I love my low profile arm, and it fills my needs very well. If I had to criticize it, the magnetic covers are a little not very secure and the weight of the SM7B challenges the height holding mechanisms. But overall, it has certainly replaced my overhead mic booms. As to having a 'clear desk', it just means you need to adjust your workspace and clutter to accommodate it. 😂

Use the LP mounted on the left side of the table. Frontal will indeed knock things

I've been using the LP for a while and recently put the PSA1 back on my desk to compare and here's what I've noticed:
    - Like you said, if you've got anything on your desk, the LP is a pain (unless you just put it in one place and never move it). For example, my Audient iD 14 is low enough to stay under it, but the EVO 8 is not. If I have the top portion up too high, it bonks my monitor (or the mic does).
    - The LP is good for having a single height/position for the mic, which is fine if you don't move much, but a pain if you want to, say, lean back in your chair. The PSA1 can move with you in a way that the LP cannot.
    - The LP is better for staying out of your peripheral vision, which is nice, but it also ends up in the way of your keyboard.
    - The ball joint on the LP is nice except that it really cannot be fully locked. No matter how much I tighten it, it is still possible to move it without too much effort.
I think if they made an LP that had the same sort of spring mechanism as regular boom arms, that would be the way to go.

I have the regluar LP boom arm, and it's really nice that it goes under the screen when not in use. You can have clutter on your desk, but it has to be low clutter. A stream deck without a stand works, but enterprising folks might 3D print a slightly tilted stand.
The main downside apart from those magnets is that the ball joint doesn't hold heavier or off center mics well. I used to have a Presonus Revelator in a swift mount, but I would have to tighten it all the time or it would fall over from the weight being so far out. Now I use an SM57 with the A55M shock mount, and that both works well and looks nice. (I use velcro instead of the top cable chain, to be able to reorient the mic easily.)

I picked up the regular Elgato a few months ago, upgrading from my super cheap no name Amazon one from years ago. I absolutely love it.

I think there maybe some oversight with the QC process as mine didn't come with the loose base AND the magnets are super strong (like annoying-to-remove strong).

I loved your review of this LP Boom arm! I just got the Rode Podmic USB today and I’m excited to start using it. However, I’m a realy conflicted about whether to get the Elgato LP boom arm, which you have setup for this video.
I haven’t had the chance to hear directly from someone with this setup, and your feedback would really help. I’ve seen several reviews mentioning that the PodMic USB, being a hefty microphone, doesn’t pair well with the Elgato boom arm. Some buyers have complained about the boom arm sagging after a while.
What’s your experience with it? Do you think it holds up well over time? Would you recommend going ahead with the Elgato LP boom arm, or should I consider other options?
    Thanks in advance!

I bought the Low Profile Boom arm right when it came out and was annoyed by how easily the magnets came off.
I was later told that Elgato did a shadow update and made the magnets stronger, which always bummed me out a bit. Looks like the fallout version at least also has weak magnets.
But then again I just saw a comment under this video of someone claiming that their magnets were really strong. So maybe it’s just QC after all, who knows

What were the issues with it and what made Beacn better?

    • @gregm1855
      @gregm1855 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@DarkCornerStudios Few things the tightening mechanism on the Elgato for raising and lowering the arm is a plastic knob. With heavier mics I felt it struggled and I had to over tighten it. With the Beacn you use an allen wrench / hex key (Which is provided). While less convenient it is by far sturdier and performed better with heavy mics. Another thing which you mentioned in your video is the magnet system Elgato uses. I found it to also come loose too easily. Beacn still allows you to route underneath however it uses a grommet system which performs much better. I believe Harris made a video about the Beacn arm.
