  • This beautiful piece is known by many names: Romanza, Spanish Romance, Romance Anonimo, Romance d'Amour.
It's a timeless beauty and although I have an other recording of it, I still think I'll rerecord it from time to time :D
Recently I visited Zurich and the weather was so nice, I decided to play guitar by the lake. I decided to record a little something for you guys, but sadly I didn't have any pro equipment so this is the best quality I was able to record.
    Hope you enjoy it!

This is cool! One of my favorite melodies in the classical guitar repertoire. Love hearing the sounds of the water and birds in the background. It adds another layer of beauty to this timeless classic.

You are so talented, with the guitar as well as the camera. It is also the first piece I ever played. Took lessons the Matteo Carcassi way when I was in my 20's, but this piece I taught myself. Now I'm 70 and don't play anymore, but I can still appreciate beauty when I see and hear it.

This is hilarious! I am surfing your videos and I told my wife, watch this ... The most underrated classical guitar piece is "Romanza or Romance". I was right! LOL. You did good! I stopped the video after a couple bars and picked up my guitar and played the whole thing from memory. Love it!

It was allegedly made famous courtesy of the 1952 French film Jeux Interdits originally accredited to Narciso Yepes who seems to have refused to admit it wasn't his. It is well worth seeing, quite a tragic film. Nino Rota also scored a later Rene Clement film, Purple Noon (aka. Plein Soleil) which was the first filmed version of The Talented Mr Ripley. I'm no expert on music, but to me parts of Rota's theme is somewhat reminiscent of the Romance Anonimo without being plagiarism of it. Maybe I'll post this on your Discord...

I have known this music since my very youngness because,as you have probably noticed, I am french and it is the soundtrack of the movie "jeux interdits" (forbidden games) as an other subscriber has noticed below.
It is a relatively easy piece to play but, as usual, you add a lot of nice feeling.
    Thanks.

@@beatrixguitar Actually I confess that me and probably most french people have never seen this movie in full ! I just know that it's a story about two children, a girl and a boy. If you find the occasion to watch it (maybe with subtitles unless you speak french as well as english) tell me your impression even if you find it boring.
Nevertheless in France, you begin to learn guitar by playing "jeux interdits" and most people think that Narcisso Yepes is the composer.
Bien à vous. Ou à toi. Greetings. Viszontlátásra !

Very nice version and performance. Good recordings as well. Although is this piece really underrated? I think a lot of people who don't even listen to classical music, would recognize this piece as a classical piece.

    • @beatrixguitar
      @beatrixguitar  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

When I say underrated, I mean that people think it's an easy little cheesy piece, but actually it takes a lot of control to master it. The bar chords in it and some of the shiftings can be quite tricky if you want to play a nice legato melody in the meantime. ANd lots of academic people look over this fact.

    • @ThisGuyRocksLikeCrazy

@@beatrixguitar oh I see what you're saying. I think this is a great piece. I think the majority of pieces for classical guitar, especially the slower ones, are underrated. I don't recall if you added Sor's OP. 35 NO. 22 in this video or not. But that's a piece that's on top of my list. Cavatina may not be considered as classical, but I had a hard time playing it, let alone playing it nicely.

Guitarists don't like it cause it feels more like an exercise, how could we blame them when we the crazy stuff on insta and Facebook reels of people just running scales and trying to achieve 200 bpm solo regardless the genre, HONESTLY I Skip them but when I come across a piece like this one I still give it a listen though I know every single note but it's not about the notes rather what it represents and the story behind it otherwise it's just noise and I prefer listening to the wind then someone who spends years practicing for a 20 sec reel just to look impressive.

"Underrated" because It belongs to no one. A proper published version was never out. Most composers just added the melody piece in their songs but not as a complete song. Also back when i was 14 and learning it, i noticed many beginners also knew this piece because it's short and simple. So not so underrated as you might think.

@@beatrixguitar No. It's just a beginner's piece. It's too easy. That's why it's underrated. These days, people play termolo on such legato type tunes/etudes. Just because some struggle with it doesn't mean otherwise. It's just hard for you.

Do u think its that easy ?
Well just to be clear, playing it might be one thing but...
Playing it exactly like her w the same feel and precision of timing is something only a maestro could do.
While the piece may come off as simple and easy playing it w perfection so as to extract the beauty of every note is definitely not child's play
