- In this episode i strip my classic mini in preparation for it to become a stage rally mini. i rebuild the front bulkhead and re fit the rear seat and parcel shelf.
We now have a GoFundMe page if you wish to support our campaign to rally this classic mini - www.gofundme.c...
If you wish to email the team you can do so at TGMRT@outlook.com
Glad to see you removing the spot welds without drilling monster holes in the remaining panels. Great video. Nice to see you again.
thank you, yep that has to be one of my top tools
Great video Kev
Really looking forward to this, love your videos pal. Need more in my life!
cheers mate
Nice job. Pretty sure the front lower dash panel is the same on mk1 and 2 just the fact they padded out the mk2 rather than the mk1 was just covered in vinyl (if it was a posh un! ) Another thing you might want to consider and we did it on ours, was to cut a small hole either side in the rear passenger seat enough to get a spanner in, so you can gain easier access to the shock mount nuts of you ever needed to during a rally. All depends what regs you will run to and whether you will be running standard tank/s.
thank you, I did see that done on a mk2 at IMM 2017 Ireland, I thought that was a genius idea, however, with the strut towers I think I will have to run a centre alloy tank. But I think I might do that to my mk1 as it would save so much agro. thanks for the tip and I am glad you like the videos
Kev, Great job on the front and rear bulkheads looking forward to the build, Cheers Dave
cheers Dave, I enjoyed fabricating the front bulkhead especially trying to make that centre panel hole look original
Top work as allways. cant wait to see it progress. Wont be offering my services as a co driver though. lol. Years ago I used to do grasstrack racing in hotrods then banger racing but the most terrifying thing I ever done was being a passenger in my 10 year old sons junior ford fiesta. lol
Hi Kevin, love the video, great start, my first Mini was a 68 MkII (in UK) and it had Mk1 dash panel with s or z shape sheet steel spacers with studs holding the plastic MkII foam padded cover over (away from) the lower rail. Hope this helps! Cheers and Merry Christmas..... Graham
ah that's good to know, thank you, I have managed to find a genuine Mk2 switch panel so I will have to pick up or make some of those brackets.
Also impressed 👍
Thank you very much sir
Looking good dude...
thank you very much
Had to sub, thanks for the inspiration mate.
thank you very much, I am flattered
What a great build
I love the wheels you had on this car :)
cheers, I am not sure what make they are, but they do look good. I might have to sell them to fund more 10 inch wheels for the rally mini as I have a feeling I will need a lot :)
@@TheGentlemensMotorRacingTeam well when you get to that stage give me a shout, if funds are available i'm sure i can sort something out
You have been busy mate. Another great project to follow. Don't forget poor Bernie though
cheers, but, Bernie has been turned into a cloud of dust by an intergalactic villain, there is no coming back from that :(
????suspense is killing me. I'm half expecting him at Bingley fully restored
well done.
cheers lads, loving your work too :)
Merry xmas Kev ! Rallying a mini is on my bucket list, nice one! Looking forward to more in 2019, Ta fir na, M
cheers mate, yes, I thought if ii don't pull my finger out and build this car it would never happen.
Hey that's Matt!
whos Matt :)
Impressed as always 🤩
I am but an apprentice to the master, thank you
The Gentleman's Motor Racing Team Kev you’re much better than most of the professional panel beaters I’ve worked with. No joke... 👍
I like it.
cheers, me too :)
Nice work, I was expecting you to play a tune on those hole blanks :)
ha ha, I cannot play any musical instrument but I can play the song of our people on an angle grinder :)
Can I come be your navigator? Love this project and the editing 👏
mate if you genuinely would want a go you are more than welcome :)
The Gentleman's Motor Racing Team thank you that would be fantastic and I’ll see when I can get over. Brain is ticking with ideas
ralllayyyy!!!
Yay
What class / category are you going to be competing in? As I was thinking that would determine what body mods you could keep / are allowed?
The plan Is to join in with my chums who are competing in the ACSMC tarmac championship to start with. However, I want to use this car for as many different types of motorsport as possible. Our club often take part in hill climbs and sprints and I am often amazed how regs change with different clubs, some clubs won't allow one thing but another club will. So my thought was if I build it to stage rally spec this should super seed most club standards. It will in effect be a jack of all trade car but should be fun .
@@TheGentlemensMotorRacingTeam that makes sense, i was seeing the bulkhead mods and things like the rear brace and was thinking 'surely not allowed in historic rallying'!
@@MiniPerformance that's another reason why I wanted to rebuild the sides of the front bulkhead, so if I needed I could fill the centre section to meet regs for what ever discipline requires it, and I am very tempted to make the rear brace removable for the same reason. I kind of wish I had re fitted the rear turrets to standard as I can't imagine it will ever go back to coil overs again
Interesting. Do you happen to remember the name of the chap who rallycross`d it?
I am afraid not, as I would love to get in touch to see if he had any photos or history etc
@@TheGentlemensMotorRacingTeam Yes, that was my interest too.
I think you've said this yourself Kev , Too many projects .
So true, so true
Oh no, is Bernie just on hold or gone?
This new series looks great though! You made a great start, getting a lot done already
cheers mate, no Bernie has been turned into a cloud of dust by an intergalactic villain, there is no coming back from that :(
The Gentleman's Motor Racing Team well that sucks 😝
Are you guys on the isle of wight?
Yes sir we are :)
@@TheGentlemensMotorRacingTeam
Oh great...
Where abouts are you guys, would love to come and take a visit. I'm doing a build atm myself.
I'm in brading..
It looks like a mk1 to me
I do question that myself sometimes, especially as the floor has been cut for the gear stick - or maybe it has just been hacked to make a rod change fit better? :)
:-)
:)
