Thanks for doing this video, but people should know that the deity mic was WAY farther away from you, so it wasn't really a good comparison between those two, but it showcased what THIS Rode NTG5 can do, and it sounds great.
The Rode sounds excellent, excellent tone and comes across very natural with a nice depth. The Deity sounds positively tinny and quite unpleasant by comparison. Every time I watch a review comparing Rode to Saramonic, Deity (Aputure as they were), Boya and the like to a Rode, I just cannot accept that the former are equal or better. And I own Saramonic and Boya, as well as Rode.
It's a little strange to do a microphone review while your voiceover sounds like it was recorded by your in-body camera mics and then processed through an 8-year-old iPhone. The constant hissing and muted yet tinny sound is quite hard to listen to.
This sounds way better then the NTG4 and Plus ... I always thought the 4 series sounded really bad cheap and tinny and was never impressed with it at all, but the sound quality of the NTG5 on the other hand is night and day in quality and in a whole other league in my opin. Plus the kit with all the accessories seems HQ as well. Def worth getting ...
I JUST recently got the zoom H5 recorder for my TH-cam tutorials and i am glad with that purchase ,especially after seeing you use it with the Rode NTG5. i hope i'l be able to afford it soon😃❤
Hey Tom great to see you! Great info in that review and your voice definitely sounded way better with that Rode mic than the Deity one. Audio seemed a lot richer (night and day really). Im always up for new gear if your looking to send stuff my way that you need to get rid of especially things you dont have time to review! Also let me know if your ever heading this way (Niagara) would love to grab a coffee!
tom I got a question, beside for interview or dialogue recording, will the NTG5 + H5 works well for fooley like recording the actor footsteps near the beaches while maintaining the crips footstep and the environtment sound well at once ?
Have you heard of a mic called the Synco D2? Another TH-camr the booth junkie tested it against the Sennheiser mkh 416 and you could hardly tell the difference between the two. But the Synco mic is only $249.00 as opposed to the mkh 416 which costs $1000.00
Hi Tom, I have a question If I want to record sounds of waves from the shore facing the ocean, what kind of mic should I use ? Shotgun w windshield , XY, or the ORTF? Thanks in advance. Best from Boston
This one is more tuned for location recording and vocals. The NTG3 is a great mic for overall recording too and a bit more flat which is better if you want more of a true sound recording. But overall I never was a big fan of the NTG3 as much as I was of the NTG4+ or Sennheizer MKE416. Also if you consider all that you get and for how much cheaper than the NTG3 i think the NTG5 is a better way to go.
Price is going to vary somewhat with where you are and when. And finding out from Rode, B&H, or your vendor of choice is not far away. B&H: www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1512606-REG/rode_ntg5_broadcast_shotgun_mic.html
Tom I have the H5 Zoom and a 416 and also have recorded someone who has your timbre of voice and no sir it does not get close to the 416, I will say though its great but not like the 416. The Engineering is not the same. Great Video though thank you for sharing. Edited your audio added HP Filter, compression Teletronix, and maximized it gently. I feel it lacks detail if you were to compare it to the 416
its different. both gave advantages and disadvantages. Rode 4+ has built in battery for self powered operation. The NTG5 is smaller and comes with a grip
You do know you can do this magical thing called fast forward if you aren't interested in me disclosing how I do reviews and answering to people who think I get paid for my opinion
In all other videos I never talk about that because I didn't think it was important but then I get accused of being paid so I finaly explain it and now you get triggered 🤣
Ah! I can't too much pressure. I'm sorry. Actually wait... I'm not. You're the one watching. Also you're in control of the playback. Fast forward if you want or skip the whole video all together if you can't. 🙏 But go easy on me. Thanks!
@@TomAntos I did fast forward, to the end. And the whole video was a waste of time, asshole. Maybe you should try spending less time trying to convince people that you are not doing a paid review.
You can download the raw audio sample from the NTG5 here: wp.me/p8IV72-52x
Tom Antos thanks for this great review
6:30 Actual Review
Thank you!
Thanks for that!!!!
So 7 minutes convincing us that Rode hasn't payed u 😂😏🤣😏😂🤣
Exactly.
@@jinxterpinxter do u think that Rode had already did ?!
Those reviews getting more boring

Hi Tom, sounding good!
Curtis!! I look forward to your review!!
Snakes hiss less than that Diety S-Mic 2 ( 15:00 ). :) The comparison when listening to headphones is night and day, and I'm not even an audiophile.

Jose Sanchez yeah.. 6:41 was way too long for that..
"That company will go down under" They already have, they are from Australia. 😆
I have the Rode Videomic Pro+ and have had it for two years. Is this worth the upgrade?

Great I trust you TOM...I. gonna get a NTG5 I have a 4+ but I like the 5
If you can, please try and compare it with the Ntg3, I think that one is closest to the new one
tom I got a question,

Sounds nicer than your studio mic. Would you please place
NTG5 to where the camera stands?
Hey Tom, have you noticed any RF interference with the NTG5?
Thank you so much for sharing, Tom. I’m glad I’m always learning with you.
I’ve seen several reviews on the ngt 5 and it’s a beast ! The price seems great for the performance
Thank you Tom
I prefer the Sennheiser sound better as it seems more natural to where the Rode sounds a little bassy.
It's not working with H6 any soultion ?
check phantom power
Thank you Tom, I was wondering if it's possible for you to compare it to NTG4+ ?
thanks for posting this.
and... vfx artist? hehe same here.. escaped a few years ago
Hi tom, great review. Do you set your h5 to 12volts?
Is there a cold shoe mount if you wanted to use it on a camera?
Watching this now, how does this compare to the Azden SGM-250x?
Great audio and review Tom, I still love my ntg4+ for what I do and my h5 ☺
Stay true, Tom. Good Video.
Sounds good
Sorry mate, I love your work, but a desk review not much use for me. Field testing a basic.
Tom, it appears the link to your audio file sends me to B&H. Could you edit your description? Thanks. Great review!

Yeah
Can the mount go o a cold shoe?
Nice
It sounds good because of the ZOOM H5 recorder. Otherwise it would be mediocre...

Can I plug NTG5 into ZOOM h1 recorder ?
No, H1 doesn't have the XLR input
please use the rode in your studio
I will now!

Is it netter than the 4+?
its different. both gave advantages and disadvantages. Rode 4+ has built in battery for self powered operation. The NTG5 is smaller and comes with a grip
that thing crash the s mic 2
The NTG 5 realllllly puts the Smic to shame, the deity sounds terrible in comparison
for real 😅
You don't need to justify anything we trust you.
Deity sounds thinner
Where exactly was the Deity placed during this "test"? This is kinda lame Tom!
It was right above my desk . About 1 foot away from my face. What is lame?
The defence about the gift is too long and boring
5min of disclaimer.... we dont need that!
