Hey Bear and whatnot! I am a palliative care chaplain at a hospital in Denver. Each day we start interdisciplinary rounds with a short reflection, usually an inspirational quote or something. Today I instructed our entire team to come up with the five liquids they would dispense from their fingers. Each member of the team (doctors, social workers, chaplains) spent the whole day discussing, looking up various liquids (some NSFW), and crafting their perfect starting five. You have brought joy and levity to a sometimes difficult place to work. Thanks for being a source of fun and a reminder that we don't always have to take ourselves so seriously!
After roasting Brian for his question, Nate "let me make it better" - "if it's a 20hr flight, give me 10 and then give me 8, that's how I'd do it." And no one mentioned that Nate would still be 2hrs from the destination...
I feel like he deserves to be wherever he ended up lol I thought the question was quite reasonable and it was interesting that they had to hem and haw around it for so long and roast Blueberry when the answer, as we found out later was simply 10hrs. I thought we were about to have another Cow-gate on our hands.
@@nathanielwiens it was a great question. I just didn’t get him giving Brain a hard time. I mean most of the stuff they talk about is silly. Nate should have played along.

In August we are going to a farm for vacation with lots of down time. I've been kind of worried that the younger crowd might be bored but after listening to this episode, I've decided to go back through the podcasts and write down all of the best questions/comments like the 5 finger liquid one, and throw them out every day and see what mayhem ensues. Saw Nate throw out the first pitch at the Sounds game this past weekend. Got a smile and a wave out of him when I yelled hello folks while he was in front of the dugout.
It's 4am and the episode drops. This is the few positives a of night shift 😂 I've been a subscriber to the channel since before the first episode... all 350-400 some subscribers when I joined. Congrats on the 110,000+
Hey guys, big fan of the podcast, I’m still 30 episodes behind so there is still time for that to change. I wanted to give a shout out to two Nateland fans, my best friend Keaton who got me hooked on the podcast, and his beautiful bride Catherine. They are getting married on June 9th! We are looking forward to seeing Nate in Knoxville in December. Keep up the great entertainment!
Hello folks! Love the episode. I live outside of Peoria and appreciate Dusty acknowledging us outside of Chicago. Most of Illinois is farm country and we get frustrated with the big city politics that runs our state. Keep up the great work and we look forward to seeing Nate in Peoria for the second time in November!
Dusty’s response was the most concise and thoughtful rebuttal to “altruism is impossible”. Stating that because you feel good after an act implies a selfish motive is a logical fallacy. Hmm… and we just talked about that didn’t we. Seems Dusty and Nate are the only ones in the room passing that class!
I've thought a lot about that topic since the episode of Friends, the one where Phoebe tries to disprove the argument that there is no unselfish good deed by letting a bee sting her. It was pointed out that the bee dies after stinging, and I don't think there was ever a resolution to it.
Nate, Dusty, Aaron and Black Bean Breakfast Burrito - My husband and I have been huge fans since we stumbled across Nate’s special, Tennessee Kid, in 2019 one night while browsing Netflix. We didn’t know what we were in for, but we laughed so hard we cried, and we have been hooked ever since. Now we have a fun hobby following stand-up comedy in general. It’s a nice escape from our daily lives as full-time working parents of four. The reason I felt the need to comment this week is because I am the corporate dietitian at Panera Bread. I manage the nutrition, ingredient, allergen and food policy information that you see on our menus. Aaron - thank you for being a Panera fan! I have heard you mention Panera a few times. Nate - I hope you give us another try. Though Aaron prefers our drive-thru locations, there is still the option to walk into a bakery-cafe and order, plus there are calorie counts on all the menu items which I know is something you pay attention to. So many options to choose from - from bakery treats to specialty coffees & drinks to salads to sandwiches to soups to warm bowls to flatbread pizzas! You can’t go wrong. Thanks for the continued laughs, gentleman! See you in St. Louis in October, Nate!
My husband was gone for a week for work, he came home Friday and the highlight of our week wasn't seeing each other, it was seeing Nate and his dad in Dayton! Met his dad and met him again. (Posted picture in the FB group and someone said Nate looked he aged 20 years and we aged 20 minutes) Nate and the rest of you have great chemistry and I am so happy this podcast is continuing it's momentum. Nate is the epitome of the quote "A candle doesn't lose it's flame by lighting another candle" Also, give your dad his own special!
I do a lot of walking for my job, and so i will have the podcast playing in the background to passively listen to. While listening to this weeks podcast, I tuned out for a couple of mins only to come back to Aaron saying "how often are you eating mayonnaise that you want to waste one of your fingers on this?" Needless to say I had to hit the skip back button a couple times. Love the podcast!
When Nate says something crazy like, "if you got $10 million you couldn't retire." I just have to shake my head. Even if I got taxed at 40% and had $6 million left, I could retire. I will only have a high tax liability the first year. If I place that money in various high interest accounts I can live off of the interest alone going forward, for the most part. (for example, 4% on that amount is $240,000. I make 1/5th of that right now. I think I'd be just fine.)
I live in Sarasota, Florida but recently had to fly out of Tampa. Having never been there before, I took pictures of where I left my car in the garage. When I returned the next day, I asked someone where the parking garage was and they pointed me to a tram. Ten minutes into my tram ride I thought “I did not take a tram to get here”. Needless to say I wandered around a satellite lot for an hour before finally asking a cop to help me. I showed her the photos of where I parked and she said “bless your heart sweetie, you aren’t close”. Needed the find car on Google maps for sure
I went to Bowling Green Sunday night to watch your show! I bought my tickets last December and have been looking forward to this show for months! It was AWESOME! as I expected it to be!! Your dad was great and the show was so good! I would pay to see the same show again! I’ll see Dusty there in November! You guys are great!!
I love the “if it’s the only restaurant you can eat at debate.” Aaron and Dusty attack like he said you have to eat here every meal. The question should have been simplified for them, as if you go out to eat you can only eat at this one restaurant and to that Nate is correct. Also please discuss best fast food Chicken place. Thank you.
1:51:00 I love how the one time Nate questions Dusty’s “conspiracy theories” and expresses concern over whether they should be looking something up, it’s about climate zones, a completely normal concept in agriculture and environmental science 🤣
As someone who is from Illinois, I wondered what would happen when you talked about my state. Besides, being your guest on the pod or you talking about my home town of New Minden (population 250 according to the sign), you guys did a great job. Thank you for not just talking about Chicago, but covering the rest of the state too!
it is KILLING ME that none of you are calling out Illinois as one of the most recognizeable states on the map IN THE ILLINOIS EPISODE!! You put that sucker on a piece of paper all on it's lonesome and no way you aren't calling that one out by name. Not even top 25? CMON! Love you guys, thanks for the laughs every week
Hello Folks. My daughter is stationed in Las Vegas with the air force. She surprised me with tickets to see Nate on June 9th. Can't wait to see him live. You guys are the best. Love the podcast!!!!
Nate- my daughter is dyslexic also, and she has a hard time reading. We always point out all the brilliant people who have Dyslexia that have made a success of their lives in spite of their reading challenges. Henry Winkler is one of our favorites too. He has a great series of books that discuss this subject too. You’re an inspiration to our daughter and we thoroughly enjoy your comedy. We are also Christian and feel if we wouldn’t say it in front of God, we don’t say it. Clean comedy is a must in our household. Thank you for all you do.
Wednesday! My favorite day of the week. Plus the fact that we saw Nate last nite In Dayton, Oh. Great show, especially when his dad thanked the audience for 'loving his son' ❤❤❤
I became an instant fan of Nate’s comedy in 2019 after seeing The Tennessee Kid, and have been a weekly listener of the podcast from the get-go. It wasn’t until the last handful of episodes that I noticed a particular ism that comes up occasionally, and thought I’d check in for some answers. I hear Nate consistently say “we’re” instead of “we’ll”. Example: “we’re talk about that next time,” or “we’re be in Nashville next weekend,” etc. Are we supposed to add in the word “going” on our own as a part of the “we’re” contraction? As someone from the Northwest, I wasn’t sure if it might a Southern thing, although I’ve only heard Nate say it. This is my first comment/question, and figured this would be an opportune time to mention y’all are great and hope to see you come through Portland-Nate please come back, you were unbelievable.
I am all about that layover. 4.5 hrs makes me stir crazy. I've connected in Iceland before on a Trans Atlantic flight so I could get off and stretch out.
This is the only podcast I listen to where the title tells me very little about what the podcast is actually going to be about. The kings of random content. Should have your own genre. Kudos to Bucephalus for keeping the guys on track and sliding in those ad reads!
In the altruism discussion,Dusty hit the nail on the head when he said it's about why you help someone, not whether you feel good about it afterwards. As Nate said, of course you're going to feel good about it. Dusty made that point at least 3 times before anyone picked up on it. Also, FYI Aaron, the first syllable of altruism is pronounced like the name Al. Nate got that right the first time. Quite often, by the way, Nate pronounces names right with his first guess.
I don’t know if I just miss you guys now that I’m caught up with you and have to wait a week to see the new show but every week just seems funnier and funnier! I’ve laughed so hard through this one! Lots in this one to be used for the EIY-23 recap sound bites! 🙌. See ya next week! Best of luck with the babe Dusty! Can’t wait for all the details when he or she gets here. 😊
Hey Fellas, Longtime caller first time listener. 😉 After hearing that Dusty is still looking for suggestions on baby names I came up with a few that I thought might work: (In no particular order) Maximus Slay Remington Slay Stark Slay Wyatt Slay Thank you all for the clean comedy and wholesome entertainment you bring to everyone's lives, it is truly a welcome sight.
First time listener, long time caller here. (That one’s for Nate) Can we get an Illinois pt 2 episode? As much as we love the side tangents, IL has so much more to offer than just Springfield and Dixson. For example, Chicago’s MLS team is called ‘Chicago Fire’ maybe to the irony of the historical Chicago Fire?? Keep up the good work champs
Love the podcast and loved seeing you live at Red Rocks. You and your Dad were amazing! My five year old also enjoys your podcast and whenever we visit the local mall, she runs up to the various bear statues in the mall and says “Hey Bear 🐻”
The fact that Nate who (like me) sometimes has a hard time pronouncing some words, nailed "worcestershire" is one of the funniest things. When I heard it brought up I was all excited to hear him say it. Thinking, like me he was going to destroy the pronunciation. But not only did he say it correctly, he said all three different versions.
As for the snail chase the key is being able to see the snail before it touches you and then not running from it but rather catching it and keeping it in a sealed container. It can live forever in a jar in my freezer.
Hey Bear! My mom lives in Casey, IL (pronounced Kay-Z). Big things in a small town! It all started with the world's largest wind chime, and then it took off! You can see these giant things all over town (wooden nickel, knitting needles, top, mouse trap, pencil, teeter-totter......and on and on). If you decide to go and need a tour guide, let me know and I can have her show you around. She can even give you a tour of the workshop where they make and maintain these massive creations. It's a good time.
In most of the podcasts there's a crack-up moment for me. In the AI podcast that moment was when the discussion shifted effortlessly from AI to an impassioned and well-informed discussion of A-1 steak sauce. Pure Nateland!
Aaron, I’m about to rock your world- the at home recipe for Chick fil A sauce is: mustard, mayo, bbq, honey, and ranch. What I’m saying is: save the finger you reserved for chic fil a sauce and make your own with the sauce from the other fingers plus some ranch from you are. You can now have all the sauces and still have hand sanitizer too. You’re welcome. 😂
I grew up thinking there was a Springfield in every state, but when you pulled up that map I was shocked to see it wasn't true. More than that, I was confused to see 67 Springfields in less than 50 states. Upon further investigation, it turns out that *according to this* Michigan and Indiana have 2 Springfields, while New Jersey has 3, Virginia has 4, and Wisconsin takes the crown with 5. Every week I become more and more thankful for this educational podcast.
Can you imagine 75 Buttered Biscuits de boarding then reboarding the plane? I don’t care if that layover is 6 hours or 10 minutes and you can’t get off. At least one Biscuit is not making the connecting flight. Nate grab you a Hot n Spicy with mayo and cheese only and dip that bad boy in some hot mustard, the bees knees. Thirdly, that snail is going to live the remainder of his life in a small box, possibly in the form of an aquarium. Boom, case solved. Keep up the work!
After 151 episodes of Nate’s ineptitude at reading less-commonly-used words and phrases, the worst verbal miscue to occur on this show officially belongs to Blasphemy’s butchery of Nauvoo (Naw-Voo). Love the show. Keep it coming.
Does anyone else notice how Dusty will put a “t” on words that end in “d?” For example, roaT instead of road, gooT instead of good, etc. I noticed it and now I CANNOT stop noticing! Love you guys, I look forward to listening every single week!
Amalgam is when you mix mercury with other metals and they are sometimes liquid. Gold being a soft metal can be liquid with just the right amount of mercury.
NATE - I adore you and will see you in Dayton Friday - but you’ve got to chill on your “grouchy old man” bit. Or just take it all the way and wear a scowl through the podcast😉
I am an Orthopedic Surgery PA. Argument for altruism being possible would be certain times in the medical field. Example, a gangbanger needs emergency surgery, they essentially get the same treatment as everyone else. The job is to provide good no matter the circumstances. You might could argue well you do it for the money. 1. Some people are on salary and get paid whether this patient shows up or not. 2. You think gangbangers walk around with insurance? 3. Ask a nurse about their worst patient and if they would have paid money to not have them as a patient. On a much smaller scale a patient will brag on the surgeon how good their scar looks when I was the one that closed the incision site, so I did that for nothing haha. Fortunately, I live in a great small town in Alabama so we don’t have to worry about this often! Thanks for the entertainment guys!
Hey Bear! In Utah we eat mayo and ketchup mixed together religiously. We call it fry sauce. Pretty sure if you asked a group of people, most would include it on their 5 finger condiment selection. 😂 Thanks for all the laughs, my husband and I love the podcast.
The longest most uncomfortable flight of my life was from Seattle,WA to Kuwait. It was a military flight (on a C130), shoulder to shoulder, also you have ALL your gear, bags in your lap.
Because the city structures and sidewalks were all made of wood, it burned quickly. Then Chicago built new brick buildings and were open to skyscrapers. My great grama stood in Lake Michigan with her family, watching the city burn.🔥
Since movies come up in nearly every episode (and rightly so!), it still baffles me the movies that Nate will watch and rewatch, yet still has not see Shawshank Redemption. You guys should get together and watch it and review it on an upcoming episode. Let's make it happen!
I love the way Brian just gets verbally slapped for the most reasonable question. Then he just sits there quietly thinking about how he’s going to take over the podcast one day, fire Nate, give the kid a break and make Nate his opener, buy his plane ticket, and then take a 2 hour flight with 5 layovers.
Hey Folks. Hello bear. Went back and was listening to the “Aliens” episode and heard the topic of the Cowboy Church that Beefcake worked in Montgomery. I live in Conroe, which is north of Houston, and there a lot of Cowboy churches. The basis behind it is it’s a judgment free place where you don’t have to dress up (or cowboy wear). Anyone is welcome, but most of them look and feel like you’re at a ranch. Love the show. Coming to the show in Ft Worth later this year.
Love the topic of altruism. I think the thing that gets most confused in this discussion is the difference between “I feel good because I did the nice deed” and “I did the nice deed and then I feel good”. Like Nate says “I reacted on instinct and afterwards whatever feelings I feel don’t matter”. Just because you feel good after does not mean I was hoping to feel good before. Altruism is not impossible; physiologists thinking they’re smarter me and arguing like babies are impossible.
Have a feeling Athletic Greens could make more money from Nateland podcast listeners if they just did a merch collaboration. Put AG1 on a T shirt and we’d be all over it.
Aaron saying that getting a tumor is “worth it to save a few minutes” definitely shows he is the youngest on the show, with no concept of his own mortality. Maybe he’s just trusting in that family money to get a specialist somewhere down the road, so he can afford to worry about a few minutes here and there.
Nate making fun of college is ironic after the altruism debate. Nate did exactly what college professors try to teach students to do in class: he challenged the professor’s argument by providing examples; he listened as the guys explained that the example good deeds he provided weren’t truly altruistic because they make you feel good; he realized that based on the professor’s definition of altruism, it probably is impossible; and then he concluded by providing his own argument that the definition of altruism is unfair/unhelpful because it is part of human nature to feel good when helping others. Nate would make a great liberal arts college student!
Hi Nate, Brian, Aaron, and Dusty, regarding the snail/money conversation, could you buy a terrarium to keep it in? One it couldn’t escape? That way you’d also know where it is at all times and could coexist peacefully and worry free. I absolutely love the podcast! Thank you for all the guilt free laughs :-) Grace
I flew a red eye from Tel Aviv to San Francisco, just over 15 hours. With the exception of two bathroom breaks, I slept the whole time. I was in the last row by the bathroom. When I woke up after landing, the lady next to me said “you are a champion sleeper”. Needless to say, I prefer less layovers. 😅
My 9 year old is currently in surgery getting a tumor removed from his neck (not cancer) and even though I trust fully God is in control and no matter the outcome His will is perfect, I am thankful for this podcast to bring something light. Thanks guys for sitting in a room talking about nothing important and thanks Nate for adding a little comedy to the conversation.
I went to Malaysia and the total air time was like 25 hours. We did the first 14 hours and then had a layover in Sadia Arabia for 11 hours. We could not leave the airport and there was like no other people in the whole place. Then we hopped on our second flight that was 100 percent full, of people with some kind of viral caugh for 11 hours. Wouldn't recommend that. On the return we had to change plains but it was a run to make our connection. Still not sure if I would want to have a layover or not.
The visual on this podcast is SO funny! It’s the only one I would rather watch than only listen to!! Dusty with his constant fidgeting, Aaron fiercely trying not to laugh at Dusty’s ad reads, Nate’s side eye at Breakfast, Bubbly’s adorable bobble head smile while he tries endlessly to direct the conversation! 🤣🤣🤣
The Great Chicago Fire jumped the river because the river was incredibly polluted. The river actually burned as well due to the pollutants in it. Also, with Chicago being very windy, it is easy for fire to spread and hard to contain it.
There is absolutely a breakfast menu at Cheesecake Factory - and it is delicious. It’s a weekend brunch menu. I was getting real fired up, but then I remembered that out of all the states you names that are apparently so “obvious,” I could only identify California, Texas, and Florida. And I even looked real hard for a state with little legs. (I’ve lived my entire life in CA and Las Vegas)
The first McDonald’s is totally still in Des Plaines and has been turned into a museum. I’m surprised Nate didn’t pick McDonald’s as his one restaurant to eat at. I also used to caddie for the family that invented the Twinkie!
I love how when Nate argues he initially bull dozes any other opinions and refuses to accept defeat, but also in the process of making his point he ends up arguing both sides by himself and never coming to a conclusion.
I would argue that some people don’t do things so they will feel good, but so they don’t feel BAD. I’ve always had some anxiety and one thing that triggers it is feeling like I did the wrong thing. If I passed someone looking for their child and didn’t stop to help them, my conscience would eat my soul alive while trying to fall asleep that evening lol
Anyone else immediately think of the Parking Garage episode of Seinfeld with Aaron's story? Hope it didn't turn out like Seinfeld with Lucy's fish dying and Aaron and his friend in mall jail.
Hello folks, love the podcast. I couldn’t help but laugh uncontrollably when Aaron said he wouldn’t want to spend too much time in the Denver airport. My reason for this was that about 5 years ago my friends and I were leaving our spring break trip and ended up at the Denver airport right before what we were told was a horrendous storm called a bomb cyclone was to hit, it ended up shutting down the whole airport and cancelling all flights. It was so bad outside that we physically couldn’t leave to go to a hotel. We had to spend the night in the airport which was interesting to say the least. Wanted to know if any of you have had to spend the night in an airport and/or what you would do if you were in my situation?

It's 4am and the episode drops. This is the few positives a of night shift 😂
I've been a subscriber to the channel since before the first episode... all 350-400 some subscribers when I joined.
My daughter lives in Peoria and we saw Nate there in November 2022. I live in Quincy and the whole Chicago things gets old!

ILLINOIS!! Our time has come 🎉🎉
Nate, Dusty, Aaron and Black Bean Breakfast Burrito -
My husband and I have been huge fans since we stumbled across Nate’s special, Tennessee Kid, in 2019 one night while browsing Netflix.
Nate is the epitome of the quote "A candle doesn't lose it's flame by lighting another candle"
Also, give your dad his own special!
Aaron trying not to laugh and making Dusty laugh like 5th grade boys is so cute and funny ❤😂
Sometimes I skip the ad reads but never when Dusty is reading. Aaron’s stifled laughter the whole time is so funny 😅
My favorite part lol
AJ1 😁
And that's why Laura does the finances lol
Aaron breaking down the ridiculousness of wasting a finger on a condiment, Nate thinks about it, and still wants the hot mustard. 😂😂😂
As someone who is from Illinois, I wondered what would happen when you talked about my state. Besides, being your guest on the pod or you talking about my home town of New Minden (population 250 according to the sign), you guys did a great job. Thank you for not just talking about Chicago, but covering the rest of the state too!
Nate making fun of birthstones age always feels like Michael making fun of Phyllis’ age.
it is KILLING ME that none of you are calling out Illinois as one of the most recognizeable states on the map IN THE ILLINOIS EPISODE!!
We are stationed here also and went to the show. It was great!!
Happy Wednesday-luv u guys!
Nate has discussed the fact he pronounces we’ll as we’re mixing up his r and l sound.
I am all about that layover. 4.5 hrs makes me stir crazy. I've connected in Iceland before on a Trans Atlantic flight so I could get off and stretch out.
"I dont need to bring my phone. Someone in my entourage will have a phone." - The Greatest Average American
I had to laugh at Brian pronouncing Nauvoo Illinois! He made it sound much fancier than it is! 😂
Watched this episode just to see the AG1 ad read. Best part of the pod
Hey Fellas,
Longtime caller first time listener. 😉 After hearing that Dusty is still looking for suggestions on baby names I came up with a few that I thought might work:
(In no particular order)
Maximus Slay
Remington Slay
Stark Slay
Wyatt Slay
Thank you all for the clean comedy and wholesome entertainment you bring to everyone's lives, it is truly a welcome sight.
I like Stark Slay 🎉
Classy people (Nate, Dusty, Brian, and Aaron) bring out the best in others. Love the podcast. Keep up the laughs!
On the illinois episode and you are not putting Illinois in top 5 most recognizable states. It's so unique in shape. Love this podcast.
Seeing Jensen Thomas’ comment made me happy for the simple reason there is another person named Jensen out there. Godspeed Jensen Thomas.
Aaron, I saw your anniversary video today, you looked so handsome in your suit and Lucy is beautiful. Happy Anniversary ❤
Lmao “what about liquid gold, is that a thing?” -Aaron ‘collage-boy’ Weber 😂❤
For the Snail dilemma. You have 10 million dollars. Use that money to develop a way to trap the snail for good and then you dont have to live in fear.
You should do an episode on superstitions. Nate and Aaron were visibly uncomfortable when Bryan said that airline had never crashed.
That would be an incredible subject episode!!!
Hey Bear! In Utah we eat mayo and ketchup mixed together religiously. We call it fry sauce. Pretty sure if you asked a group of people, most would include it on their 5 finger condiment selection. 😂
Thanks for all the laughs, my husband and I love the podcast.
Someone needs to make a gif of Brian saying wow to Aaron about the keys. I would use it all the time.
Put Dusty Slay drinking his AG1 on a t-shirt with the phrase "Havin a good time".
Thank you for all the guilt free laughs :-)
Grace
Praying for you all!
@Faith Domster thank you so much! Surgery went great! Now its movie marathon time.
I need to see Nate’s face during Dusty’s add reads. It’s must be great while he looks at Aaron cracking up.
I think it irritates Nate! 😂
Ill be seeing you in Dayton, Ohio on the 2nd of June the 9:30pm show. I got tickets for my bday!
"This is where the demons are." 😂😂😂
Love being surprised on a late Night drive to Nateland
I'm with Nate- team cheesecake factory!
The first McDonald’s is totally still in Des Plaines and has been turned into a museum. I’m surprised Nate didn’t pick McDonald’s as his one restaurant to eat at. I also used to caddie for the family that invented the Twinkie!
Nateland shirts that say something like, “We’re all just doing a bit here.” (Dusty) and “The world is a nice place and people are nice people.” (Nate)
When Nate said "Illinois, make some ill-a-noise" and no one noticed, was so funny to me! I laughed out loud hard!
I always love how Adam starts cracking as soon as Dusty starts reading 😂
Aaron’s Irish accent was really good in my opinion, what accents does everyone do best?
OOOOooo.... excellent topic idea! I'd LOVE to hear their perspective and attempts on accents.
Altruism does exist, what does a soldier who jumps on a grenade benefit?
Brian's dejected 'yes' to Nate's Dyslexia was pretty funny.
The B.A.N.D. Of nateland. Your names are perfectly match for this title
