After this video I was listening some tracks that I never heard before (let's say I'm new in prog), and "School" from Supertramp is one of the best songs I've ever heard
New to prog you say? What do you think of these albums: Jean-Yves Labat - M. Frog, Junipher Greene - Friendship, Ton Vlasman - White Room With Disintegrating Walls, or Rick Wakeman - The Red Planet?
Anyone noticed the beauty of these record covers? They are stunning! A very good list, anyway, I would have added some other Italian prog groups, like Orme and Banco del Mutuo Soccorso
So at the end of 1972 Sounds music paper publishes its albums of the year. Who comes at the top of the list, Argus, by Wishbone Ash. This was a massive album and commercially successful. Firmly considered progressive rock. This has to be a massive oversight.!
Shine on and Echoes, the best ones IMHO. I'd would add: Finale (Greenslade), Prologue (Renaissance), 1974 (O Terço), Irene (Kayak), Los Delirios del Marischal (Crucis), Princese (Camel), I believe (Triunvirat) and many Alan Parson's Project's tracks. Greets from Brazil.
I am not familiar with most of the groups but I do know Jethro Tull and they were #1 . They were the 1st live band I saw and was so shocked at the talent that I saw them over 300 more times in 12 states and 100s of venues. Did anyone else have a Jethro Tull hobby ?

England's Garden Shed, what an album, all the EP is incredible but I think that specifically "Three Piece Suite" would make a good place in the top 15, what a masterpiece.
I completely agree with you Thick as a Brick in conjunction with Passion Play are the two best albums done in the progressive rock history. One time i heard Andrew Giddings said , Jethro Tull music is only for not all ears is for smart people.

It's amazing to me that all these "prog rock" lists fail to ever include Todd Rundgren's Utopia 10/74. An album head and shoulders above 3/4 of those you list here.
An interesting choice. But what about 3 bands I think would definitely be in my list. Uriah Heep? Steve Hillage? Wishbone Ash? Surely worthy of inclusion. Thoughts please👍
after all these years and my interest on progressive growing, i still cant stand a single Emerson Lake and Palmer tune. Apart from that, it s great list !
Will there be a list about the songs from the 2000s too? Well, for me anyway, I'm planning to create one soon, but this time around, it's a top 100 list of each song from each year - starting from 2000 up to the current year. And, there are no repeating songs, and from that I mean, one album per each year.
Sounds good man, looking forward to seeing that, i'm not sure if i'll be doing anything around the 2000s years, in terms of prog I haven't listened to much.

For those wondering, this 50-track playlist is nearly 11 hours long.
And that is why I love prog rock.
Van der Graaf is one of the most underrated bands in existence, they're absolutely sublime

Great list, personally I think Thick as a Brick should be around 5 or 6.
In The Court Of The Crimson King is from the 60s 🤓
My like 'cause you've included Premiata Forneria Marconi in this list
I am from Poland and seeing SBB is so nice for me. I am not new in ProgRock but I found here a lot of inspiraton to hear sth new. Thanks :)
I ja jestem Polakiem ale wolę SBB 2-4,Slovenian Girls chociaż Memento też dobre.
Every one keeps missing La Villa Stragiato. Great work anyway!
Hell, even Hemispheres deserves better than 28.
the era of 70s in prog rock is so absolutely huge . This is definitely subjective list of top 50s, but anyway great attempt , thanks.😉

Respectable list.
I’d personally have 2 as one. Probably the greatest song I’ve ever heard in my life
Same here
After this video I was listening some tracks that I never heard before (let's say I'm new in prog), and "School" from Supertramp is one of the best songs I've ever heard
Yes, but if a choice had to be made it should have been “Crime of the Century” just for the last 3 minutes of the song!
Amazing album!
New to prog you say? What do you think of these albums: Jean-Yves Labat - M. Frog, Junipher Greene - Friendship, Ton Vlasman - White Room With Disintegrating Walls, or Rick Wakeman - The Red Planet?
If you liked 'school' you'll love 'fools overture'
Listen also schooldays by Gentle Giant
Great work! I would have included Eloy and Focus
Anyone noticed the beauty of these record covers? They are stunning! A very good list, anyway, I would have added some other Italian prog groups, like Orme and Banco del Mutuo Soccorso
You have to have Awaken by Yes in the top ten. Surely. Firth of Fifth is my no. 1.
Why should he have Awaken in his top ten? Because you like it? That's funny... ;)
@@UCS0608 fair, but the title says "top 50 Prog rock songs" in general, so his comment is fair game
Very pleasantly surprised to the two Hawkwind tracks here. Those two albums criminally underrated.
Genisus, Yes, Tull, Floyd, I get...but very hard to leave out of any list or conversation would be the influence of Uriah Heep.
Super genius Thick As A Brick composition
So at the end of 1972 Sounds music paper publishes its albums of the year. Who comes at the top of the list, Argus, by Wishbone Ash. This was a massive album and commercially successful. Firmly considered progressive rock. This has to be a massive oversight.!

I always listen to Pink Floyd in order of: Shine On (parts I-IX), DSotM, Echoes.

Three... hundred?! That’s more than half of their members ever did. Zealot Gene indeed
I dont but they are my all time fav band
Great list - no Le Orme, Banco ? And how can you not have 'A Louse is not a Home' by Peter Hammill? Nevertheless a great list!
my favoruite record from 70s is welcome to the machine by pink floyd- it is just awesome, still sounds as frightening as when i first heard it back in 1975
'Dark Ages' ...my favourite Tull track!
21st Century Schiziod Man started it all, should have been somewhere in the top 50. Would also had like to seen Kansas "Song for America".
That song was released in 1969 and this list is about the 70s.

Excellent selection, diverse and in some cases obscure, some songs I haven't heard in years.
Great work.
Interesting selection...
Interesting list - from a lifelong prog fan.
Would’ve made Suppers Ready number one, but it’s your list.
Also In the Cage or Back in NYC in place of Lamb Lies Down (song not album)
So true. Supper’s Ready I would say is the greatest song of all time, and Back in NYC is definitely better than the title track.

So glad Earthrise made this list. Fantastic song.
Greenslade anyone? “Bedside manners are extra” surely merits a place in here.
Crazy to think #1 was written as a parody.
