First Time Out on a 1987 GT Pro Freestyle Tour!

  • Just riding around on a 34 year old bike.
    I had white 1987 GT Pro Freestyle Tour, then a black 1988 GT Pro Freestyle Tour as a kid. I'm really stoked to get a hold of one of these again. It's my all time favorite bike from the late 1980s.
    Celebrating the first time out on the 1987 GT Pro Freestyle Tour with a few tricks invented by former GT riders Gary Pollak and Martin Aparijo. 💪
    Fire hydrant (including stepping off the down tube 😉) - Gary Pollak
    Lawnmower - Martin Aparijo
    Bar spin - who knows?
    Infinity roll - Martin Aparijo
    Frame stand - who knows?

      Awesome! I actually just got back my 1988 GT Pro Freestyle Tour and 1988 Diamond Back Strike Zone Woody Itson that I left with a friend back in 1992 when I went away to college. Gonna get them back into riding shape and post some vids.👍

    Nice Lawnmower man! We can pretty much do the same tricks. That's all I really learned. All I needed. Threw in a Decade the last few years I rode. Nice work.

      Very true! Even though it’s a 35 year old bike, it still feels very rideable and compares well to modern bikes and geometry. 👍

    Nice. I still have my Pro Tour. Blue/white mags, fold down pegs...all original except for the white GT tires.. Got it new for my b-day in 1988.. Still ride it around the city all then time. It's the perfect casual freestyle bike.

      Thanks! Yes, an absolutely classic bike. Glad I found this one recently. I had a black one as a kid and I should have never let it go. I'd say to try to find one again, but prices are through the roof on these kinds of bikes nowadays.

      Yeah, just a classic color for this bike. I had a white one, and then a black one as a kid. Still wanted a pink one even though black was pretty badass. Glad to get my hands on one again. 👍

    I had the exact color of bike! Bought it new in 87. Only it was a Pro Performer, but I swapped the stickers for Pro Freestyle Tour to make it look more expensive 😆 Then swapped the mags for Araya 64 spoke rims, but then I snapped the forks doing Miami Hop Hops! Nevertheless, I loved that bike!

      I can tell you as someone who grew up in the 80s. Those times were indeed special. I had a Redline myself. Now I'm reliving those times as I own 3 BMX modern bikes Lol. It's like I discovered the fountain of youth

    Oh man! I remember when that bike came out. I wanted one so bad, but I had just bought an MT Trickfox with my lawn mowing money and couldn't afford it. My friend got one and it was a sweet ride! His was green and white.

    I still have my original rideable 87 pink GT wit redline original crank. Thenl I had to buy the repop of it also .... Love the 87 Waaaaay better ....Love the riding, stay young and keep it up !

      Yeah, it is a freestyle bike after all. This was about 30 lbs with mags in this video. It's now a little over 28 lbs with spokes.

    Awesome riding and bike! Can I ask what pegs you are running? I am trying to find some bolt on ones that fit the fork dropouts on an 88 PFT.

      Familiar and new. 😁 Just love having one of these again, it was my last main bike as a kid. I've been riding mostly reissue bikes, which you know are basically modern bikes, since I got back into bikes last year, so it does feel a little different. That's prob down to the flexy mags tho. I'm working on building a set of wheels with Superlace hubs, so I'm hoping to ride it a bit more soon.

    If those are original power series cranks give me info on how you found them. I only have the repop ones from GT. The og one from 1987 made In Japan are like 1200 2200 bucks rn. And there really hard to find cuz no one wants to sell them

      Yeah, they are definitely not original cranks, they are just repop. 😁 I prob would keep repop cranks on this bike even if I had original 80s cranks.

      Yeah, not a fan of mags, they're too flexy and braking is awful. I have plans for spokes underway. 👍

      @@ChrisWong13 are you going with some kind of old school rims on that or something more modern . Peregrine high pressure 48s with sealed Bearings never failed me in the past I have 5 old school Haro,s all with the same Components & all have peregrine high pressure 48s with sealed bearings show Crome . The Haro,s I have are a 1987 Sport , 1988 FSX , 1989 Team Master w/ bash guard , 1990 Air Master & a 1992 Master w/ flat bottom bash guard . All are in pristine condition no rust just some scratches from wear & tear all from that year no re-creations just new sticker kits & original paint all first runs & all from my childhood I even went as far as buying boxes of jive handle grips & Haro Multi surface tires back in the day so I would have them later & they never rotted I use armor all on all of them to preserve them & to keep them from rotting or drying out . Well worth all the birthday money I spent just on rubber for something I needed in the future .nice bike tho love the color .

      @@robertlee8400 Very cool! Way to think ahead. Wish I'd done the same for the bikes I had as a kid. I had the 1986 Sport in blue, among others. I am leaning toward a new school set of SE rims with reproduction GT Superlace hubs. You may have seen the hubs mentioned in some of the Facebook BMX groups.

      @@429supercj I managed to get my hands on a set of Superlace hubs, so I'll be building those soon. I hear ya, but mags almost make this bike unrideable for me. So flexy and brakes don't work as well...
