@@imawonderI started painting first with acrylics and I’m slowly experimenting with watercolors and gouache, but I’ve never seen acrylic gouache… my brain can’t process the difference between acrylics and acrylic-gouache. They seem identical in their pros-cons…
Really having a hard time getting this acrylic gouache concept, haha 😅

Ive seen hundreds of videos of people using regular palettes with acrylic gouache and FINALLY someone does it right! I’ve been telling artists about this for years and they never paid attention to my advice!

Please do more videos with your acrylic gouache technique. It’s amazing to see the layers and the smoothing to end with this beautiful graphic piece.

Oooh a wet palette! Ever since using acrylic gouache, ive found this type of pallete to be a huuuge help
Tho most if not all the wet palette brands available to me locally were waaay above my budget, so i decided to DIY my own^^
Heres what i did to make mines:
    You'll need:
    - any flat container with a lid; i used a plastic flat face mask container thats like 4x7inches and 1cm tall (tho an air tight food container can also be nice, but often too small/tall) You can also try dumpling food containers cuz those are usually more flat and wide if u prefer more mixing space
    - chamois (those yellow absorbent cloths usually used for cars/cleaning)
    - baking paper
    Instructions:
    1. Cut the baking paper into the shape of the base of your container
    2. Same step above with the chamois x2
    3. Place the cloth on the containers base, and wet generously (but not to the point its dripping wet)
    4. Place the sheet of baking paper ontop of the wet chamois, and smooth it out so it sorta lays flush with the wet cloth
    5. Place ur paints and enjoy painting :>
I literally spent less than 2 dollars for the whole DIY wet palette (i live in Asia so im making an estimate dollar wise lol)
My acryl gouache (Turner brand) stays wet even after a few days (3-5days) of my container being closed.
Tho it can depend on the humidity of your area, u can check your paints and re-wet the chamois by the edges if needed^^

Hi. Thank you so much for sharing your tricks. Using a face mask container is such a great idea because I've wanted to DIY a sta-wet palette for a while, but can't think of a container that is flat enough. Since I haven't experienced a sta-wet palette, I'm figuring out how it functions. How often do you replace the baking paper? Do you use it until all of its surface is covered in paint?

    • @rosemangofairy
      @rosemangofairy 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Wow thanks for the tip! So useful 😊. I'm curious though, can this be used for long-term? Also, will the container get moldy with the wet chamois? I ask this because in the past I've accidentally forgot to take a wet one from a container, and the mold was excruciating. I had to buy a new one since it wasn't usable after that. I do live in a very humid Asian country though, so I'm sure that was a factor.

i ADORE this painting !!! i know that as a content creator / freelance artist with deadlines it can be hard for you to spend a lot of time on one particular work, and in a few of your videos you talked about wanting to be able to have that time, so i was so excited to hear that you felt you were able to spend the amount of time that you wanted rendering this one

Wet palette was a game changer for me for acrylic gouache too! When I started I got discouraged because it was very much like acrylic - either I got something in 10-15 minutes or it was set in stone.

There's something really special and cool going on with how some parts blend and others have a sharp contrast, idk it just feels really fun and dynamic. Interesting! I heard that for mixed media that this Acrylic Gouache is not really suitable for finishing with color pencils, any thoughts on that?!.. I know that traditional Gouache or Watercolor is allowing color pencils very well and almost seems like it is made to work together.. But the pencils become dull on top of this acrylic gouache and so people recommend Flashe Vinyl over Acrylic Gouache.. If only the acrylic Gouache would take pencils just like traditional gouache or like Flashe Vinyl, it would actually be the most premium art medium.. What I do like much about Acrylic Gouache over traditional, less color change when dry, more cheap than traditional gouache, it does not crackle being flexible, less brush stroke textures and it does not reactivate after drying.. Though the big downside is that it does not take pencil/mixed media, which is huge if not being able to potentially be the base layer for hyper realistic pencil drawing and or just semi realistic final pencil renderings ect.. So my search for the best workflow medium continues..
