    Curious, how much does the Alto 2114 weigh and how does it pull behind your SUV? SIs that a RAV4 or a highlander?

    • @JustinandJess
      @JustinandJess  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We tow with a Highlander hybrid. We've sense upgraded to a newer Highlander hybrid (we love them). The dry weight for the 2114 is a little shy of 2400 lb. That's without optional add-ons. The trailer tows very well behind the Highlander hybrid (3500 lb towing capacity), but it's important to remember that, if you have a lot of add-ons, you like to travel with full holding tanks, or you generally have a lot of camping accessories, you may not be able to get away with a midsize SUV.

    Hi, Would love to hear more on your recent adventures in the F2114 and how you are liking it. Do you have another video coming out soon? It looks like a pretty cool trailer.
    Wondering if there is anything you would add to it for options that you don't have or not get that it does have? Great job with your videos!

    Excellent review! As fellow Altoistes who've owned the 1723 and now the 2114 we agree with the points you've made. One additional difference is that the 2114 still attracts attention from other campers, but not to the extent the 1723 did.

      Ohh I hadn't thought of that! We get stopped a LOT at gas stations with our teardrop Alto. Fortunately for me (Justin here), I looove to talk about my trailer with strangers (shocker). The look on people's faces when I raise the roof is priceless!

    Hi, great video! Noticing your tow vehicle, the Highlander. I’m considering that myself and I think it’s the 2013 models, maybe just the Limited?, that comes with a tow package standard - less the actual hitch. What model year do you have?

    The 1723 looks neat and it's a cool concept, but it seems like a really expensive toy. I can see it if you have to store it a garage, but I can't imagine how much it'd cost when the retractable roof mechanism breaks.

    • @JustinandJess
      @JustinandJess  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey thanks for watching! That is a valid concern, but we are in a Facebook group with thousands of other Alto owners and issues with the roof mechanism are EXTREMELY rare and these things have been on the road for over a decade. It's really a testament to their quality.

    Looks like you're still pulling with the HiHy. How does it handle, with what the extra weight of that trailer? (We're planning to tow with our HiHy too, though our 1st Alto will likely be an R1723.)

    • @JustinandJess
      @JustinandJess  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's been doing great! In fact, we haven't even noticed a difference while towing. Our gas milage seems to be the same too, but I think that's because we're intentionally packing lighter and towing with dry holding tanks to compensate for the extra weight. We love our Highlander so much!

      We are towing with a Highlander hybrid that has a 3500 lb capacity. You should have no problem towing with a 4Runner which I believe has a 5,000 lb capacity. The dry weight for the f2114 before optional add-ons is just shy of 2400 lb

    How's the headroom in the F2114, Justin? I'm 6'5" (thought you're tall, too), and one thing I really like about the R1723 is that the retractable roof makes it a small trailer I could fit in our 8' garage, but still stand up in when we set it up. Are you ducking in the F2114? Will you be storing it in a garage?

    • @JustinandJess
      @JustinandJess  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey (Justin here)... I've not had any issues at all, but I'm only 6'0" tall. I just did a search ("f2114 height") in the Altoistes FB community and found a really helpful diagram with all of the F2114's measurements. This is not confirmed, but apparently it's 6"4" from floor to ceiling. Thanks for watching.
      Edit: we just uploaded our 1-year review of this trailer and we include a small section where we cover that height in the trailer in the bathroom (where it's a little bit shorter due to the shower pan). You can check it out here... th-cam.com/video/a8NJ8VXRIuQ/w-d-xo.html

    • @JustinandJess

      Yes. Sorry it's hard to see in the video, but a shower curtain wraps around the interior of the bathroom and the sink handle lifts from the basin (via a hidden hose) and can be placed in a cradle near the ceiling for a hands-free shower experience. It's also worth mentioning that these trailers have an exterior shower with hot and cold water on the outside wall of the trailer.

    Can the F2114 be towed with a vehicle with a 3500 lb tow capacity? I'm concerned with the weight with a full loaded trailer and passengers. Have you weighed your current setup?

    • @JustinandJess
      @JustinandJess  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is a great question. I don't want to speak for every vehicle, however we consulted with Safari Condo about our Toyota Highlander Hybrid and they expressed no concerns about its 3,500lb towing capacity. For what it's worth, we know of many others in the Alto community that tow with a 3,500lb TV and have had no issues.
      For others reading this and wondering if 3,500 pounds is enough for you, it's worth mentioning that we travel VERY light compared to the average RVer. Part of this is because we're minimalist travelers who have grown accustomed to traveling internationally with a single backpack each. Also, we like saving money on gas when we travel domestically in our RV. We do not have a lot of common camping accessories like grills, generators, dogs fences, heavy chairs, folding tables, etc. Additionally, we try as hard as possible to travel with empty holding tanks (black, gray, and fresh) and never carry more water than we need... instead favoring getting water with a jerry-can and bringing it back to our trailer once it's at the campsite. This is undoubtedly an inconvenience for some, but a trade-off we're willing to make.
      Thanks for watching!

    I’ve been intrigued by their retractable roof trailer. I main concern is heat and you confirmed that it can at as a greenhouse. If you went off for the day, would the trailer stay cooler if you lowered the roof while you were away?

    • @JustinandJess
      @JustinandJess  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe a degree or two, but it probably wouldn't make that much of a difference. Regardless, the first thing you're going to be doing when you get back is opening the windows and turning the fan to 100%.

    I have a car that can tow up to 3500lbs, would I be able to comfortably pull the F2114?

    • @JustinandJess
      @JustinandJess  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends on how you camp.
      3,500 lbs does not leave a lot of breathing room for a 2400 lb trailer. Do you travel with a lot of accessories (mats, chairs, tables, grills, fire pits, dog gates, etc.) Do you need to travel with partially full or full holding tanks (black, gray, fresh)?
      We travel super light so we can get away with a 3,500 lb TV. If you suspect you'll need more, consider a larger tow vehicle in addition to trailers like these.

      The holding tanks are a little small, but with judicious water use, you can definitely stay out camping for a while. Of course, it helps if you have a Jerry can so you can bring extra water to the trailer. You can also invest in a waste cart as well.
      I would definitely research the options that are available and consider getting solar panels and a larger lithium battery array depending on if you do a lot of camping in dense tree coverage in the Pacific Northwest (like us).
      The inverter option is also nice as it will allow you to use a microwave without electrical hookups (if that's a necessity for you).
      Also, the three-way fridge option is nice as you can use it on direct current from the battery or with propane.

    I'm sorry but the other trailer is a large Tear Drop style... this is just another large trailer with more space, also the large space problems...such as camp ground issues you brought up and the garage storage of the other was an important feature. There are at ton of great 20 foot trailers on the market... This company's unique tear drop style and pop top is what was great about it. Sorry...

    • @JustinandJess
      @JustinandJess  ปีที่แล้ว

      No apologies necessary. Thanks for sharing your opinion. For us, the advantage to the F2114 (compared to other 20 ft trailers) is the lightweightness, build quality, and resale value. The travel trailer market has been plagued with some very poorly designed trailers that fall apart. That is not the case with trailers manufactured by Safari condo these trailers sell used for as much and sometimes even more than they do when they're new. Definitely unheard of in the industry.
