- Ceremony to recognise all that has happened in the past fortnight, with the death of Johnny Duhan and the massive search undertaken by the communities of Cois Fharraige to locate the remains of Máire Ní Fhlatharta.
By way of introduction, Fr Michael said: We are all aware of the cruel fortnight that the people of Cois Fharraige have had searching for the body of Máire. It gives solace to everyone that she is back with her family at last.
Caitríona said that the community had stood together through difficult days over the past fortnight. On November 12th last, the sea took the lives of Johnny Duhan and Máire Ní Fhlatharta from us. The community of Furbo and Cois Fharraige came together to give every help and support possible to their families. Day after day, hundreds came together in an effort to bring Máire home to her family. Thanks be to God, they were successful last Friday afternoon. We recognise this co-operation through the symbols brought up to the altar:
A high-vis vest
A walking stick
Two roses - for Johnny and Máire, who left this life very suddenly.
A lit candle as a symbol of light and hope for the grieving families at this dark time of grief.
