I was amazed in Bergen to find a public toilet where I had to use a credit card to pay 20kr to get in - then I put my card in the slot for the disabled toilet by mistake - then I couldn't get out because the door stuck!!! If my son hadn't phoned me to find out where I'd gone, I'd probably still be in there! :P (The nappies are a good idea! haha)
Yes, there will almost always be free toilets in places like shopping centres, but railway stations do charge. Had my most expensive pee ever at a small-town station in Norway (too long to wait before I could use the toilet on the train!). It was "only" 10 kr. (1 euro) BUT you had to pay by credit or debit card (that's another peculiarity of life in Norway: hardly anyone uses cash for ANYTHING!). When I checked my bank statement after returning home I saw that I'd been charged the 10 kr. plus almost the same amount again for making my "foreign transaction"...
This guy is crazy. Norway is actually the 3rd most expensive country in the world to live at after switzerland and Liechtenstein Am not Norwegian but know the place and this guy seriously lost the plot. He is on about stuff at 1 € stores at a few immigrant no go zones while a one bedroom dump in Oslo easily cost you 5 to way more k €/month with an energy bill from 1000€ and more. Having one beer there will cost you 20€. Is he even in Norway?
This post is a lie^ the only store in America mentioned above that everything costs 1$ is dollar tree every other store mentioned has items that run from 1$ up to 20$
First thing, you deserve an appreciation for collecting all those things which is Available for €1. This video is really helpful for budget travellers especially for Norway tourists. And finally, not only you have let us know the food items but also most required thing for women, sanitary pads, without any hesitation or shyness. This shows your concern and manly attitude. I really liked it 😊. That's a big thanks for making such video and all the best for future.
After the value of the NOK went down the prices of food in Norway has increased like crazy especially for sweets I spend over 3500 on food every month u really have to know exactly what and from where to buy food in order get the best food for a reasonable price A very interesting video keep up the awesome content!
I don't understand why you think that's a lot of money. In Portugal, we spent like 150-200€ on food every month, but we don't make nearly as much money as you do. Where the hell you do spend all your money? I mean, even the transports here are just as expensive as yours. Don't you all make more then 20000 NOK a month for a full time job?
Yes, I also did think Norwegians are financially well-off because their government shares the royalties from their oil with the entire population. They have offered Canadian politicians advice on how we too could all benefit from the oil being extracted and sold from Canada's Western provinces. But for some reason, they have not accepted Norway's offer of consultation/advice (As someone from Eastern/Central Canada, I sure wish they would. The natural resources could be shared for everyone!)
We have those same cookies in the US, but they are a Mexican brand called Galletas Marias (Maria cookies). I loved them too! My mom would crumble them up with butter to make a crust for cheesecake. I just found your channel and I'm hooked. You guys are so funny and creative. You make learning about Norway fun!
We write currency this way: $1.00;$0.10 or 10 with a c with a line down the middle for cents. The last two are both correct when it comes to change. $1,999.44; for larger amounts.
Here in New Mexico, we have an actual dollar store ("Dollar Tree") that has a good assortment of greeting cards 2 for one dollar. You can also get a mylar balloon blown-up with helium. The things though that are probably the best value are the quart size bottles of apple cider vinegar and lemon juice. Thank you, Ronald et.al.
I genuinely think it would be more cost efficient to plan a trip to Norway, buy a ton of diapers, and come back. Like you could probably pay for 3 trips to Norway with how expensive diapers are here in the states. When my niece was little we had to buy her a pack a few times. It was like $49 for 250 diapers if I remember correctly. And those were the basic diapers. She had super sensitive skin and needed those special sensitive skin diapers. But yeah, $49 for 250. If you bought any less it was super inefficient. Why would I pay $19.95 for 50 when I could get 250 for $49?? And as much as babies shit and piss you'd be through that box in no time.
we have stores in the US called "Dollar Stores" some of the stuff is cheap junk, but some of it is a great buy. for example you can buy enough ground coffee to make 40 cups of coffee for one dollar there! breakfast cereal $1. , frozen dinner $1. tons of good buys if you are a good shopper
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHA you always make me laugh, guys! Tusen takk! With one real (Brazilian money) you can't buy a lot of things, but I'll do the exercise. And Ronald, I'm sorry to say this, but this isn't the right way to test a sanitary napkin 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 big hug and tusen takk igjen!
1.5 liters of carbonated water at Aldi/Lidl Germany is 25 eurocents and Aldi Netherlands 39 eurocents. A six-pack of half liter bottles is 86 eurocents at Aldi Netherlands. You cannot buy chlorine in German supermarkets, but you can in the Netherlands and the price is about the same. It doesn't really clean, it just discolors the dirt. Potatoes are about 1 euro for 1.5 kilograms in Germany and the Netherlands. All the other products can be bought in Germany and the Netherlands for the same price or a bit cheaper. The store chain called 'Action' should open in Norway and they could get filthy rich, because you Norwegians love cheap, don't you? I suppose that is because Norway is quite expensive.
@@YOURWAY2NORWAY The dutch are famous for being greedy, but I lived in Germany for 7 years and they are not different. I think everybody likes low prices and the people found out that the quality of unknown brands can be as good as the quality of the famous brands. As a matter of fact, a lot of unknown brands are made in the same factory by the famous brands. Especially Germans are very good in finding out by which factory an Aldi or Lidl product is actually made.
Another great video, guys! Since Norway is well known for being a really expensive place, I would never guess that you have such cheap things. awesome production and quality, as always. Had misses your videos, it was a while since the two last ones. Which, btw, I haven't watched yet, but is saved in my watch later playlist :)
+Kronos Araya Ola Leonardo :) Obrigado. Very nice to hear from you again. We know that Norway has a reputation for being expensive, so it was a easy topic for a video. And easy to record and edit. The video you are saving is about summer in Oslo. Hope you like it. Now we are leaving for Portugal. Ate ja :)
I wish we could get a $1 can of fish balls. It would be a great asset in supplying needed nutrition for those on a fixed budget. You used to be able to buy 2 or even 3 cans of tuna fish for one dollar but now the best I have seen is about 70 cents per with better brands being around $1.50 a can. Now the pay toilet did not survive here. It looked to be the wave od the future in the 70s but Americans reacted strongly against it. The more passive took the filthy route and crawled under stalls (we never had pay urinals to my knowledge and I imagine that pissed off the ladies) or just refused to patronize places with them. The more demonstrative kicked in doors or paid and then trashed or clogged the bowls in protest. While we eventually accepted the European concept of paying for bottled water (despite uproarious laughter at first) we drew the line at paying to squat FREEDOM! That diaper deal is great. We have some dollar store diapers (but not that cheap) but there is such a huge absorbency difference that only severe desperation would force parents to buy them. My wife once shredded a packet I brought home and threw the tattered remains at me for buying them. I expect yours are much better quality though. Anyway, very interesting overview of bargains in Norway. The more I watch of your videos the more I feel that Norway is the spiritual homeland of practical men such as myself.
I just recently discovered your great channel and am I glad I did! Your videos are fun (you cracked me up with that sanitary pad strength test) and informative. Wow - $2 to use a public restroom? The Marie biscuits are actually a version of a Mexican cookie called Maria's. They are indeed very dry, but sweet & tasty. Pair amazingly well with a glass of milk or hot coffee.

Where people donate clothes home items and they are sold for cheap . Goodwill etc. REUSE. Someone's old is another's treasure! Great vlog! Thank u.
Oh jeez , you’re hilarious. 2 Euros for a bathroom remind me of my friend who came back from a tour to Israel. She claims , she spent more for public bathrooms than for dinners.
Our public bathrooms are free. We have a chain of stores called Dollar Tree and they carry thousands of items from food to toys al for $1. Almost every grocery store here has a section with dozens of items for only $1.
+Ram Nathan That is really amazing to hear! Before making this video, I thought we where the only ones who eat this. Now I know it's loved all over the world ;)
Yeah, I'm fairly sure you can get Marie cookies in the 'international' aisles of the discount grocery stores here in Canada too. Probably the same price as Norway though. Our diapers and sanitary napkins are more expensive than theirs though.
A pack of diapers for 1 euro is amazing. I'm shocked that there is a pay toilet in Norway and not to mention that it costs a whopping 2 euros. Well, perhaps they are the cleanest around.
Who knew a packet of Ol Elpaso taco seasoning was all that was needed to dress up the taste of fish balls in Norway! You learn something new every day! Lmao!

The BEST and ONLY fish balls are Vesterålens Fiskeboller - (Vesteråls Fish Balls). I am very disappointed that you bought the cheap brand which has no fish in it !!!! I thought you were a patriot and supporter of Norwegian fishing and farming.......... If you are so poor then I will get the factory to send you some real Vesteråls fish balls. Do people know that fish in Norway have balls ? They also have very yummy tongues....:-)
Hei Ade :) Lol, I am not sure if they know. If Vesterålens Fiskeboller had cost 1 euro we would of course have showed it! Much better then the first price.
Smarties in the US are fruit-flavored candies. The price is about $3 for an 18 ounce bag. Great video, very informative and entertaining! Just found your channel and I can’t seem to get enough of Norway!
In the US we have little plastic wrapped tubes, heat sealed at both ends, with six (count em!) small, colorful, very thin sugar coated balls with cheap, poor tasting chocolate inside, called Sixlets. I know, I just ate one and wondered why I wasted calories on THAT. Smarties are small fruit flavored, chalky wafers, no chocolate, wrapped in a tube of plastic paper and twisted at both ends, equally poor quality as Sixlets candy and equally popular to give to kids at Halloween. Now you know about our two crappiest candies in the US. I am sure there are more, kids eat anything.
Everyone who visited Norway says food is very expensive. One reason could be high tax. In Canada, just the opposite. Our govt heavily subsidizes food industry to keep price lower.
Yes, we have high taxes. But in the end for an avarage Norwegian food is not that expencieve due to our salaries. I think we spend like 10 - 15 % of our income on food.
While there are agricultural subsidies in Canada to our farmers there is no equilateral subsidies for food for Canadians. Southern Canadians, in particular, in the large urban centres we might pay a lower price for food but in the North and Far North Like Whitehorse food prices are insanely expensive. While my understanding of Norway, yet while prices can be more expensive, food prices are more uniform from the more populated urban regions to the more rural norther regions. Canada needs to do a better job supplying the north. It like we live in two worlds in one country. www.businessinsider.com/food-prices-high-northern-canada-2017-9 www.huffingtonpost.ca/margaret-whitley/food-prices-canada-north_a_23552084/
I have a question for a typical tip in a hotel. usually after staying, leaves one dollar in a room. but not only 10 kr but also 1 euro is a coin. as a foreigner, I don't know how much money put on room?
hi there, Kim. Thanks for the comment. In Norway it is not that normal to tip the hotel staff. If you want to, there is a rule: 8-10 percent. Hotels a bit less. But anything anything less than, say 5-8 euros would be a small offense :)
I live in United States of America. We never charge anyone any where to use the bathroom. We think it's absurd to charge! I would rather go outside than pay to use the bathroom!
Many people in many countries, sadly (not in Canada -- yet, thank goodness). Just wait. It will happen in North America sooner than you think. At least we can still drink the water from our taps. Hope that continues in my lifetime!
@@HRHDMKYT Pay restrooms are not really a thing in the USA. Most establishments voluntarily provide restrooms to customers (and rarely, except in high crime areas, deny the use to even non-customers). Also, many municipalities have public restrooms, especially in touristy spots, busy shopping districts, etc. All major retail stores have them, most smaller stores as well, every restaurant, every office or municipal building, even parks and recreation centers. Some small businesses refuse to allow restroom access out of fear of theft, etc. but mostly we recognize the "right to pee". The only pay units that I have seen are at public beaches, in part to deter the use of the restroom for changing of swim suits, etc. If you get out into the rural areas, they may be harder to find just because businesses or public buildings are fewer, however, most small businesses in rural areas will even allow you to use their employee restroom. Also, many states (around 15+) have enacted laws that mandate that people who ask to use a restroom in a business cannot be denied, providing that they have a medical condition like colitis or other bowel related disorders that make finding another restroom a one-way ticket to soiling themselves. I actually believe that Australia issues a "Can't Wait" card for the same reason...

Yes, but then my delicate north american stomach would not be able to handle the food, and I'd have to find a toilet. Would I find one? Would I have to pay to use it? I'm too afraid to travel to India, even though I'm sure it's a beautiful country... :-)

Live in Louisiana my grandparents where born in Norway grew up on fiskabula my mom would make a cream sauce and add shrimp and boiled potatoes, one of my favorite dishes.
Other countries are less squeamish about menstruation and such. Most American men would never do this. And there isnt a brand of diapers in America that are 1$, I wish.
Strange. Menstruation is a vital and trivial part of life - so why dont have some fun about it. Thanks for engaging Katie Dorton. I will send you some of ours ;)
@@YOURWAY2NORWAY I live in a rural part of Virginia in the United states, most men here wont even go down the sanitary aisle....... which sadly is the aisle they also keep the diapers on. This is why menstruation is still shunned in so many parts of the world because so many men and other people think its something nasty or unhealthy. The taboo surrounding it is why so many women still suffer poor personal hygiene. We have dollar stores , but most of them sell items costing up to 20$.
@@katherinedorton4562 Then they are not "$1 Stores", they are "Dollar General" or one of its ilk, fooling people to shop there by using DOLLAR in the name. There are quite a number of everything in the store costs only $1 plus tax type stores all over the USA. Those $1 stores carry small packs of not the greatest diapers. It must just be your location. Also, hygiene is a matter of teaching and self respect. For a woman, especially in her menstrual period, to have poor personal hygiene has a lot less to do with any presumed "taboo" than laziness, bad body image, and basic slovenliness. If you are raised in a pigpen, you are most likely going to smell like a pig. I've encountered no serious "shunning" of menstruation by men or women in my lifetime as a small town or city dweller. Maybe the backwoods hold onto those backwoods attitudes longer...
Katie Dorton, In my experience "most American men" don't seem to have any problem about menstruation. Maybe they don't like making a mess of the bed when a woman is in this state, but that's about the extent of it. All of the men in my life, including my father born in 1919, have had no trouble buying, handling, being seen shopping for, etc. menstrual products. (OR cleaning out a trash bin with properly wrapped pads, etc. in it.) Maybe you are surrounded by a bunch of men with bad attitudes/squeamishness about menstruation. Don't paint an entire nation with your bias. The fact that men control most of the media in this country and there are god-awful amounts of advertisements for menstrual products on TV, in print, etc. seems to disprove your theory.
@@AlbredaWelde I think she was doing a bit of good ol' American man-hating. Maybe she should step out of her rural area of Virginia before speaking for most American men. I've never heard of this so-called world wide menstruation shunning, but then again I'm not tuned into that... maybe that's her mission in life. Lol!

He is on about stuff at 1 € stores at a few immigrant no go zones while a one bedroom dump in Oslo easily cost you 5 to way more k €/month with an energy bill from 1000€ and more. Having one beer there will cost you 20€. Is he even in Norway?
This post is a lie^ the only store in America mentioned above that everything costs 1$ is dollar tree every other store mentioned has items that run from 1$ up to 20$
Bahahahaha!!!!!!
yea, Dollar Tree is the only one where everything is only $1.
Exactly!
After the value of the NOK went down the prices of food in Norway has increased like crazy especially for sweets I spend over 3500 on food every month u really have to know exactly what and from where to buy food in order get the best food for a reasonable price
A very interesting video keep up the awesome content!
+Adam David Thanks for adding facts to our video! And for being nice to us :)
This was hilarious! I have no idea why your videos popped up in my suggestions, but I am so glad they did. New sub from the U.S.😂😂😂
I love Norway more and more, the longer I watch your videos.
Thanks for the intro.....it gave me a lot of tips before i move there!!
Cool to hear. Welcome to Norway 🤗
Wow! The fish in Norway have really big balls! You can't even see the balls on American fish!
Haha
Put some taco seasoning on them and fry them up lol!
Wow! I had no idea you would be so entertaining!! I really like this video!
Well done🎉
Here in New Mexico, we have an actual dollar store ("Dollar Tree") that has a good assortment of greeting cards 2 for one dollar. You can also get a mylar balloon blown-up with helium. The things though that are probably the best value are the quart size bottles of apple cider vinegar and lemon juice. Thank you, Ronald et.al.
Thanks a lot for sharing your story with us boncoon 😀😀
🤣🤣 you killing us with your story 🤣🤣 Tusen takk
we have stores in the US called "Dollar Stores" some of the stuff is cheap junk, but some of it is a great buy. for example you can buy enough ground coffee to make 40 cups of coffee for one dollar there! breakfast cereal $1. , frozen dinner $1. tons of good buys if you are a good shopper
Cool to learn. Thanks for sharing :)
@@YOURWAY2NORWAY I just tasted my "Dollar Store's" coffee this morning......not worth the dollar ;)
So funny when you put the pad on your head ! I like this video!
+Maria Amaral Lol. I am so sorry. First time I test it. You make us very happy with your comment. Muito obrigado :)
Maria Amaral é raro ver brasileiros por aqui, haha. Prazer :)
Kronos Araya Olha só! Brasileiro tem em todo lugar, né não? 😂 prazer é meu!
Maria Amaral sempre! Kkkkkk.
Amo esse canal, pois sou um grande admirador da Noruega. Você mora aí?
Yeah, probably the reason low prices are hot here. Thanks for sharing your story!
@@YOURWAY2NORWAY
The dutch are famous for being greedy, but I lived in Germany for 7 years and they are not different.
I have been watching your videos for a couple of weeks now. I have to say you make my day a lot brighter. Thanks!
cut the potato into 20 pieces, fill a trash barrel with dirt and mix in the pieces, BAM... 3 months later 20 potatoes.
really? HMM
I just recently discovered your great channel and am I glad I did! Your videos are fun (you cracked me up with that sanitary pad strength test) and informative. Wow - $2 to use a public restroom? Are they luxurious or something? Can you show us inside one of those $2 restrooms? Have a great day and thank you! - Brenda in PA (USA)

theres many vegan places in Norway js. Many resturants and shops. I have fellow vegan friends in Norway and they never got issues with this.
if u guys check out norway on tripadvisor. You can search for vegan resturants 👌👌 ha en fortsatt fin dag
The Marie biscuits are actually a version of a Mexican cookie called Maria's. They are indeed very dry, but sweet & tasty. Pair amazingly well with a glass of milk or hot coffee.

As an ex-pat Norwegian, no they are not sadly. Ronald and his mate are awesome
We have In USA, Dollar stores. Everything is a dollar. Food, stationary, candy cards, dishes, housewares. Everything. Do u have thrift stores in Norway? Where people donate clothes home items and they are sold for cheap . Goodwill etc. REUSE. Someone's old is another's treasure!
Great vlog! Thank u.
Hi teraysa919. Yes we have. And luckily reuse have become a trend.
50% interesting 25% Funny 25% cringe.
+Pero Ventinostra Hi. Thats a good summery Pero Ventinostra. Nice to hear from you again

I've seen those🍪 in Mumbai LOL
Yeah, I'm fairly sure you can get Marie cookies in the 'international' aisles of the discount grocery stores here in Canada too. Probably the same price as Norway though. Our diapers and sanitary napkins are more expensive than theirs though.
The water is actually expensive considered its off brand water, in Germany a 1,5 liters off brand water is 19 cents.
Well we drink Voss water straight from the tap
Bahahahaa you are hilarious. Good thing those diapers are so cheap!!!!
Thanks 😘
A pack of diapers for 1 euro is amazing. I'm shocked that there is a pay toilet in Norway and not to mention that it costs a whopping 2 euros. Well, perhaps they are the cleanest around.
Who knew a packet of Ol Elpaso taco seasoning was all that was needed to dress up the taste of fish balls in Norway! You learn something new every day! Lmao!

Yes, however, bathrooms through Europe are cleaner than the US and other places
This toilet is in the main train station, it’s not so expensive everywhere. It’s also to keep the drug addicts away. Many public toilets have blue lights so they don’t see the veins to inject the heroin :o

Oh my goodness!! Marie biscuits are also HUGELY popular in South Africa. Its a real staple here too! They look exactly the same here, the font of "Marie" on the biscuit and everything! hahaha

Loved your videos and your spirit is quite refreshing. Well done. Keep it up.

Smarties in the US are fruit-flavored candies. The price is about $3 for an 18 ounce bag.
Great video, very informative and entertaining! Just found your channel and I can’t seem to get enough of Norway!
Smarties in Canada are chocolate covered in candy
You forgot four 8-packs of First Price sausage bread for 1 euro😉
But only inn some places...
+Trygve Evensen True! Thanks for adding information 😊
And we also subsidize most of our farmers

It was not always this way! Public pay toilets were common in the U.S. in the 1950s; I do not remember when/why they disappeared.
@@miata149 My mother was born in the 40's.I asked her about this. She said she doesn't ever remember pay toilets?
The only reply I can make is he practice may have been regional, or perhaps illegal in some states.
I am so happy for you because you can use the P to make your food taste a lot lot better
Most of these things are extremely expensive; compared to USA prices.
WHO THE HELL PAYS TO USE THE BATHROOM? That's crazy!
Hahaha, Norwegians
Many people in many countries, sadly (not in Canada -- yet, thank goodness). Just wait. It will happen in North America sooner than you think. At least we can still drink the water from our taps. Hope that continues in my lifetime!
Oh yeah, many European public bathrooms cost money. In Norway its 10-20 nok, Venice its 1.5 euro, Netherlands 0.5-1 euro.
That is bonkers!

@@YOURWAY2NORWAY
I live in a rural part of Virginia in the United states, most men here wont even go down the sanitary aisle....... which sadly is the aisle they also keep the diapers on.
Lol!
They sell the same Maria biscuits in our supermarkets. Only 69 cents plus tax at the Aldi here in Illinois. We just started buying them.
In Malaysia also need to pay for using toilet in some places. But it's a good idea to store some diapers in car just in case traffic jam since it can hold so much of liquid.
