  • Detoured is a show where we explore new places and car culture. In this episode we find ourselves in the interior of British Columbia, Canada. February has added heaps of snow just in time for the Thunderbird Rally of 2018, which Mark and Kevin Dykstra are taking on in a 1979 mini.

    Recently got into your videos when I saw your segment on servicing rear drums and radius arms, as I'm currently restoring a 1993 SPi Mini Cooper. Immediately impressed at the production quality and content. I found myself checking out your other videos including the Detoured series and I must say I'm incredibly impressed! Even my girlfriend was hooked watching your adventures in Japan, simply astounding.
    This video really resonates with what being a Mini owner is all about. Keep on making videos, keep on driving and the subscribers will keep on coming - your channel is brilliant!

    One of the great things with Minis is that even 20 years after production stopped there is not a single thing you can`t get for them. How many modern cars compare with that? You are a real Mini Nut (like me), welcome to the club.

    That looks like so much fun! Can't believe I saw my two cars in this video, mini and a 944 :) I'd so take the mini out in conditions like these over the 944.

      Hi Mark - I'm pretty sure I recognize you from High School..... did you go to FVCH in Surrey, BC? A great coincidence! I live in Lynden, WA, and on a Sunday morning, I'm checking out this great TH-cam channel about MINI's..... and I see a Dutch name on the window of the car first..... 'hey!', I think to myself, 'another Dutch guy into cars!.... cool! '...... then I see you standing by your car in your garage, and I think 'hey! I think I recognize that guy!'....... I'm Cason VanDriel - I went to FVCH from 1979 to 1984. I'm into Ford pickups and Mazda Miatas. Great video by the way...... small, simple, basic cars are a riot!

      LyndenTinkerer Hello back, this is funny because I don’t clearly remember your name, just another Dutch name maybe, but there seems to be something triggering. I didn’t go the FVCH but I did go to John Knox elementary school. We would have definitely have know the same people. The only person I am in touch with from that era is Dan Visser. Glad you liked the video it was very weird to see it myself.

    Sorry mate..the Mk1 was better. I had 2 (63 and 64), after smashing the first one up..not my fault. Sooooooo much fun, but here they cost a fortune. Get my 2CV soon, all I could afford as they were made here in Portugal. I am envious, even of a Mk2.... Thanks

    An imported mini isn’t the real thing ?

    • @markdykstra5136
      @markdykstra5136 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just saw this comment, I doubt you are out there for this reply, but I just meant the Japanese imports are very complex and not what I would want to use a platform for this type of driving adventure. It’s done many more adventures on gravel roads etc and is now just finishing a paint and mechanical rebuild.
