Polish, Vasyl Virastyuk (Ukrainian), Mateusz Kieliszkowski is Polish, Vytautas Lalas is Lithuanian, Žydrūnas Savickas (Lithuanian). Maybe a poll on which name Nate will struggle with the most.
Excited that Nate is coming to Alaska! Didn't think I'd get to see a show up here any time soon. Hopefully Nate gets to see some Bears while he's up here 🐻 🐻❄
My dad was in the air force and got stationed in Thule Greenland for a year in the late 70's. Families were not allowed to move for obvious reason that if a war was to break out, Thule would be one of the first to get hit. When he came home after his year of duty, he brought back an Atari game system and other electronics that he says were dirt cheap there compared to the cost in the states back then. My brother has that gaming system with controllers and games to this day. Love the podcast.
How did these 4 comedians, that use Hey Bear in this podcast, not jump on Hey Bear as a Native American name for a child? Never a dull moment with these guys! Keep 'em coming!
Hello folks! I used to work at a bar in Williamsburg, VA. Back when they were filming the movie The New World, Colin Farrell would come by most nights and tipped a $100 each night. He was as down to earth and cool of person that you could ever hope for someone famous to be. Let’s go folks!
Hey Bear! Congrats on the new baby, Dusty! Samuel is my name & one of the meanings of the name is “a gift from God” bc Hannah prayed for a son & God gave him to her. When I was in college & trying to flirt, one of my favorite jokes was to say that one could also interpret the meaning as “God’s gift to woman.” I also think Nate would appreciate my 2nd favorite college joke which was telling people that I was majoring in karate & minoring in long division. Thanks for all the laughs & I hope this helps Dusty’s son as he gets older & needs material.
New listener here, love this podcast! Brian looks like he should be named Aaron, and Aaron looks like he should be named a name such as Travis or Garrett. I often get confused when I listen to this podcast, because Aaron starts talking when he’s addressed, and in my mind I’m expecting to hear the soft melodious voice of Brian. Thankfully Dusty looks like a Dusty, and everyone knows Nate, so I never had the chance to be confused about his identity.
hi there, and hey bear! I’ve written in a few times and absolutely love Nate and the guys as well as the podcast! The “names” episode was a dream for me as I have worked as a nurse in the baby world for 30 years! Oh BOY have I seen some doozies for baby names! How about, for twins, “oranjelo” and “lemonjelo”?! yes, they look like orange Jell-O and lemon Jell-O, but were pronounced differently! And back in my adult nursing days, I took care of a patient whose last name was Muckenfuss! Wonder what the origination was for that??(and we had to be super careful about pronunciation! Ha ha ha) Love you guys and hope you have a great fourth!
Glad to hear Dusty's dove story turned out better than my pigeon story. The pigeons nested on my porch multiple times and it was neat to see the males and females sharing the nest-keeping responsibilities as the babies grew. Then one afternoon, I came home to an empty nest and a severely mauled dead male pigeon. Apparently male pigeons will defend their nest to the death when threatened by another male. Unfortunately, the birds never returned after that. Love the pod guys!
I don't think everyone was hoping for the billionaires to not survive...I think the reaction was to the ridiculous spending and attitude of 'we are invincible because we are billionaires' and they didn't take any warning. Although I'm with Dusty on this... it probably didn't even happen. Another point of view is that there was the ship of hundreds of refugees that went down in the Mediterranean and there was little attempt of rescue for them - but the billionaires cost American and Canadian governments millions of dollars. The inequality of poor refugees fleeing for their lives didn't get the financials poured towards them like 5 irresponsible billionaires did. I think that's what irritated people more than anything...
Long time repeat listener. I have to say this was a _very_ informative episode! Aside from Nate's "Vertical Limit" overview rant (I thought this was a podcast about comedy?), it was SUPER interesting to hear the origins of names that I was mostly totally unaware of. Good subject research crammed into an unusually short time! PS - $5 if you read this comment. 💰
When Dusty explains the copper wires at his house, he talks about the energy. And, he specifically refers to the atmosphere. Say that real slow, Mr. Slay… atmoSPHERE. I think he’s coming aROUND.
I love every movie. If I were a movie reviewer, every review I’d write would say « I thought this was a really nice movie, I bet they all worked really hard on this movie, it must’ve taken hours »
Hello folks! I’ve been catching up on the podcast for the past year and I’m finally caught up. Just wanted to say thanks for all the laughs boys! It’s also so on brand that you guys talked about how jokes about the Titanic are inappropriate, and then Nate shortly after proceeds to make a joke about taking a submarine. Couldn’t be more on brand! Last thing, seeing Nate workshop the joke written for him was the most interesting thing you guys have done related to Stand up. ;) Maybe you can turn that into a segment of the show where listeners can write in bits in what they think is Nate’s (or anyone’s else’s) tone and then you take that base and workshop it to something you’d say.
@@brianbatescomedy 1:03:54 Found it! Had to listen to the whole show at 1.75 speed to find it. Then when I went back to normal speed it sounded like you guys were in slow motion. Lol But yeah it’s when you guys are talking about wheel barrows Nate tells Aaron to “take a submarine down there.” I think the thought was that he’s educated so he must be wealthy so he could have afforded the cost of the submarine ride. 😅
Hey bear, love you guys and your work! Dusty, I stopped going to the chiropractor after suffering from intense vertigo after a "chiro" visit. You know that move where they twist your head around? That did it. I was down for the count for weeks after that visit. Maybe try going without the head-twisting maneuver? Congrat's on the new addition to the Slay family!
I live in Tampa and go to Ybor often. People raised them for a hobby and got tired of them and dumped them in Ybor, but we have plenty of coyote, no need to import. Hawaii also has homeless chickens due to a hurricane years ago. All the coops were destroyed and I guess they didn’t feel like catching them.
Hello folks and Hey bear! My middle name is "Troyce". It is a family name that comes from my dad's side. I always assumed the name had some significant meaning and was carried on from many generations past and/or was Biblical. My wife and I are having our first child, a son, in August. We are naming him Jackson Troyce. Cannot wait to disappoint him with such a strong middle name only to tell him it was taken from a Sears catalogue. Congrats to Dusty and Hannah on baby boy Sam Slay.
My Mom heard my name on Bewitched. She loved it so much, she named me Darren. So, I am named after a character with no powers in a show where most everyone else has them. My wife's name is Charity which is the name of the current Bachelorette. So, I get to spend the next few months listening to guys talk about how great Charity is. She is loving it. Me, not so much. Maybe that witch is available.... Love the show!
In Matthew 16:17, Jesus calls Peter “Peter BarJonah”. In Aramaic, “bar” means “son of”, which is why in Biblical writings and times, peoples “last names” and sometimes first names were things like Barabbas (son of the father) and Bartholomew (son of Talmai). In light of this, you sure Bargatze doesn’t mean son of Gatze or something like that??
My brother had had vertigo for a few days and was working on a boat dock. He dropped something in the water and dove down several times to find it and the vertigo went away. So maybe Dusty should go swimming.
I worked at a bank, and there was a customer whose name was Orange (can't remember the middle name but also not common) and his last name. Myself and my co workers were shocked that he was a third. Dusty, congrats! Love Samuel, but I was rooting for Hank.
My daughter had a similar NASCAR-viewing experience to Harper’s: I got back into NASCAR again with this year’s Daytona 500, and my 9-year-old daughter started rooting for Ricky Stenhouse Jr., because she thought his last name looked like STEAKhouse. Well, guess who won that race? Yep - Mr. Steakhouse. Here’s a fun question: if you four raced each other, what car would each of you be driving, what sponsors would be featured on your car, and how would the race go? COMICS, START YOUR ENGINES!
Thought you might be interested in some of the crazy names celebrities have named their kids! Yes, there is someone named Pilot out there! Bronx Mowgli (Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz) Kal-El Coppola (Nicolas Cage) Pilot Inspektor (Jason Lee) Moxie CrimeFighter (Magician Penn Jillette) Audio Science (Shannyn Sossamon) Harlie Quinn (Kevin Smith) Bear Blaze (Kate Winslet) Kulture Kiari (Cardi B) Raddix (Cameron Diaz) Bear Blu (Alicia Silverstone) Elsie Otter (Zoey Deschanel)
As for people naming their children Pilate, I don't know of any but Actor / Former Pro Skateboarder Jason Lee named his son Pilot Inspektor Lee (yes with a K). Also George Foreman not only named his 5 sons George, he also named one of his many daughters Georgetta. Hope you like the Family Meal hats boys. Hopefully I will catch you guys eventually. I keep missing you guys when you come to Denver but I will catch you eventually.
What if Nate knew that the plot, characters and conflicts in Shawshank Redemption are 1000% better than this random mountain climbing movie? Someone should add “hasn’t watched Shawshank Redemption” to his Wikipedia page. Congrats on baby bear Sam Slay, Dusty! Great name!
my youngest daughters name is Seven, yes I heard it on seinfeld over 15 years ago and held on to it... she loves her name , a lot of old women like to give their opinion and we always say ok Betty thanks
Good luck Brian! Congrats Dusty! And this was another great show guys. So, old dentist here several years ago was Dr. Slice. Ugh! And I heard today that the judge overseeing the big murder trial in Idaho is Judge Judge. I think his given name is John Judge maybe? I thought it was Interesting.
Just watched Tom Segura's new special and right away realized it's at the same theater 'Hello World' was filmed. I had to point out that Nate did it first lol.
Bates seems like he would be a great person to have as a friend, he puts in so much energy to his friendships, everyone needs a Bates in there life
He is so lovable!
Congratulations Dusty and Hannah! May the Lord bless you and your family with abundance and joy in all the years to come.

When Nate describes the K2 movie it brought me back to my nephew, as a 5 year old, explaining the plot of a “Puppy Pals” episode
That is so sweet ❤🥹
NATE, you have solved a life-long puzzle for me. Over 20 years ago (I’m 31), my dad was watching a random movie early in the morning so I sat down to watch it with him and it was the scene you just described, where the daughter has to cut her dad loose to survive (no thank you) and it has stuck with me ever since. This is phenomenal. Comment must be read next week.
I got nervous when Dusty said ‘On Sunday I had Vertigo’ was worried he had named his new baby ‘Vertigo’

Hello Folks and Hey Bear 🐻 Congratulations to Dusty and Hannah! All the Blessings and best wishes to your Family🙏🏽
I love how Aaron's description of "recent" is the 16th century when discussing Red and Orange.
It is INSANE how often Nateland mirrors my daily life. Just yesterday I heard my coworker say that he has vertigo. This happens literally every episode. Unbelievable.
So you say. -Dusty Sleigh
Congratulations Dusty & Hannah, continued blessings.
Nate 20 minutes into explaining the whole plot of the movie, " not to give it all away, but..."
I still want to watch it 😂
It’s easy to feel like these guys are bad friends to Brian for never visiting his home, but in their defense those senior living communities have pretty strict visitation hours.
I hope we get to hear the final cut of Nates hockey speech. It was interesting to watch him fine tune jokes to his cadence.
Was thinking the same!

They’re acting like Dusty isn’t a biblical name when it’s quite possibly the oldest name in the book. Without Dusty, Adam wouldn’t exist!
You're acting like people read the Bible like clearly you study it hahah they don't...
@@YourBeastRoy It’s a joke. Man made from dust. “Dusty”. It’ll be alright.

I am amazed that when you were talking about biblical names and Brian you didn't mention the Monty Python film Life of Brian
a controversial film at the time.... Nice remembrance ...
I know, right!
Dusty says mirrah for mirror and yet says barrel for barrow.
Here in Virginia we say wheel barrah.
Thanks for the laughs each week. ❤
Nate's rambling movie review was hilarious! Can you imagine being his teacher when he was a kid and having to read his book reports? Love you guys and the podcast!
I always just assumed you guys were friends not just podcast partners, Nate not knowing Dusty's daughters name was funny to me. haha.

The switchblade thing is one of Nate’s funniest! Omg.

Couldn't be happier that Nate brought up Vertical Limit. Classic film and I think it was the first DVD I ever bought in high school.
Everyone in Iceland is in the HOA. You can only build your fence so high and can’t name your son Sue
Aaron being completely surprised when dusty mentioned getting 15 CDs for a penny was hilarious. Unfortunately Nate brought notes and completely missed it. I got a question. Is Aaron really that young or did Columbia house not get sent to aristocratic homes?
Sam Slay sounds like a private detective!
I just noticed the Arkansas shaped plaque over Breakfast’s right shoulder. What honor did Nate receive from the Natural State important enough to display so prominently? Love the show!
Dusty: you can get shoulder blocked.
Brian:……….🤨checked?…….
LOL
George Foreman also named his daughter Georgina! Another great one boys! I've been a listener since the beginning. Thanks for the laughs as I clean houses. ❤❤❤

Hello fokes, and hey baby bear, Samuel! Congratulations to Dusty and the whole Fam Damily!
Nate & Dusty slurring the words alka seltzer reminded me of “Barry Sanders”
Robin was in the Mentalist TV series with Simon Baker
New listener here, love this podcast! Brian looks like he should be named Aaron, and Aaron looks like he should be named a name such as Travis or Garrett. I often get confused when I listen to this podcast, because Aaron starts talking when he’s addressed, and in my mind I’m expecting to hear the soft melodious voice of Brian. Thankfully Dusty looks like a Dusty, and everyone knows Nate, so I never had the chance to be confused about his identity.
That joke from the NHL awards sounds like AI wrote it
My little brother is named Christian but we have called him Duke since day one. Do it dusty! Love yous guys
Aaron has never heard of the Columbia House deal -- and I feel ancient.
hi there, and hey bear! I’ve written in a few times and absolutely love Nate and the guys as well as the podcast!
The “names” episode was a dream for me as I have worked as a nurse in the baby world for 30 years! Oh BOY have I seen some doozies for baby names!
How about, for twins,
“oranjelo” and “lemonjelo”?! yes, they look like orange Jell-O and lemon Jell-O, but were pronounced differently!
And back in my adult nursing days, I took care of a patient whose last name was Muckenfuss! Wonder what the origination was for that??(and we had to be super careful about pronunciation! Ha ha ha)
Love you guys and hope you have a great fourth!
and my name is yvonne Willis (pronounced Evon)
Glad to hear Dusty's dove story turned out better than my pigeon story. The pigeons nested on my porch multiple times and it was neat to see the males and females sharing the nest-keeping responsibilities as the babies grew. Then one afternoon, I came home to an empty nest and a severely mauled dead male pigeon. Apparently male pigeons will defend their nest to the death when threatened by another male. Unfortunately, the birds never returned after that.
Love the pod guys!
Everything Dusty says has started make sense to me. You other three are starting to seem strange though.
If there even are three

Calendars is the absolute best episode to really get to know how this podcast goes.
Nate playing gulf he looks like the brother from “something about Mary”….. getting chest pumped he just needed the headphones… 😅🎉😂❤
Doctors would refer you to a physical therapist who does the maneuver Dusty mentioned. My sister had this!
If you ever want someone to NOT watch a movie, just have Nate review it.
Haha!
What was Nate's joke about taking a submarine?
There's a friend of our family who's given name is "Jeff" but everyone calls him Duke. Works out great
I worked at a bank, and there was a customer whose name was Orange (can't remember the middle name but also not common) and his last name.
Bronx Mowgli (Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz)
Kal-El Coppola (Nicolas Cage)
Pilot Inspektor (Jason Lee)
Moxie CrimeFighter (Magician Penn Jillette)
Audio Science (Shannyn Sossamon)
Harlie Quinn (Kevin Smith)
Bear Blaze (Kate Winslet)
Kulture Kiari (Cardi B)
Raddix (Cameron Diaz)
Bear Blu (Alicia Silverstone)
Elsie Otter (Zoey Deschanel)
As for people naming their children Pilate, I don't know of any but Actor / Former Pro Skateboarder Jason Lee named his son Pilot Inspektor Lee (yes with a K). Also George Foreman not only named his 5 sons George, he also named one of his many daughters Georgetta. Hope you like the Family Meal hats boys. Hopefully I will catch you guys eventually. I keep missing you guys when you come to Denver but I will catch you eventually.
Dusty loves the Iceland laws on names that you can't name your kid with a name that doesn't identify it's gender after he named his son Sam
Brian is the Nardwuar of Nateland. 😂
Chiropractic care for all the things. I lost hearing for 2 weeks from a cold. One chiropractic adjustment fixed it completely.
I wonder how many Nate fans are also Anthony Jeselnik fans like me and heard his story of him and Nate meeting LeBron James.
Great name!
“No Donkeys….All Horses” should henceforth forever be “Natespeak” for the ‘well to do’”
Buckethead has the world record for the most prolific artist of all time. He has over 300 record/album credits to his name. He's an amazing guitarist.
Of course Aaron loves the throw in a shoe. Justifies his WHOA car comment in the early days of the pod. 😂
my youngest daughters name is Seven, yes I heard it on seinfeld over 15 years ago and held on to it... she loves her name , a lot of old women like to give their opinion and we always say ok Betty thanks
Awe! I was wondering what happened to the meal train! I was going to donate ! Congrats to the Slay fam!
God bless Samuel Slay and his whole family.
