Thanks for taking the time to make these videos. They are priceless. I’ve been working on motors my whole life and I always pick something up free m watching someone else. I haven’t been inside a motor for a few years and I just got a mint FD-11K and I have been monkeying with the carb and forgot all about the damn float being level to the body lmao. Who says ya can’t teach an old dog new old tricks. Lolol. Dammmmmmit man. I’ve had that pig apart five times like I gotta have a piece of trash in a Venturi lol. Nope damn float wasn’t set. Set that sucker and she sat dead flat still at an idle. Had the screws set perfect. Lol. She is just the nicest motor one could find. I bet it doesn’t have ten hours in it. I ripped the whole thing apart and every single screw came right out not a drop of corrosion on any screw like it was built last week. You don’t get em like this one often. I was told there were only 22000 made with the K after the 11 and that that was to signify that it was a 571/2. Something is different in the build than the first half of the year. Any idea what’s different ?? I can’t see anything that stands out from my other. ??!!!! Tia for any help.
Pretty good video. One thing I would recommend is using those Stanley screw drivers as chisels and such and to invest in a good set of hollow ground screw drivers, you won't be disappointed in the investment.
He doesn't know what he is doing almost all the info in this video is WRONG! even the initial adjustments are way off if you follow his instruction the motor will not run anywhere near as intended Buy an OMC Evinrude Johnson manual I recommend Seloc 1956-1970 Evinrude Johnson tune up and repair 1.5 to 40 hp
Brilliant video once again. Same carb as my 1960 model. Also used your link for the carb kit which also ships to the UK. You are a real help my friend. Thanks again.
I just aquired 5 different old boat motors. The first one I am tackling is a '53 Johnson 10HP QD-14. I dont see that model year under 10HP carb kits in your links. Where would I find the right kit for this particular motor?
I cant find the link for the rebuild kit. I have a 57' 30 hp evenrude big twin 25924, i cant find hardly anything for this old motor and it is very dear to me. Does anyone know what kit I need?
The carb kit referenced comes with more pieces than you need, correct? Looks like a lot of extra washers, seals, gaskets depending on the exact year. Is that correct? I have a 1955 QD-16 10 HP, and just bought this kit from Amazon: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07F73M7MS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01__o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1. Looks like a lot I don't need given the replacement parts you noted here. Thanks for any feedback you can provide!
Yes the upper which is low speed comes to a point more like a needle vs the lower which is more of a blunt end once you have both out or in hand and they both have the same threads so don't mix em up
@@daleburnett8431 the reason for asking is, the low speed pin was lost before I bought the engine, and was trying to get a figure on having one machined out
Very helpful video! When you screwed in the long needle(the low idle adjustment) you didn't show the little thing inside there that the needle actually screws into(it doesnt just screw into the body of the carb!) On my 1958 evinrude18hp, it comes out when I pull the needle out! It is just a cylindrical tube with threads inside it that seats in there and the needle screws into. I shove it back in and then screw the brass piece in and then I screw the needle in but, I am completely confused by these three parts and how far to screw it into the piece. mine wont stay running so, I was hoping to see what you did with this piece.
On this parts diagram, which part (number) are you referring to? www.marineengine.com/parts/johnson-evinrude-parts.php?year=1958&hp=18&model=FD-12&manufacturer=Johnson§ion=Carburetor+Group
I don't have a video but here is a link with a detailed description of the initial settings. bit.ly/2faZY66 A full tune up needs to be done on the water while the engine is running.
Hey man where are you from? I need my motor basically completely rebuilt it’s a 1971 Johnson 20 horse this thing is a shit show was wondering if you would be willing to basically rebuild it for me thanks
Silencer was the term I should have used See Part Here ---> www.marineengine.com/parts/johnson-evinrude-parts.php?year=1959&hp=10&model=QD-20&manufacturer=Johnson§ion=Carburetor+Group
You don't know what you're doing That is not how you adjust the float and you didn't even use the packing washers. The jet needles are going to need adjusted all the time and your initial jet needle adjustments are wrong also The low speed should be backed out 1 1/2 turns then adjusted while at the slowest idle you can get and keep running the high speed initial adjustment is 3/4 turn out read the manual before you do a video it's not just take a guess at it and make a video

You're a great tutor. I owe you one for the knowledge you pass on. Now, I can maintain my 10hp Golden Jubilee :-) Thank you!!

to bad all the info is wrong brilliant video LMAO!!!
great vid. That's really helped me work out where the bits go on my Johnson carb. Cheers !!
Great job thank you for your knowledge and expertise I will learn a lot from this

They are all the same. Sierra 18-7043
Could I use this logic to determine other parts too. Say for ie an impeller kit? I've found the 53 is hard to part together, myself.

Excellent tutorial, thanks maan!
Glad it helped
Lol so wrong
Isn’t the bottom jet in the bowl the high speed jet and the upper jet for low speed (what am I missing here?).
I've got 59 35hp super seahorse and can't find any carburator kit all together I've seen one piece at a time but I need a complete kit

Thank you you for the info!
hi i have a 1959 gale buccaneers outboard do you have any video on those or how i can use for reference
25 hp
I do not, I hope to make some soon
Do you have a link for a fuel pump kit for a 1971 Johnson 20 horse 20R71s

Thanks for the video!
Can I use B12 parts cleaner instead of the acetone you used?
Yes

Yes the kits can have extra parts. The kits are for a range of years and models. They are cheaper to sell that way, that’s why.
How to adjust low and high speed needles?

Very helpful. Thanks.
Is there any differences in dimensions on the high and low speed adjustment pins?
Yes the upper which is low speed comes to a point more like a needle vs the lower which is more of a blunt end once you have both out or in hand and they both have the same threads so don't mix em up

I have a QD-23 motor can you tell me what it is
It’s a 1962 Johnson 10 Hp
I was wondering if you know what kind of sealer to use for a cork float that can stand up to ethanol gas the shellac I was using don't work
throw it away and get a new plastic float, it will never give any trouble.
Freeze -off ---by CRC is best for rust or acceton with trasmition fluid 10% let sit and do it work avesom lesson you give keep it up

Would be nice to see something for the 9.5 motors as well!
Back40 Adventures I've owned several but I don't have one at the moment. If I get another I definitely will make a video.
Hey I added a couple of videos to my channel where I rebuilt a 9.5 hp carburetor.
do you have a video on how to tune the carb
I don't have a video but here is a link with a detailed description of the initial settings.

A full tune up needs to be done on the water while the engine is running.
That was almost painful!

Is this the same for a 1970 Evinrude 18 hp fastwin?
Top needle is low speed not high.
Uhh, you did not install the high or low speed packing washers correctly. Please follow the repair manual and illustrated parts breakdown.
does anybody know what the carb settings are for an Evinrude model 4266
how do you start 1940 1.1 hp evinrude
forgot all the packing washers around the needle. Thats gonna leak like a strainer.
This is not useful.
