懐かしい風景ですね。昔、看板設置の手伝いをしていた頃の知人がネオンサインなどの看板を作っていたので、何十年ぶりかに作業風景を見ました。
ネオンサインってこんな風に作ってたのか…！手作業で、中空洞だから潰れちゃったらやり直し…慣れてる人(職人)じゃなきゃこんな綺麗に作れないよね…手間暇かけて作ってる分、綺麗に輝くんだ🥹

Exact reason why LED sucks. It takes zero skill and the artificial light us so ugly. Real glass tubes with inert gas is the only way imo to get a true piece of art made by someone who's truly talented.

I love LEDs ... simple as that. They are efficient, bright and really versatiles so I would put them everywhere . Except to replace custom neons. The beautifull continuous light from a neon sign is really elegant and really can't be replaced by anything, not even by really expensive LED strips
LED sucks. Fake artificial light that puts off zero vitamin D, it's terrible for the eyes, skin and hair, it's also talentless. Any moron can buy cheap Chinese plastic that burns houses down and burns out in less than 3 years. A properly made neon sign can last 75 years. Advertising used to be an art. It draws people in, creates nostalgia, and now it even creates a landmark. Anyone using neon gets way more business. Put neon and LED next to each other and it's so obvious which is superior. We need less ppl like you and more people who love art and craftsmanship. Intelligent people understand. Unfortunately the ones that aren't so intelligent need it broken down like I just had to waste the time doing for you. Im starting to realize people aren't necessarily dumb, just insanely uninformed and unaware. Best of luck, you're welcome. Btw, I never read responses. The step not shown is pumping the gas mixture (neon and argon) and adding a bead of mercury. They did show welding the temporary nipple needed for pumping though

Neon is only one color, the reddish pink. The other colors are not neon, they are other gasses.
To do all that shaping by hand is incredible

They need to make a neon sign typewriter. I just fabricates whole glass letters as you type. Backspace snaps the letter off and throws it into a bin to be melted again.
