@@PatrickDaviswimiwamwamwazzle It's slightly more Records than most Romance versions though. Cao Cao isn't completely evil, or unsympathethic for one. And Zhuge Liang isn't a freaking weather wizard among other changes from the Romance version.

i remember playing dynasty warriors as a kid lol and then reading about chinese history really familiarized the characters with me. and three kingdoms story is truly fascinating!
I think the reason the older Dynasty Warriors games got the names wrong might be because they were using English phonetics instead of Chinese. I do not blame them though. Chinese is difficult.
The older Dynasty Warrior games focused on the three kingdoms in their glory days, but later ones also covered the Jin that rose up near the end to win it all
You are right. My way of telling my non-Chinese friends how to pronounce the 'c' is telling them it is similar to the "t's" sound in "Let's" or any 'ts' ending word like cats hats bats etc.
@@artofthepossible7329 it is because of dialects. in mandarin, it's ts, but with more sharpness. this video was kinda accurate on that, except the first CAO is second tone and the second CAO is first tone.
That fact that you played Dynasty Warriors is probably why you guessed that the Three Kingdoms was about China. It probably rang a bell in your memory.
The reason you don't get why people get corrupted by power is that we will never have that level of power. You may think or say that you won't ever be corrupted by power but you can't really say that until you have that power, the mark of a truly great ruler is one who is not corrupted by the power they wield over their subjects, and that is a very very rare thing indeed.
If you want too you should check out dynasty warriors 7 or 8 if you ps3/xbox 360(or ps4/xb1) if you like the dynasty warriors games. If you want more fantasy elements checking out warriors orochi series is cross over with dynasty and samurai warriors together. IMO great fun games if you want some simple to play by yourself or playing with a friend or family because its a easy game to pick up and play and enjoy the story in the game. My favorite character is Jiang Wei of Shu, Wu is my favorite kingdom and IMO Cao Cao was the best leader of all three of them.
Power doesn’t corrupt it all falls on the individual, if you’re raised in nobility and haven’t worked for a thing in your life you’re bound to become corrupt if you weren’t raised with empathy for the lower classes.
Me too, DW4 was the game I played in the series the most as a kid, also DW4 Cao Cao had the most overly dramatic voice actor of the entire cast. That's why his became my favourite faction as a kid, Liu Bei had really flat voice acting, but Cao Cao in comparison was amazingly over top. To this day my brother and I still quote his Dynasty Warriors 4 lines to each other
It's Tsao Tsao which the games fixed 6 and onwards, and 6 actually was also released for the PlayStation 2 and that version had a tiny bit more content
Dynasty Warriors is a game inspired by the Novel book "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" which alters the true history of the 3 kingdoms but, it still is a good read and the game inspired by it is fun. My favorite character is Ma Chao.
Dynasty Warriors. Man that is some throwback. I remember playing Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires for hours with my brother when we were younger. Loved that game! 2 player split screen was the best! Ma Chao was my main character to use. What was your guys' characters from this or any of the other Dynasty Warriors?
sameeee ^^ I knew so much of this information already because I've played all Dynasty Warriors games from 3-8 so for this reaction I was like oh my gosh someone else who has played Dynasty Warriors. Also Cao Cao is pronounced Tsou Tsou, however the game series did call him Cao Cao up until 6 I think, in the last 3 it was corrected and changed to the Tsou Tsou pronunciation.
the C-ao C-ao, the C is like snake hissing sound. imagine the word chow from chowder, but but hiss the front bit like a snake. its like Ts- but without sounding Sao Sao that some people pronounced
I find your horror when someone kills someone else for power kind of refreshing XD Because I would just.. accept it as the way of the World at the time XD Also, some more in depth knowledge on the rule of inheritance; the emperor, as you may have noticed, had several hundreds of concubines and could also have several tens of wives. The crown prince would be chosen from one of the children of his actual wives. It would not necessarily be the oldest, mind. The woman who gave birth to the heir gained an incredible amount of prestige and/or power. Power in Chinese courts depended, obviously, on your position and also often on merit/honour. When they say the eunuchs gainned power, they likely gained ministerial roles. That is also why you often saw literal assassinations among officials.
@@jordanneedscoffee Basically, the queen mother would become the leader of the harem. Considering that any respectable family would want at least one of their daughters in the emperor's harem, that means she essentially ruled a faction with ties to every single powerful family in China. It's a tiny bit more complicated (just a smidgeon XD) but you get the gist.
A better question than "why do they become corrupt?" would be, why do people put their faith in others and not themselves? The main reason people become corrupt...
The internal strife in ancient China made the two Opium wars of the mid 19th century and the Boxer rebellion of 1900 seem like a child's play, intrigue and violence worthy of Shakespeare's Macbeth on steroids !
You're right the Dynasty Warriors games were the backbone of chinese history for the west if you weren't in a special studies program. Guan Yu for life tho. Check out the new total war game based on the 3 Kingdoms.
Honestly I am completely cool with you guys mentioning Zhao Yun and Guan Yu, but if either of you mention Jiang Wei I may explode with indignant childhood rage. If I even have to think of his whining 'Master Zhuge Liang', I loathe him.
in reality emperor Liu Shan ( son of Liu Bei) is seen as a failure, but in his view he think war is bad and to go to war with a more powerful faction is to kill his people so he decided to surrender and act dumbed in the surrender ceramony to survive.
