    HOW TO PRONOUNCE Æ, Ø AND Å: FUNNY LANGUAGE LESSON. A hilarious and intensive Norwegian language crash course into some strange and unique vowels and letters. We focus on correct pronunciation Which requires you to exaggerate and really act it out. The way sheep and cows speak Norwegian will also help you a lot. Your ears might bleed, like Ronald’s - when Mads use his mother’s dialect to pronounce the words with the vocals in them. Like LOVE or BEER in Norwegian.
    If you travel to Norway, visit, study or work in Norway, you will be surrounded by these comical and rare sounds. After watching this video, you will be a master of Norwegian vowels - and pronounce words like an native.
    Our classroom is a park in Oslo, with trees as our blackboard. Our learning tools are an alphabet, neon-colored letters, and total ridicule of ourselves. It gets embarrassing, hysterical, violent and cringe worthy.
    Mads annoys Ronald with one of Norway's least liked dialects. Ronald eventually gets mad and tries to escape or cover his ears when Mads sets off with his prickly sounds. Of course, we have fun and laugh a lot too. A yourway2norway (your travel guide to Norway and to understand the Norwegian culture) lesson is always entertaining and satirical. A bit sarcastic too of course. Especially in the section where we go pedagogically through various Norwegian words, such as wish, spirit, ear and open.
    Shout out to our subscriber Sebastian X for suggesting this topic! Thanks a lot Sebastian. We are sure you will be lucky among Norwegian women too after learning how to pronounce AE OE AA 😉

    Ever since my first YW2NW video, the now famous Mattpakke Classic, I've just been laughing non stop but never to the point where my sides hurt. Well, with this video I have now joined the group of people almost requiring hospitalization due to uncontrolled laughter. I mean it, this video is slated to become a classic, if it isn't already, in the annals of self-deprecating humor. The combination of weird sounds, Ronald's facial expressions, and Mum's western dialect from behind the camera is just too much to bear, so yes, I laughed until my sides hurt and I'm laughing still as I write this. Don't know if it's just me, but these two guys are some of the best comedians out there. Kudos to both of you for the great, and instructional entertainment, and keep up the great work!

    When foreigners, such as myself, are taught Norwegian we are taught the Østfold, or Eastern dialect, which thanks to Mads's examples I now know why a lot of Norwegians will speak English when they don't understand eachother. On Duolingo I'm being taught to not pronounce the "g" in words like "et døgn" (24 hours) and "fuglene" (the birds), but people from Hordaland and the rest of Western Norway will pronounce the "g". Learning about how your "Ø", "Æ", and "Å" is pronounced differently too is confusing to me. But then when I visit Bergen and speak like someone from Oslo with a heavy New York City accent they'll know I'm American...and most likely make "stupid American" jokes behind my back! XD:

    • @YOURWAY2NORWAY
      @YOURWAY2NORWAY  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Poor you! You have really entered our confusing and very complex language unviverse. Many 100 dialects and variations of the same word. But you seem to have a grip on it, so I am sure you will reserve respect and admiration soon!!

      The stupid american part of my comment was a joke at my expense.
      Anyways, mange takk Ronald!
      New video suggestion: Norwegian musikk. From traditional to modern day. Before I use Duolingo I go onto TH-cam and listen to TIX (Andreas Haukeland), Freddy Kalas, Katastrofe, HEUX, and Robin og Bugge to hear how the language is actually spoken. And I teach myself the choruses of some of their songs to help me build up my vocabulary, and learn how to say things other than "Jeg trenger vann", "Jeg tar av mine klærne", "Jeg har tre fugler", "Jeg kommer fra New York", "Katten ligger på sengen"-you get the idea.
      Even though, Duolingo has taught me the differences between "hjemme/hjem", "oppe/opp", "rød/rødt/røde". Your language is very interesting in that way, as English doesn't do that. English also doesn't have 3 words for "kusine" (cousin), but it's more descriptive that way. When I say "cousin" they could be a guy or a girl, but when you say "fetters" not only do I know you have a cousin, but now I also know that your cousin is a guy.
      On that note, why does the Norwegian language use gender?

    Mads' voice is so low that when he speaks I have a tough time understanding him. Maybe it's because he sounds as though he uses some of his dear mom's lilting and musical dialect? Nope. That's not it. Would you guys consider some subtitles for him, when he's off-camera?

    I am curious in Oslo there is a neighborhood called Grünerløkka, how the ü vowel is included in a Norwegian name?

    • @2ravens1
      @2ravens1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Manuel Fuentes Usually Norwegian and Danish don’t use ü, but German does. I’ve only seen it used in Norway in names of German origin like Simen Hegstad Krüger. Grünerløkka is named for Friedrich Grüner, a Norwegian whose father was from Germany.

      In German we have(I say we cause I speak German, but I'm Brazilian 😂😂😂) the ä, ö and ü. If it helps, in German from Austria they substitute the umlaut(the 2 dots) with an 'e', so ae, oe and ue. Maybe easier for foreigners to have an idea of the sound like that.
      With the ö and ü you have to make of the same duck lips Ronald shows in the video 😂😂 the ä sounds more like e than a.
      The difference is very subtil for someone learning it but it makes the biggest difference since a few words have only the dots to distinguish them, like the words for humid/sticky and gay in German, respectively, schwül and schwul. 😂😂😂😂

    • @YOURWAY2NORWAY
      @YOURWAY2NORWAY  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It's a leftover from other languages, think Germany. Or within that family which our language mostly springs out from. We pronounce it "y". Like in Grynerløkka. But we never name new things from Norway anything with that letter. Unless we are pretensious. Best Mads 😊

      lol....I once met a Danish American man who knew: Danish, English, French, Spanish, Italian and German, the honorable, the hardworking blonde giant who cautioned me on learning German could be quite hard, not as easy as learning the Latin languages: Spanish, Portuguese, French or Italian, English is way easier since it has some latin base but German as I imagine the other Nordic languages are really hard for us Auslanders!

    Hugs from the States!,
    Have you two considered starting a subscriber subsidized fund to finance some trips for your next videos? You guys are far too cute and entertaining to be kept in Oslo! Oslo should be paying you, as I'm positive that your videos have ramped up travel there.
    I see why you like Syden in Portugal...warm climate, beaches, and very close by air. Are there other places you prefer for holiday?
    I search your videos daily for new ones, but most of the former ones are so hilarious I watch them over and over. I enjoy Ronald's impish smiles and Mads attempts to be grumpy. His imitation of his Mom's dialect is so funny!
    When did you and Mads decide to create these videos? You deserve to be on worldwide t.v.!

But its not only money, but our ordinary work that keeps us in Oslo. And when we have vacation, as you have noticed, Portugal is our favourite. Mine is of course South America too - Chile, Bolivia and Peru. After we got in touch with so many from the States making our videos - we want to go there too. Hugs from us :):)

      The norwegian alphabet has 29 letters, and should include the letter W. We do, however, not use it in any norwegian words, only in a handful of words we stole from other languages and a few names. When it comes to pronunciation there's no difference between W and V in norwegian.

Perhaps you can also do a video about Bokmal and Nynorsk, and your dialects? As to my language, we don't have alphabets but we have different intonations which can drive non-native speakers crazy.

    English doesn't have extra letters or accents (except one rarely used). The number of same letters and order of letters and adding letters (maybe very random & complicated?) often changes pronunciation like hop, hope stop, stoop slop, sloop strip, stripe step, steep cloth, clothe etc
