Musky and Tiger Musky fishing in West Virginia has been "under the radar" for years. Several rivers offer the same conditions as this one and many creeks have excellent Tiger Musky populations.

Musky fishers are a different breed. In the absolute worst weather, they are out there because they're "biting". I have fished for trout in snow squalls, but these folks are fishing for muskies in blizzard conditions! Hard Core!!

From December to February i fished for muskie. When i finally hooked one in late feb i torn my rotator cuff mid fight. My muskie was 56 inches. Now im rehabbing from surgery. So i say its the fish of 10,000 casts and a surgery. No lie i think hucking them heavy lures for 5 to 6 hours a day for 3 months is what blew out my shoulder.

Some constructive suggestions coming, change your hooks to 4x VMCs and take off the belly hook you will have no bent treble hooks anymore you dont need the belly hooks they just cause problems, try the VMC in 3/0 or 4/0, when retrieving your plug try it with the but under your left armpit you will have alot more power on the hook set, then after the fish is hooked switch the but to your groin its alot easy to fight a good fish that way, gear up makes some nice plug bags to carry your lures needlenose and leaders a gaff when used to hook the fish in the mouth not the body is alot more compact then a big net, I'm not being a smartass just trying help I use conventional tackel in the surf for the last 30 years, it pays to go lite as you can on carry your gear when you have to cover alot of ground, I use st croix surfcasting rods, my reels are avet and penn squall there is no level wind on them because sand and level winds dont mix to well lol, good luck, I hope some of this helps

West Virginia is quickly becoming a high quality musky fishery. State record has been broken 3 times in the past 5 years, relatively low fishing pressure, no competition from pike or big gar, favorable climate. It wouldn't shock me for a 55+ pounder to be caught in the near future.

I would to see a Rapala magnum 71/2" 1 1/8 oz the older ones with just 2 hooks and big flat lip! F-18 they can be swamed, ripped and walked like a dog and some guys would use lead solder to make the bait natural in the water column? The black/silver or blue/silver they are a natural looking bait with a great wobble just straight retrieved! Any stop and go makes the it look like it's dogging and predator! I got to muskie fishing in the Midwest where I hail from! Only stories of muskie or people bound to Wisconsin, Michigan or Minnesota to catch muskie! Now it seems they are no longer the fish of 10,000 cast? But a matter of hours! CMTFU! Enjoy videos

Musky ( deformed or mutant pike )... Up there in the top ranks with the Black Piranha, Pacu, Goliath Tiger Fish, Giant Alligator Gar, Arapaima and Wolf Fish are one of the fresh water fish species with not just or only that have one of the hardest bite force within the fresh water fish category but amongst the hardest fighting fresh water fish as well especially in open water and are not easy to catch due to their reluctance. They're more of a stalking fish than a chaser but once it strikes its tug-of-war between man and beast and is very much capable of crushing and destroying a big hard plastic lure like its nothing...

That looks like a blast, a buddy of mine lives in WV and will have to drop in on him after seeing this. We fished Brazil and Canada together as well as here in South Florida. A few years back I made several different fin variations on 6" wood blanks to try In Brazil and Colombia, a few worked really well. Also ended up with several really cool looking muskie baits while shopping River to Sea Wide Glides, they look like giant Zara Spooks (Suick), they're just hanging on the tackle wall of shame.

That small river is ideal for a popping cork.

Where in the Pittsburgh area do you reside? I’m about 35 miles north in Beaver County. I live pretty close to the Connequennessing and fish it often. There are a few reliable musky holes on the creek. Nice tigers in the 40” range. Big smallies too. Most of my weekly kayak floats are on that creek

You have earned extra credit on a fish that they call .... The fish of ten thousand casts !!! I've only caught two in my life, one of which went 52 inches ! One hell of a HONEY HOLE THERE !!!

You know what’s crazy I live around the wheeling WV area and you would think all those river that connect to the Ohio river it would have boat loads or musky…. It has close to none at all it sucks to have to travel 45 mins to an hour just to catch them.

Apparently knowing a good spot is very important in musky fishing.
